I had thought I would write a witty post this week
but kept coming up dry
I tried coming up with a post with all sorts of eggcelent puns
seeing as I painted eggs in a carton
but my brain was fried or scrambled or something and it was just too tough a shell to crack
and yes there is only ten in the carton rather than the normal twelve
but I started drawing it and started a bit big and ran out of paper so we are two eggs short
it has been a bit of a two eggs short type of day it turns out ...
This is my desk earlier
I decided to lay out some of the unfinished work to choose what to finish off
and then I ran out of desk
this isn't even counting the unfinished work in my sketchbooks
of which I have 6 going at the moment... yes you read that right
and we won't discuss the 5 unfinished canvases, the Documented Life Project journal
the 4 outlines of tea cups I have drawn up and waiting for paint
for the Cuppa With Friends project
or the fifty squillion emails I owe
I have tipped over into truly scary territory in the unfinished stakes
and yes that is a mug with George Clooney on it holding some pens
cool right... his mug even looks good on a mug
I should blame the unfinished on that distracting me perhaps
bloody George stopping me from working by gazing at me all gorgeous like
So faced with this table full of unfinished do I get in and finish something off
no sirree ... I go into the kitchen to make a cuppa to focus the brain
which is an unmitigated disaster because I get distracted
and I draw up some kitchen utensils and add a bit of colour to them
I followed this with another drawing of a few more utensils which I didn't finish
so not only did I not lessen my unfinished pile
I actually added to it
at which point I decided to abandon any thoughts of making headway on the pile of drawings
and cruised over to Facebook to distract myself
and remembered that my nephew and his partners had their big opening day for Eskimoyo
which has to be the coolest and yummiest fro yo store in all of Brisvegas
and everyone should pop in when they are in town and indulge in the yumminess
which is of course a shameless attempt at garnering a free tub when we call in
but even if I come up two eggs short on the freebie
I am still insanely proud of him... pretty cool at the tender age of 20
or is it 21... dear god I am a shocking aunt!!!!

the array of colorful work finished or not is a beautiful sight, you have such great sketching skills, congratulations on the frozen yogurt adventures for your nephew;s, sounds great and I love the name, actually I know a few Eskimo's, I went to school with one Eskimo girl called Fanny Fryingpan, ( and you could never make that name up), have a great weekend!!
Fanny Fryingpan... that needs to be a flavor:-) Well, unfinished or not, at least you are in the studio penning things down... you may be more productive if you just turn that mug around;-) However, you have not lost your touch! You have the most amazing ability to make flat images take shape. Excellent depth and perspective- those eggs are coming right off the page... and I needed some for breakfast anyway!

Your work mesmerizes me even if it's a 10er carton of eggs and some kitchen utensils! (And I love your witty puns!) They look so REAL!! I think they make all sizes of cartons for different sizes of families. Or, well, they should. Perhaps you could pass that idea on to that brilliant nephew of yours as his next little adventure! I wish him all the best with his froyo biz and wish I lived where he was!!
So thank you for the beautiful art! I would buy your work, even unfinished. Don't all famous artists have their "unfinished" pieces? See, just never mind about them then. You can start fresh whenever you bloody feel like it, no matter how many are there unfinished. Refuse to listen to their beckoning. You are not their mistress. Big hugs of strength! Darnell

Well Tracey you've been a lot more productive than me this week. I like that you have so many works in progress as you have a great choice of what to work at on any given day. I should maybe try that.

Fabulous drawings as usual Tracey!! I love how your desk looks with all those pages of partially finished drawings-that's a lot of art. I like that you have it all in front of you and you can just go with whatever piece grabs you at that moment. Best of luck to your nephew with the treat shop-sounds like a winner!

I love your desk... It's a tea of potential... Every time I see your work I wish I lived near you so I could take private lessons from you in exchange for doing your laundry...I'm not afraid of piles of laundry. :) Drawing on the other hand is very scary too me. Your eggs are wonderful.. and instead of two egg short you could think that you have enough to make at least three cakes and have an extra.

Your eggs look great, Tracey. No matter that it is a 10 egg carton not a 12. Maybe you will even encourage egg people to start having 10, not 12 to a carton. I know I end up throwing out a few because we do not eat that many eggs and they run out of time. I always love seeing your work. I hope you will finish the pineapple drawing and make it a painting.

I must admit that my first thought on seeing the title was it was something along the lines of "a sandwich short of a picnic" or "a stubby short of a six pack".

Well I can think of something far worse than having lots of unfinished work and that is having lots of work that you haven't even started!!! I am envious of your pile! But I think I would have to turn George around to face the other direction. He would distract me too! I hadn't noticed the two missing eggs until you mentioned it. And even if I had I would have assumed it was an Australian thing! Loving the eggs! Loving the utensils and I LOVE the photo! Am entirely nosy and enjoy seeing your space and the things in it. I notice you have watercolours and Golden Acrylics... Do you use both in your drawings? Btw... I have lost one of my keyboard buttons so will have to end with a blind smiley 0)

It's better to have lots of projects going than be doing nothing at all, in my book. They're easy to go back to when you are feeling right about them. I like to think of it as inspiration overflow coming so fast you don't have time to finish everything--LOL! ;)

As usual, great sketches and paintings. While you may see a stack of unfinished projects, I see a stack of practice - practice drawing such an amazing range of subjects! They always say if you want to get better at drawing, do it more.....and so you did! That's yet another thing I can learn from you....just keep drawing; add color when/if you get around to it. AND, the more you sketch and draw, the more options you'll have when you DO feel like painting! Keep smiling Tracey!
Oh I'd love to have one of those frozen yoghurts! Sounds like a wonderful place. I don't know how many sketchbook I started, I only know that there are only two or three finished ones. And most of the started ones only have a couple of pages used before I come up with a new idea that requires a new sketchbook. Unfinished work isn't so bad, and much better than not even getting started. They all look fabulous, and I'm sure their time will come to be finished. Just keep working :)

Drawing is such a struggle for me that it is just amazing to see a desk full of finished sketches that just need painting! LOVE the can opener, peeler and grater - only you could inject so much personality into kitchen utensils!!
