Some Days...

Some days everything conspires to make you smile
I started the day with finally finishing this boot drawing
which was homework from Andrea Joseph's lesson for Sketchbook Skool
it was done with a Pilot medium ballpoint pen and was actually quite fun
even if it was crazy time consuming
and required me to take the boot with me from room to room as I chased the good light
I love the result and may even head down this style of drawing again
there is quite the sense of achievement in finishing something like this

I was feeling pretty pleased with myself on finishing the boot
so I made another cuppa and opened the paper
and the headline at the top of the page that I opened to
pilot lands plane after losing arm.... well something like that
turns out a pilot had a prosthetic arm and it fell off during landing
which made me giggle endlessly which is probably inappropriate
but I had visions of what it was like in the cockpit as all this was going down
plus it also reminded me of the prosthetic leg incident of many years ago

one of my flatmates from way back when, who shall remain nameless
was friends with a bloke with a prosthetic leg
he would come and stay for the weekend sometimes
and after one particular night out on the town
I was woken by my flatmate looking under my bed in an attempt to see if the leg was there
it seems that at some stage during the night he had misplaced it
and after searching the flat and not finding it
we ended up having to visit the various drinking holes they had frequented until we found it
I still have fond memories of being able to walk into a bar
and asking if someone had handed in a leg the night before
my life was awesome sometimes

But wait there is more
the morning got better because I saw a dog walk into a lightpole
he hit it with pace too and did that double take and head shake like in the cartoons
I had been watching his owner share his pastry with him while they were standing at the crosswalk and I was in the car waiting on the lights
the dog couldn't take his eyes off that pastry as he trotted along when they started to cross
so much so that he smacked right into the lamp post on the other side of the road
the owner gave him the rest of the pastry to help him recover from the trauma
and it had me giggling all the way home

talk about a great start to the day right
I can barely wait for what other shenanigans the day is going to serve up
happy painting all...xx

Great stories...and gorgeous drawing!...seems like there should be a classic joke punch line about walking into a bar and asking for a leg...? :)

It must be a Southern Hemisphere thing...snails in the post box! That boot must have taken HOURS with all that cross hatching. Makes me think of the Helen Shapiro song: "Those boots are made for Walking and that's just what they'll do..." Great job and you should put it up somewhere to be admired for a while. The dog story had me in stitches and I don't know how you managed to drive home while laughing so hard!

Tracy, I thought this boot drawing was over the top brilliant in SBS, so I'm telling you again! Brilliant! Love seeing its various facets in these out crops! Funny stories too!

I love how you've drawn the boot across 2 pages-its really good and quite different from your normal vibrant watercolors.
That leg story is hilarious-did he ever find it? !
Aw poor wee dog-glad he got the pastry to get over his trauma!

It's always the things that we really shouldn't laugh at, that make us laugh the most! That's my chuckle for the day, hehe!
LOVE the boot!! It does look like it must've taken some patience. I was looking through some of my old sketches from the 75 day sketch challenge the other day. I did that a couple of years ago. They are all plain pen sketches but I forgot how much fun it was to do! I think I'll do it again some time. Nothing quite so painstaking as your boot though! ;0)

This boot is just amazing. You could always join the local cobbler's and sit and draw smelly old boots all day - if you had nothing else to do!
Happy PPF to you dear heart.

Sounds to me like you live your life in a comic book Tracey....and there's lots to be said in favour of that.

Fantastic drawing...can't help singing "these boots are made for walking";).

Brilliant Booty Trace ;D
I've decided your posts should come with a hazard warning though! Why? Because very often I nearly choke on my cuppa whilst reading them. Snorting tea all over my laptop and potentially could be electrocuted or falling off my chair laughing to name but a few.
But I don't think you can beat a good shenanigan, although someone may be laughing at my unfortunate trip (literally) along the high street this morning... over nothing as far as I could tell. I never looked back but recovered and carried on like nothing had happened. The fact that the traffic lights were on red and the rush hour traffic stationary and in no rush to go anywhere didn't bother me (yeah right).
Well, as long as I can make someone smile I suppose :) Although I would rather have not scuffed my toe in the process!
As you know I love anything you draw/paint, but I would love to see more of this style. It's incredible.
I hope the day carries on being fun for you and enjoy your weekend whilst I try to not trip! xoxo

You have a wicked sense of humor, my dear friend - LOL! I love how immortalize Phoebe's boot, and the way you connected the title to the shoelaces was brilliant. Happy PPF and blessings!

Thank you for the first smiles of my day. I really think you could write a book and illustrate it. You are the best storyteller. Are you this funny all day long?

Your boot is fantastic.

haha what a fun day! You remind me of "Jim" from The Office. Do you know that show? Jim would always get a kick out of all the shenanigans going on in the office. The more odd and awkward the happier he was! Love your boot..really great lines and soft blending. LOVE IT!!

Happy Paint Party Friday!

Well I think Nancy Sinatra would definitely approve of these boots....she'd walk away with them for sure. Fabulous work and I have to tell you I could only write this after I finished rolling all over the floor laughing at the poor dog and then the wooden legg story. You crack me up!! thanks so much for the laughs. Have a good weekend!

I love the leg story! How many can share a tale like that? Your boot drawing is magnificent - so much depth and shape with simply pen and paper. Wonderful! Happy PPF!

Fabulous boot! Now I want to see a rendition of those white patent leather go-go numbers that Nancy wore when she sang that infamous boot song :)
I'm loving this side of your art that is emerging with the sketchbook school. You have such patience my dear, just what is needed to see the finer details. M.x

I once saw a dog trip while running up some stairs and he hit his jaw on the step and his teeth clanked together. It was already funny but then my friend drolly commented, "That's why they call them dumb animals." I guffawed!

Your boot is amazing!! The cross-hatching is breathtaking - WOW!!

Very very awesome drawing Tracey! Love the stories too, had me giggling and trying to explain to Wee Man about prosthetics.........he's convinced I was just joking :D
We have been away to Edinburgh for a few days and between that and laptop issues, I haven't been around very much, so lots to catch up with. My blackberry painting is only half done because the photo is on my laptop *sigh*. Anyhoo, it's fixed (whispering that word), so hopefully we will be able to do some catching up and add new blog posts. Love n hugs xoxo

This boot is indescribable and breathtaking. You must have spent more than one hundred hours with it. But if you have remembered all these funny stories all the time while you were drawing you must have had a really good time as well ;) The story of the leg and the dog ... it's indescribable too :) Unfortunately my English is not good enough to describe the fun I had while reading this!

That's some seriously gorgeous cross/hatching going on there! Love it.
