It is time to introduce you all to Barry
the cat who adopted us... we think
he is here all the time, and makes himself totally at home sleeping on beds and laps so we think we are now his owners
For many months he used to pop over and say hello then disappear for a day or two
he was here so much that we started giving him a name as calling him cat seemed wrong
this is despite the fact that my childhood dog was called Dog
anyway we tried out a few, but Barry seemed to trump them all
but then we noticed Bazza was getting skinnier and skinnier
and despite our efforts to find an owner he appears to be a stray
He has been spending more and more time here... full time in fact
and we couldn't watch him get thinner by the minute so of course we fed him
and now he has moved in
He is a lot more handsome than this sketch indicates
turns out they are quite the challenge to paint
but he is quite lovely for a cat and appears to have a bundle of quirks
some weird phobias, the iron , spaces behind doors, and fresh ginger... yep a knob of ginger shows up and he is freaked out and tries to attack it before beating a hasty retreat
he is weirdly uncoordinated, does a great slinky impression, loves being on your lap or in your arms, drools when he purrs, which is a lot btw, and is insanely vocal... he literally yell-meows at us left right and centre, but he is training us up nicely and we seem to be communicating better now
He is not a dog... and he is no Mushu the wonder mutt, but he is a lovely addition to the clan
happy painting all...xx

omigoddess cats are hard and black cats are the hardest. finally gave it a go and after about three dozen began to get somewhere. with my insomnia it doesn't make sense that the three cats who are posing in their sleep for me while I am sitting wide awake should not be drawn! so happy he found you!
Such a lovely thing to have happen, enjoy the company. xxx
Well good job painting him up nicely. One of those names is my ex...I will let you guess...lol You're an old softy like me, I'd hate to see any animal suffer. I'm allergic to cats but have had a few on my doorstep over the years..and found home for two batches of kittens...they always seem to know a sucker. Funny they always approach me too!Smart ones I tell you! They should be taking over soon!! They probably have a few more relatives waiting in the wings until Barry and Bazza soften you up a little more too! Beware of the pussies I tell ya!!
Hugs Giggles
Cats are awesome - I love them and I am so glad that Barry has decided to move in. He must be very comfortable with you as cats tend to drool when they're happy and content with you - Lily drools over me all the time, bless her!! Barry's illustration is fab - he looks like a gorgeous ginger tom.
Unlike Nic, I'm not a cat person... But if I saw one homeless like Bazza, I'd no doubt do the same and take him in. He sounds like he has quite the personality! I never knew cats drooled - I thought that was a dog thing - this is one trait of Sherlock's that I could really do without! As soon as any food is around, we have to get the flippers out! Loving the sketch btw... I've never tried drawing a cat! :0)
Congrats on becoming new parents to Bazza! He sounds wonderful - any cat that loves to be held and drools when it purrs is purrfect! Just think of all the new stories you will have to tell with him part of the family now.
it's a wonderful sketch Tracey, and how lucky is Barry too!
Your home is now complete! I try to draw/paint cats at least once a year. I'll let you know if I'm ever successful. I quite like your Bazza.
Sounds like he has thought you all well. I'm sure I have between 5 and 10 cats regularly visiting in my garden, so I'm pretty happy I'm not a cat person. We have a one-eyed smart-cat living next door, and he has made me like him, so who knows how it will end.
Maybe because he is an orange cat- we had a dear cat we adopted that we referred to as Faithful Dog Riley as he had many dog behaviors.....wonderful cat, clearly, you all are meant to be the family he is meant to have!
What a lovely thing to have Bazza adopt you! Your picture is lovely and I'm sure having a new friend around makes your day is much happier! XO
fab cat
What a lucky cat to stop at your house and get his portrait painted!
Ah! A cat in the family. You know I am pleased. And that he has strange quirky and a loud personality--yes, I am pleased. Glad you all found each other. :)
He knew what he wanted and so he adopted you!
Cats have such personalities!
How wonderful!! He is lucky indeed to find such a fabulous home - and he will now be immortalized in ink and paint for the ages!! How many cats can make such a claim? Happy PPF!!
I've had several adoptees....cats are fussy so if they choose you it is praise indeed. Love cats love your drawing
barry (;
pretty much the best cat name ever.
