The Things We Do For Friends...

I needed to go to my happy place and paint my new mugs
after a mildly traumatic morning in the studio yesterday
I started by breaking my favourite hair band before I had even put pen to paper
which is a tragedy of epic proportions as I only have one
and I just have enough hair grown to actually get in my eyes so it is still exciting to need it
after more than 18 months of either being bald, covered in stubble, or very short hair
it is a thrilling shock to look down and have something flop into your line of vision
so I was reduced to clipping my hair back with a bulldog clippy thing from the studio
which would have been all good if it wasn't for me dropping Phants to the train station
and popping in to get an iced coffee all with the bloody bulldog clip in my hair

I followed this fashion faux pas with spilling the stupid iced coffee
all over the freshly cleaned kitchen bench
and in the process of cleaning that up I knocked the giant peppermill over
and somehow it managed to explode peppercorns all over the place
those suckers spread let me tell you
so I sorted that and then headed into the studio to attempt to tackle a self portrait
Paint Party Friday turns four this week and the theme is self portraits
now I hate drawing and painting faces at the best of times, let alone my own
so it is a testament to how awesome I think this tribe is that I even attempted this thing
and it was a challenge that drove me to three cups of tea
which on top of the half a cup of iced coffee
had me popping and whizzing like a lightning bug
which is possibly not the most conducive state to paint in
but here it bloody is
sans bulldog clip because after a time it starts to hurt like crazy

I used gouache, ink and acrylic and concentrated on this crop because it was taking forever
like it could be the 5th birthday before I finish it forever
but aside from the time it took I have to admit it was fun  to do something a bit different
not that I want to do it again any time soon
but PPF's birthday doesn't come around every day does it
and on Friday the 13th no less...

So I settled my frayed nerves and reassured myself that I am still speedy with paint
by drawing and painting up the two new mugs
and adding another layer to the latest perfume bottle painting
but the whole time I was thinking about how awesome it is to have the meet up at PPF
how many truly wonderful friends I have made,
how many times I have been inspired and supported, and just had fun
so a huge thank you to Eva and Kristin who host this wonder every week
and give us all such a fabulous place to meet up
happy birthday PPF...xx

here is Tuesday's post link in case you missed it...

Yay Yay YAY!!!!
(The self portrait, not all those mishaps ;) )
Thank you for stepping out of your comfort zone for PPF! (You would never know that you "hate drawing faces" by this fantastic self portrait - I love it!)

I'd be stuck drinking coffee all day to try and steady the frayed nerves after all those bloopers; what a day, lol. But it culminated in the high note that is a fabulous selfie, a gorgeous perfume bottle and those luscious mugs! Where did you get them Tracey?
Wishing you at least the next 24 hours mis-hap free {{Hugs}} xxx

The perfume bottle is coming along so beautifully. Love seeing you in that lovely selfie. Seems like some days are just off kilter from the start - we'll chalk it up to that and have another cup of tea in those gorgeous mugs with that teatanic - that just totally cracked me up - who thinks of these things? And of course TeaRex - I mean honestly... who wouldn't love a little dinosaur to steep up their tea every morning ? I must get to the local tea shop and see what kind of infuser I can find :)

Oh no not the peppercorns...you will be finding them for weeks to come! They have feet and scurry under the fridge until they know you're barefoot and then they burst out in dance.... Love the selfie and your bits of hair! Wonderful job on the eyes and glasses!! Love the new mugs too!

I don't often see you draw people so loved seeing your selfie, your style of drawing works so well with portraiture.

I know what you mean. I went cartoonish because it does take forever to do a piece. But I love your half selfie, makes me a little more curious about what your chin half is like. Have a great weekend.

Nice self portrait, I can see a bit of panic in your eyes from all that caffiene. Nice mugs too. beware stray peppercorns. xox

One day I must look in to the PPF thingy - I feel like I'm missing all the fun! That said, like you, I hate drawing self portraits... It's scarey looking at my self so closely - reminds me of those odd occasions where I am accidentally confronted with my Mums magnifying mirror in her bathroom, which is nothing short of traumatic! Anyway, your self portrait is brilliant! And you have a TON of hair!!! Awesome!! :0)

I feel rubbish because I totally forgot about the whole self portrait thing this week and just did my normal thing. Good on you for doing a portrait (in the style of Chad the little man whose head and nose pop over the top of the wall (here's the link in case you're wondering what the eff I'm on about! - http://www.guy-sports.com/humor/urban_myth/urban_myth_chad_kilroy.htm !)
It sounds like you had a right morning of clumsiness - I get a day or two like that every month when if I can knock something over or trip over something then I surely will!

Great self portrait! Sorry you spent the day with Murphys law. :)

LOL! I can't get the picture of you shopping with a bulldog clip in your hair! Now that is a true artist!! All the mishaps...I had days like that a little while back and spilled coffee twice in three days on my cream colored rug! What can you do. But...I don't have gorgeous artwork to show after my disasters--LOL! Love them all!! :)

Tracey, from someone who had the sort of day you described happen to her on Thursday, you have my heartiest support as we are fellows in the same boat. I won't describe my day because it doesn't quite measure up to yours. I love your self portrait. The eyes are so pretty. I love that you are getting hair growth. I know it has been a long haul. You are an inspiration.

I really like your cropped face - as long as it's not cropped IRL! Stopped eating my melon so I wouldn't spit it out while I read your column - you make me laugh a lot! I didn't know about the challenge since I wasn't around last week but will try to have something for next week.

Love the self portrait.

I have chased peppercorns around the kitchen. Probably find some more the next time I was the floor.

Next week can we expect a painting of your kitchen covered in peppercorns??

We ALL have those days now and then (atleast I´d like to think that when I have them! haha. It´s not fun thinking that you are the only person that is that totally clupsy is it.) I allways ware TWO hairrubberbands in my ponytail because of this. I would´t like any at work seing how I look like with my far too long hair hanging down round my face looking like a crazy bitch! I can imaging you running round people with your clip in the hair haha!!!!Thanks for a good laugh Trace :) Hug.

Catharina Engberg said...

WHAT in earth is clupsy???? I ment clumpsy offcourse!!

Cindy D. said...

Oh my gosh, I feel you, I have spilled peppercorns and they do tend to roll away and under things everywhere! I hope you find some new hair clips you love!

Beautiful cups and terrific job on the cropped portrait!

oh Tracey, i love everything about your self portrait! The choice of color, the angle, the expression, the background... EVERY. THING. You may not enjoy self portraits but it doesn't mean you can't do them. Holy crap. Incredible talented, girl. Love the cups too, and those gorgeous perfume bottles are amazing. So love coming here for a visit. xx

Tracey, you are brave. I avoided this week's paint party friday just because of the selfie challenge. I love PPF but i hate drawing myself.Hopefully i will join the birthday celebrations next year :) I have a metal monkey tea infuser. He hangs himself to the rim of the mugs. But your tea-rex and tea-tanic are way too cool.

Oh Tracey, I'm really worried because I thought I'd left a comment here to give you support in your hour of clumsyness but it appears I'm going doolally!
I even know what I (was going to say) said... oh my... let's move on quickly to your brilliant self-portrait.
It's amazing and totally unlike any attempt that I would make... it would be a different kind of mug shot for sure! You know the kind that the police issue after a crime?
If it makes you feel any better I've been spreading glitter about the house today (unintentionally) and let me tell you that stuff has magical powers to reach every nook and cranny of the place and last night I swiped a bottle of seaseme seed oil from a cupboard shelf onto the work surface. Let me tell you it sinks even after multiple cleansing products and applications. I love it in a stir fry but the aroma isn't one I particularly like at breakfast time.
I'm sure you're all over your trauma's by the time you receive this comment. Now I'm going to concentrate whilst I press the publish button just to make sure it gets to you.
Stay safe and Muffy sends you lots of smelly doggie breath kisses ^..^
I really need to have a word with her
xoxo
