This week I have been thinking about all sorts of changes that are cropping up
Some things are getting back to a more normal rhythm
like managing to blog twice in a week for the first time in many, many months
and being gloriously haphazard at housekeeping
but there have been some significant changes as well...
After twelve years of getting up at 5 am-ish for Phantom to go to school
I am embracing the life of the mother of a university student
and not getting up until at least 6.30am
on some mornings 7 am
Sounds mean spirited but there is something truly delicious about still being tucked up in bed
and listening to the neighbours hustling their little boys into the car to get them off for the day
yes they have an early start, and I feel moments of pity for their plight
but then I snuggle back in and remember that I did it for all those years
scalding my fingers on nuclear toast,
being sneezed on by the mutt, which is worse at 5 am let me tell you
and generally cursing a world that requires you to be putting together lunch boxes
at a time when your eyes can barely open.... Uni is sooooo much better
This getting up later caper has led to some changes for the mutt
and I have been amazed that our middle aged dog
who has always been lazy as sin and dumb as a bucket of rice
is suddenly showing an aptitude for new tricks
Well not tricks so much as turning into a right scallywag
He has finally discovered that he can sniff at and try to get into his feed packet thing
It is in the same place it has been for ten years but he has only just noticed it
of course he hasn't twigged that the treats are on the shelf just above
and infinitely easier to get into so I don't think he is ready for doggy Mensa just yet...
He has also been trying to scam a second breakfast by sitting at the fridge door and looking longingly at me when I get up
He got me once and I muttered and mumbled through making it up for him
cursing Sinus under my breath for forgetting our poor loveable furball
After feeding him I sent off a strongly worded text to Sinus regarding his doggy parenting skills
The reply to this text...
You were played
Brilliant.... Who knew he had the brain power..... I was almost proud of the scally
He hasn't managed to scam me again but that hasn't stopped him from trying every single day
We also are the proud owners of a new lounge, or sofa and chairs...
Very exciting and required after the last year
where I have not been vigilant regarding stain removal regarding the old lounge
and it would appear that me sitting on it with indian ink on my butt
was the last straw in its ability to look presentable
so a new un-ink butted lounge has been delivered and it is all sorts of wonderful
It is still at that stage of newness whereby I get a shock every time I walk down the stairs
it is a slightly different configuration and depth from the last one
and Mushu hasn't quite timed his jumping yet
Which is leading to much hilarity as he has the occasional bounce off the front of it
Before you feel poorly for him
let me tell you he is currently continuing his licking project
which requires him to systematically lick every millimetre of every surface in the house and a new lounge requires quite the commitment to his project
It is gross but luckily after the first lick or two it is a dry lick... Still weird to watch though...
The final change is that Sinus has put up some shelves and storage baskets in the studio
Which means I now have sketchbooks and paints to hand
And a place for unfinished sketches and scraps of paper with ideas have a home
So I managed to finish some things off this week
Hence the slightly mixed bag of paintings in this post
I actually had even more fun painting the Chanel bottle than I did the Dior one
thinking I should do a whole series
they would make great post cards I think, or prints... they would be great prints
Even more exciting is that the eyeball that has resided on my desk since this time last year is now at eye level
And I get to eyeball the eyeball....

Great post Trace and Mushu's antics certainly made me smile. Love your great paintings and glad you are feeling a lot better. Sending you hugs, Annette x

sounds like things are getting back to normal in your house, lol, enjoy that few extra hours of sleep, before you know it you will have everyday to sleep in, I never thought the day would come but when our three finally were out and on their own I tried to remember the days I longed for peace an quiet, its highly over rated,
OK, I will never proclaim to having a third of your wit, your energy, your talent, etc., etc. BUT, eyeball to eyeball I ADORE you Tracey!!
Embrace and enjoy that extra time in bed - you deserve it! So glad to see you feel like painting again. The Chanel bottle is terrific!
It is so great to read about your mutt and your new lounge and how you enjoy your new rithm... I love the way you paint with words... at least as beautiful as the perfume bottles and your teacups and all the rest of 'm...
If I only would have the part of talent that is in your thumb I would already be so happy... <3
The mugs are gorgeous and I'm sure that tea tastes fabulous in them. The Channel bottle is wonderful and I totally agree that you must do a series. You may need to put a ban on red wine and india ink around the new furnishings. We had a dog once that after every meal she would wipe her face along the front edges of all of the sofas and chairs in the living room. Mushu's licking the surfaces sounds like a better thing. New shelves - I'm jealous! xo.M
Oh how I would love some new (or any) shelves! The perfume bottle is gorgeous ... a series would be lovely!
It's so great to see that you are actually feeling like your old self. The post was great and I love hearing all about the poor mutt and his misadventures. The art is fabulous and I'm super envious of the new shelves. I need more space :)
I bet tea tastes extra good in those cups! But that eyeball is just weird... so weird that I think I need one...
So glad you are getting back to your old self. I remember when I did not get up with my boys at all anymore...and I was weirdly guilt ridden at first- but I got over it! Ha! Continue prayers for you. Totally adore the cups!

Just beautiful artwork....Glad you get to enjoy a new sofa! There must be a wonderful feeling of renewal...at least it sounds like it! Enjoy the new shelves, new couch, new hours of sleep and the old crazy dog...lol
Hugs Giggles
We're about to become empty nesters, with my youngest moving in with her oldest daughter in college. I'm sure it'll be an adjustment, but I'll still have to get up at the same time. I love the painting of your teacups, but the way. Have a blessed week my friend!
It sounds like your getting into a new groove with Phantom away at school. And the remaining "kid" is trying to get away with all kinds of things. Oh my, your stories of your doggie ("dumb as a bucket of rice") had me laughing.
Have a fabulous weekend, Tracey!
Hi Tracey. Glad you are now getting to sleep in. We all deserve extra sleep. Glad to hear you about all the things that are happening and good to know your are posting more. Regards!

Love the teacups painting! It's beautiful! #ppf
Love the teacups, but I wouldn't want that eyeball leering at me! Valerie
I always love your work, but I am particularly taken with all of the work you shared in this post. Good luck with all the changes! Happy PPF!
I've been getting up at 5.20 for over 6 years when I still had to commute 4 hours every day for my old job, and after almost a year, getting up at 6.10 still feels like having a lie in. Your changes sound awesome, as are your paintings. I especially love the one with the black frame around the edge of the page.
Is that a box of Blackwing pencils on your shelf? Have you tried them? I read about them, and have thought about getting some to try out, but they're not so easy to get here, and expensive, so I haven't yet. But I'd love to know if it would be worth it.
Relish your mornings now, you deserve to relax and lie in bed after so many years of early morns! I love those cups, your cups have always been a huge favourite, these are delightful!
Yesterday was one of those good side/bad side moments. The good thing was that I caught the cat before he went in the house and near any soft furnishings. The bad side was that he still has something unmentionable dripping from his bottom down his very fluffy back legs which required immediate removal. He sulked the rest of the day and cried like crazy during the washing procedure but interestingly never once tried to bite or scratch me. I think he knew I was trying to help!
Just thought I'd share that...
You are a very good and fun writer on top of being a superb artist. Your post today brought back some forgotten memories. I once read a report, a heavy one, called Eyeball to eyeball with the Bongo Bongo. It was actually the final report for a master degree in some sort of social welfare work. Very serious stuff but oh so humorous as well.
Love your cups, and that dog sounds like a rare one.
LOVE your sketches, as always! Happy PPF - Irma
Definitely enjoy well deserved extra time in bed! Your illustrations are absolutely awesome, Tracey. Thank you for sharing!

you always make me smile!
cheers, dana
Pups are no dummies, anything to get fed again....LOl. Love the colorful cups. Happy playing in the studio. xox
I saw the teacups and thought "she's back to "normal" (whatever that is). Loved Mushu stories. What a dog! (Doggie Mensa -- still giggling). Enjoy those extra hours in bed ... no one deserves them more.

Well that puts paid to you sitting on the new stuff...if you are like me there is always the chance that you could have something on your posterior or other body part that could impart its colour onto the new surface...As for your non mensa dog...that made me laugh!
Tracey I love how you write. Really wonderful! New changes are wonderful!
I am so happy to hear you are feeling more yourself. Yes sleeping in is a joy. What would we do without our pets? As always your art inspires me. Lovely stacked cups.
Have a lazy happy weekend

Your teacups are so wonderful! I love the brightness of your artwork. And lucky you with the extra sleeping. I treasure an extra few minutes in bed in the morning. It's the best :)
As always your blog post is wonderfully entertaining. Love your paintings too :-)
Lovely post and love your teacups a lot. Enjoy your weekend!
Your posts, and drawings, always get my day off to a good start...smiling. Am waiting for a collection of these posts to be published...?
I love his work, I follow in google+ and always surprising ease to paint everyday things clearly but with beauty, those cups are beautiful.
Saludos
I totally love those teacups. I should do some more teacups. Need more days in the week! Hooray for sleeping in! (Even a little.)Not sure I could handle the eyeball lol.
Lovely paintings. Love the teacups.
Delightful!! I love seeing that your blog header is a framed piece in your studio!
Okay, so I'm more than just a little jealous that you get to sleep in now and I've still got years of early mornings, lunch makings and pickups ahead but seeing that you wear the same perfume as me I'll forgive you this time. Love your pic of the Chanel bottle, I can almost smell it from here, oh wait, I'm wearing it (he he). Your teacups are superb as always.
Luv Von.
I guess compared to 5 am 6.30 seems a luxury. But it still feels very early to me ... Love love love those colourful cups ....
Love it! It sounds you're getting back to normal a little bit, which is fantastic. As are, of course, your paintings! Love them. :)
Enjoyable read, Tracey! Congrats on the new furniture. If I had known about India ink butt blots I would have tried that years ago. My living room sofa is older than most bloggers. Really! My step granddaughter said she wants it because it is stripes. I love the painting in the journal of the colander but of course, your cups are gorgeous, as always.
Enjoy a few luxurious lie ins! I guess I am lucky because my kids' school is around the corner so I don't get up until 7. I love the Chanel No 5 Illustration ....it is my favorite perfume. Happy PPF
What a fun post about all your changes and the various furry family members. You made me laugh! And, of course, your little paintings are just wonderful! I recognize the cups in the first painting (I have two of them myself) and I love the Chanel painting. Fun!! xoxo Silke
First of all I love all the artwork! Glad you are able to sleep in, but had to laugh at Mushu finagling two breakfasts--LOL!
New furniture is always exciting--even if a bit jolting when you first see it every day. That will wear off...and goofy Mushy will stop licking it one day--LOL!
I love the new shelf! Not sure why you like the eyeball, but to each his (or her) own. I like the idea of the bottle series. Hope you had a wonderful weekend! :):)
Hehe... you must be one of the few bloggers that can hold my attention all the way through such an epic post! So funny! And SO glad you are fully back in the swing of things, hurrah!! I miss my twice weekly entertainment!
