Doolally Narcolepsy.....

I have a problem
and it isn't that people don't use the term doolally enough
although I truly believe with all my heart that it should be used more
I mean come on.... it is a doozy of a word is it not....
as is doozy... doozy is a bobby dazzler of a word....
ok... bobby dazzler has been used way too much
Sinus has been using that one for twenty years and it has never been a favourite

the problem is also NOT that I have had a week of falling asleep constantly
we are talking in like a second
one minute eyes open and conversing
next snoring like a trucker and drooling with abandon
in fact there was a rather unfortunate moment for poor Phantom
arriving at the car when I had gone to collect her at the train station
and she found me passed out like a light with the dog eyeing off my drool
I swear I had seen her get off the train because I had pointed her out to the mutt
but by the time she had crossed the overpass and made her way to the car... snoring
she said if it wasnt for the god awful din she might have thought the worst
so why is this not a problem....
well just picture being asked to watch the football with Sinus, or discuss the satirical underpinnings of Swift, or even make dinner... a few well placed snores and it all goes away
I am milking this temporary narcolepsy for all I can

The problem may, in fact, be that bloody Anthropologie now ships to Australia
not a problem you may think
but consider how much I like tea cups, and mugs
especially cool patterned ones like these I have painted
and don't get me started on how hard it is to get great table linens in Australia
places like that are my crack... I go all doolally at the mere thought
and I don't have to consider selling a lung to pay shipping
I may have placed an order already....and it may already be on its way
just a small test order
you know to see that it arrives in a timely manner and things like tea cups can arrive intact
poor poor credit card.... I sense a busy time ahead for it

So I am admitting a problem up front in an attempt to shame myself
also to stop myself going looking for other fabulous places that will now ship down under
and am distracting myself with some vegetable paintings
looking a bit rough at this stage
but they all start out this way
happy painting all...xx

Send me some of your narcolepsy and I'll send you some insomnia. Oh I hear you on the pretty teacups and tablecloths. Can't get decent teacups here in France. :(

First off scrabbler that I am have NEVER seen the word doolally....(temporarily deranged or feeble minded.lol)Hoping they let me use it on the board!!

When I first got sick I fell asleep mid sentence as a woman was speaking to me... it was the oddest thing ever. Embrace it, milk it, heal up!!! I also have a mug fetish....I can't resist when I see ones I love!!So I have to support you there!! Enjoy each cuppa....Also have they launched Oprahs chai tea there at Starbucks yet??.OH MY GOODNESS...NEW favorite tea my friend....check it out if you like chai...it's a wonderful blend and took her a year to perfect. Enjoy!

Love your vegetable paintings - your sketchbook looks a good one to work in. There's a vicious rumour here that I snore! (personally I don't believe it).

Often used to hear that word doolally. My Grandma used the term pixilated which I love (away with the fairies) and lets face it we often are.......loving the brilliant sketches as always. Happy PPF, Annette x

Ohh I just love that second tea cup. Actually I had wanted to order just that one, together with a couple of others, I had seen in their web shop, but when I wanted to place my order a few days later, all the ones I wanted had disappeared. Maybe they're back again now, will have to take a look.. Fabulous paintings!

Love the teacups, I have a fetish for vintage teacups and just recently developed another one for vintage tablecloths, I walked out of a local op shop yesterday with three! We cant get decent tablecloths here in kiwiland too, maybe that's why I went vintage? Any ways I just have to say I haven't heard the word doolally for yonks.

Gorgeous art as always, and of course I do enjoy your banter every time. I love words, my favourite at the moment is: discombobulated, which is how I feel lately.
Happy PPF to you and I say: enjoy your catnaps (or dognaps.) xx

I went doolally when I pressed that link. Did you see the dinner plates, so gorgeous. Love your cup paintings and your veggies look fab even at the rough stage.
Hope you can stay awake to paint.

Tracey, your teacups are just fabulous. So beautiful. And the tomatoes. Wow! I am having the opposite problem. I can't stay asleep. After 3 to 5 hours I will wake up and not be able to get back to sleep. Maddening.

oh how I love the freedom and abandom with your work, and not to worry about the other problem, theres a twelve step program for everything, I'm sure, lol, besides you deserve some more pampering, (thats another word we don't hear much lol),

never heard the word doolally before now and I love words like this so I'll use it today-and as usual hubby will look at me and make me get the dictionary out to prove it's a word(as I recently had to do for the word namby-pamby). Fabulous vegetable illustrations Tracey!

Those tea cups are so gorgeous! Just beautiful! And the tomatoes look delicious enough to eat :)

Doolally is my middle name Trace!
Now why have you popped that link in...I'm already fighting an urge to purchase some cute, gorgeous, delicate, china mugs this week. I'm not over it yet...I know where they live!!!
Fabulous paintings as usual even if you keep nodding off ;D
I knew you were so talented...you can even paint with your eyes closed. AMAZING.
You milk it girl...we're all behind you ;D

So I admit it - I have some issues with online buying myself!!!! LOL Mostly when there is free shipping for $46 at Jerry's Artarama or some such place. And when there is a great sale and a low free shipping amount - I am not sure how my hands don't slip off my drool covered keyboard. Love your sketches - and doolally is a fabulous dazzledy word (ok -so I made up dazzledy)

MeOfCourse said...

Love your teacups and the veggies are looking very good.. They are just dazzlelicious!

Well, it is Boston on Newbury St, 02116, I have several locations to pick from. Love to go and window shop. Have never purchased much there.
Wish I could send you the Inventory. So, you could share with everyone.

Have a wonderful day and watch the Cat Napping!

Love the tomatoes!!!

Love your veggie paintings! I always used 'doolally' in the context of bonkers, mad, soft in the head but I am from the UK....in Australia maybe they use it like I am crazy about these plates!! I can't use this fabbo word here in the USA as no one would understand me and they would say 'there goes that nutty English girl with her strane words again'....Happy PPF! Emma

JoyCorcoran said...

Maybe it's doolalepsy? But I see it's made you a very good painter -- love these. Perhaps you're becoming one of those divine artists channeling tea cups and veggies for your art while you sleep. I hope you get your wakefulness back but your paintings are doolalicious.

I think we're all a little doolally over your teacups and tomatoes! :D

I read this hours ago, on the bus, travelling out to lunch with my wee man who has a long weekend off school. We like to have adventures whenever possible. I think I embarrassed myself more than once by chuckling to myself as I read and then cursing as I couldn't leave a comment. Grrr, no idea why. No one would have thought I was chuckling with the wee fella as he prefers to sit on his own, so I was on my own, chuckling to myself. Thanks Tracey :/ lol
Your cups are of course very gorgeous indeedy and I 'heart' your tomatoes!
I do have to say, Noooooo!! for putting me onto Anthropologie! OMGoodness their stuff is delicious! I want an egg crate. And I mean want want want! Talk about adorable! And - yes- the teacups are WoW! I think I may have to treat myself on behalf of hubby for our silver wedding anniversary tomorrow. Well, I know he's bought me something, but I bet I can't enjoy a luscious cup of Earl Grey from it, lol. (I will report later exactly what it is, K?)
Now, onto Doolally; I use that word, I do admit. I also say, 'my giddy aunt' as does my near 7 year old wee man, haha.
Have a wondrous weekend Tracey :o) xx

Okay you are cracking me up again.....After working on the new house I am ready for a good snore too. Anthropologie is like crack for the visually stimulated, sort of like Pinterest except you can get the stuff. I feel that way about clothes from Gudrun Sodjen, although the tax is so high I rarely order....Lovely cups, so pretty....and blue, hmmmm, wonderful. xox

Jessica Sporn said...

oh I think after the year you've had, you should receive all the pretty things your heart desires. Yes - Anthropologie has pretty things - especially their tableware. Lovely illustrations as always, and the writing -- priceless.

Jaz Higgins said...

Oh! I've heard great things about Anthropologie. My bank balance may not like this... :)

We have an Anthropoligie in Charlotte, and I love to browse there, but we also have a little antique shop with a whole section of tea cups! It's even better! Love your post and adorable painting!

Anthropologie is a very dangerous place. I do love their mugs and teacups. Wonderful to see you painting and painting teacups!!!!!!

I went directly over to the Anthropologie catalogue yesterday without commenting :) I love the store and can hardly contain myself or my card...and fortunately there is a store within driving distance. I love your teacups, the angle from which you painted them and the colors. The vibrant tomatoes as well. When I was in college I fell asleep anywhere even standing up at a party. I was a ball of fun. That only lasted a few years.

I have never heard the terms doolally or bobby dazzler (did I even get those right?).

You obviously need a lot of healing sleep after all you've been through. If I push myself too much I get like that with the fibro's chronic fatigue where if I stop moving and sit down I can doze right off. Been quite a while since that has happened since I have been able to self-regulate my activity. But I remember it well. ;)

Love the teacups! I will have to go snoop at the website. Hey--you deserve some pretty cups, lady!! :) :)

My super fab. Word that the family used to tease me about: bigigity! I've got them all using it now. When your upset or nervous or uncomfortable, you're bigigity!

Great cups and veggies. We have anthropology here in Portland oregon. I haven't investigated that store. Now I will!
Happy paint part Friday!

Am LOVING your latest tea-cups! And Doo-lally is a word I hear almost everyday - usually because that's what a lot of people say I am, haha! I have never heard of anthropologie so no idea about one of those... Must Google it!

I must learn to speak Australian. Doolally and bobby dazzler are quite fun...the most exotic terms I use are 'wonky' and 'Holy .....(fill in the blank here) Batman!' Lovely cups...good luck with your shipment!

I was reading this post but then, mysteriously ended up over at Anthropologie...geez, how did that happen?? It was like my keyboard had a mind of its own! lol

I adore your artwork....so inspiring! Falling asleep constantly is something my 30 year old son does A LOT!! In his case, I'd say it's his night-owl habits chatting with friends online into the wee hours and then getting up by 7 the next morning.

It sounds like you need a break, dear one. xx

Darnell J Knauss said...

Ah, you are my inspiration, Trace! I am actually taking a watercolor online class; just minor level stuff for card making, but I aspire as I stare at your work for ages! thank you, too, for doolally which I shall steal from you! Have fun shopping!! Hugs, Darnell

see you there! said...

There is an Anthro store on my daily morning walking route. Fortunately I get out there early enough that the doors aren't open. The do great window decorating though.

Your cups are great.
