A Crabby Week ...

This week it has been crazy hot and humid
that awful paper never drying humid
which has played havoc with my current obsession with all things crustacean related
but I got in nice and early this morning and finally got this crab out of my head
which is quite a line to write isn't it
now I have images of crabs running around up there
maybe they can chase out the hamsters that make my brain spin a mad amount

I have no clue where the crabs and crustacean thoughts came from
I am not a huge lover of them, though Sinus would exist on nothing else given the chance
and we had a bad experience with a rogue crab appearing out of nowhere
in our house when we lived in Florida
which resulted in much squealing and jumping on chairs
it was eventually rounded up and chased back into the estuary we lived on
but it was quite the thing
we also had rogue coconuts appear in our car space regularly
but that is a whole other story

For the last week or so I have been doing a series of sketches in one of my books
mind you I chose the one I hate the most as it sort of absorbs the paint
and the colours are always more muted than I like
but despite being annoyed every time I use it, I continue to paint and draw in it
no clue why except that now it has so many in there that i feel the need to fill it

So the two crabs arrived first
then the prawn turned up on a page
quickly followed by another crab
which is not my favourite sketch I must say
it looks mildly menacing
but it didn't stop me jumping in and doing the large one
which I love

I used 640 gr hot pressed paper to combat the humidity
and I do love working larger
so it was fun from beginning to end
and there is one part I am really loving
see the legs in this part... loving them

I am thinking that i may have this crustacean obsession put to bed for the minute
although I am starting to think lobsters
so maybe not quite yet
happy painting all...xx

Oh, these crustaceans are awesome! But, I especially love that big crab!

In real life they do look a bit menacing...and a bit alien...the way they scoot about on the sand...and with that big claw. Yours look truly amazing, though! I like them way better than the real thing--LOL! A lobster...hummm...now what would you do with a lobster? You know how I love red...but I know you'd add other cool colors. I really, really hope you decide to do a lobster. ;) Stay cool down there!

Get out!!! LOVE the crabs - such gorgeous colors you used - the hues don't look muted at all. I would eat Snow Crab every day if I could. I got really adept at cracking them too so I can eat them at a pretty rapid clip - usually if we are eating them with other people I crack theirs out for them - I hate watching people mutilating their food. Never encountered any crabs in our yard when we lived in Florida though. . . but my mom has crawfish in her yard here in KY.

Love your story.I am still chuckling about it.i personally prefer Maryland blue crab. Maybe your picture is about that considering your choice of colors.

...and now I have images in my head of you tucking a crab in with a goodnight kiss!
I love your art Tracey, always.

And I have finally taken a pic of my mug (the one I have a cuppa in, not the one I drink it with), so going at this rate you should expect an email from me sometime before easter with the actual image..
Hugs, jane xx

I'm totally enamored of your crustacean sketches. The blue is incredible! I can't wait to see if you continue with lobster.
Happy PPF!

Great illustrations Tracey i don't think I've ever seen a blue crab before. I have a vision if you jumping up on a chair like the lady in the room and Jerry cartoons everyone she saw the mouse only in your case it was bizarrely a crab! !

I had a crabby day yesterday but nothing like this... I was just a little snappy for some reason. It seems fitting that I now have this gorgeous crustacean to have the final say. It's the business!!!! Love it! ;)

Yes do a lobster!! I have a great crab photo I took back in the summer. I can send it to you and he can be your model (the photo, not the crab. The crab was already dead when I took the photo so the stink by now would be unimaginable!)

I just want to jump into that page and eat that seafood right up!! I will continuing to admire that gorgeous blue one, but me thinks he may have the plague as I have NEVER seen one that color and suspect he is holding his breath to turn that blue!! The others however look expensively familiar, so throw them on the barbie will ya...and I'll be right over!! Love them... have them rarely as Cupcake hates the smell of any fish darn it!! Ask me what I like to order when I'm out...oh yes...you are right!!

Your crustacean frenzy is going great! I love the vivid colors, Tracey. They make me feel happy even though I don't really like that sort of food. I like the taste, but getting to the meat is so hard and I always end up with shell in my mouth.

Outstanding! Love those crabby paintings. There is something about crabs that is fun to paint whether blue, or red and orange or purple like the ones we have here. These are brilliant. M.x

640 g paper is amazingly strong! I've only tried to paint on a sample once, that is some sturdy paper for sure! :-)
I think your crab-collection looks wonderful, but I wouldn't eat them if you put any crabs in my food!
I have a photo of Swedish lake-crabs if you need any reference ;-)

Happy PPF!

Crabs and humidity and everything dipping in sweat yay it's a good old Aussie summer and you've captured the essence of both beautifully Tracey...
In Melbourne we're dripping too but under umbrellas not a crustacean in sight only soccer and tennis balls...
Happy Painting!

No doubt about it, that crab is gorgeous! I must say I never thought I'd say that...

Of course I love them all, but the first one is my favorite. I love the blue and green colors. When you decide to clean out your studio again to make room for new paintings, I want to be the first on the list to buy it. Can't wait to see your lobsters. :-)

I happen to be a huge crustacean fan... I could quite happily give up meat... I eat almost no meat now, but I would find it very hard to give up shellfish! I LOVE your series of crabs, prawns and lobsters! They are right up my avenue! :0)
