Hugest Happy New Year Wishes to all and sundry
it has been quite a ride the last few weeks
and my brain is running in fifty million directions at once
so before I get distracted
I want to open with the biggest thank you in the world to all of you
who made my Christmas so special after the crazy generosity of the Tea Party
over at Paint Party Friday, hosted by the uber cool Kristin and Eva
a sincere heartfelt thanks to all who managed to reduce me to floods of tears
at your fabulous art works, amazing words and support
there is no way I can express how much it gave me a lift
It still reduces me to sniffles just thinking about it all... you all rock ... big time
and on the back of that I have cruised into the New Year
on a wave of sugar, eggnog, endless bloody leftovers
and the smell of a new sketchbook and pens...
There is something about the smell of art supplies
it is like catnip to my brain and sends it spinning and zinging in all sorts of directions
a new sketchbook means all those glorious pages waiting to be filled
that moment of complete delicious terror of the first page
and not wanting to put the pox on the whole book with a crap sketch
it is the creak of the uncracked spine
it is the smooth coolness of the paper under your fingers
the feel of the scratch of the pen on the paper as you lay down those first lines
the frizzing in your brain when a bit of colour is added
then those squiggley lines that make you sigh and know all is right in the world
there is nothing quite like it is there
I had decided to draw and sketch a lot more this year
sort of a resolution... not really ... but kind of ... so I can sneak up on it
because I am spectacularly bad at resolutions, and in fact the whole drawing every day
had been watered back already to draw lots... lasted almost as long as I did last year
but I feel like I have a better excuse than last year for not sticking with a resolution
and that is that ideas are bursting forth too quick for me to get them down on paper
and Christmas was filled with all sorts of wonderful inspiring bits and bobs
which means my brain really does resemble a computer with a million browser pages open
or perhaps it resembles Sinus man in control of the remote for the tv and flicking through fifty squillion channels at warp speed ... seriously why do men do that????
all these things to draw and paint
and ideas flowing is a fabulous way to start the year
better too many ideas than not enough
and everything is fodder for my pen and paper
even packaging from burgers... cause how cool is this drawing...
seriously... and I need to practice hands... not sure what it will turn into but a fun starting point
So as I sit at the computer this is the sight that is looking at me
tempting me to stop typing and get drawing
how can I resist the siren call of a full desk...
we all know I can't even spell willpower so I am going to give in and get back to it
happy painting all...xx

I feel kind of the same about ideas and inspiration - my head is buzzing and I just want to PAINT!
Lovely china! And you're such an expert illustrating, wow!
All the best for you Tracey!

Tracey- you explained that 'Fear of the first page' so perfectly!! I'm still giggling. I am so glad that you are facing the New Year with a wonderful Family, a Fantastic Attitude and an Egg Nog Buzz:) Blessings to you all!

Fear of the first page ... Amen!
Hugs and much love ....
Happy New Year, Tracey! Have a blast with art in 2014!
well that was so beautifully expressed that I find it inspiring, my friend. We're both thinking the same thing, I'm gonna try a regiment of drawing daily (or as much as I can, no pressure). I'm hoping that I'll find the spectacular inspiration that you dip your cup into. Ahh, lucky girl.
Happy New Year Trace. Am sure you won't let the new sketch book beat you.....hell girl you have fought bigger battles. Hugs Annette x
As always making me smile as I read! You couldn't do bad sketch! Cheers to the mew year!

Just my humble opinion but your drawing is superb and I can almost smell your new art supplies from here...Happy New Year !
You always make me smile...and inspire me to want to drop everything else and go play with art supplies! :D Happy New Year!
Happy new year's painting!
I like to try out new pens and colors on the back pages of a new journal so they don't have that new journal "don't spoil/soil me" aura so much. I know your journals are always delighted by your entries. Thanks for adding the word squillion to my vocabulary, too. Happy drawing!
You just absolutely have the most fascinating cups and teapots and cutlery... they reflect well your own uniqueness and fascinating way with words, colors, lines and ideas. Pour it forth, sister! May your cup overflow in all excellent ways in 2014.
New art supplies...yummmm!! And you are putting them to good use already. Not a lot of brain buzzing going on over here. More itchy organizing fingers--LOL! Happy New Year, sweetie!! :)
I think the holiday "buzz" has faded and now I can get back to drawing and painting. I'm so glad that your sugar high has helped get your mojo going! Happy New Year - may it be filled with love, health and of course, much creating!
looks like you're having fun! I opened a new art journal with a January calendar. So exciting because this is way different, using watercolor paper! WooHoo! Enjoy! {:-Deb
I'd say you are off to a good start. That is a lot of sketches on your table.
Happy Sketching!
Oh new art supplies are indeed catnip to us. As long as we dont start to roll around in them as my cats do in catnip plants. My big boy Bro gets really silly on it, his eyes roll and then his personality takes a turn for the worse!
It does my heart good to see your desk looking so buzy. Go girl! Happy new year.
I love all your sketches, with new art supplies even. Love new art supplies! Happy New Year, Tracey!
Wow your mind is as sharp as a tack...and your passion is as vibrant as ever! Happy New Year Tracey! Glad you are drawing and painting like crazy!I have so much respect for your tenacity!! Wishing you wonderful things for the New Year!!
Big hugs Giggles
I am so with you on the smell of new supplies. I think your description of Catnip is just purrrrrrfect! I still remember the smell of my new stash each year for school and being sad when the new smell wore off. Loving your drawings as always. Hands are my personal fave to draw. They just take lots of practice.
A happy new year to you Tracey, I too love the unwrapping of a new sketch book. I wish you a year full of creative joy, filling the pages with your beautiful drawings. much love x
Lovely to see your work on your desk...and I love art supplies too. Happy New Year :-)

i like the thought of your brain with millions of pages open and your spine crackng, that made me chuckle. lovely sketches of the ordinary you seem to make extraordinary. xox
Happy New Year, Tracey! Yours is the first PPF blog I am looking at upon arising this Friday. I love your sketches. I am amazed at the way you can get the details of the forks and the teapot. You so inspire me.
Happy New year Tracey. I love your description of the anticipation of using a new sketchbook -I feel that every time I start a new painting on paper. Canvas is more forgiving in that respect. I've been uber lazy over Christmas and haven't done anything arty other than soak a watercolour page in the bath and use gum apps to stretch it to a backyarboard-first time I've ever bothered to do that so now I'm even more nervous about drawing the first line!!
Hi Tracey! You art is a fest for my eyes!Happy PPF and much love from Brazil!
You have comically and perfectly captured that new sketchbook feeling. I've had it for 6 months over an old door my husband sanded and primed for me. Yesterday I started a class with Alicia Burke and actually slapped some paint onto it.
I love your enthusiasm and wit. I'm sure it helps you in the hard times.
You're starting the New Year right. Creatively with good intensions. Just so.
Nothing like some new art supplies! Your sketches are just fantastic Trace-I am amazed at your keen eye for shading and details. Happy PPF and 2014!
I hope you will use some of that gorgeous purple reflections that I can see on the forks in the photo! Wishing you a 2014 filled with lots and lots of joy for you and your family, and that you will be in creative mood allways Trace!
I love your art room. It feels like one could just join in and draw with you. Art supplies, cat nip for the brain. What a great saying.
Have a very wonderful weekend

Happy New Year! I am buzzing with creative ideas too. I never even have the patience to do sketches I just get stuck in! I love the smell of new art materials apart from masking fluid that really pongs. Happy PPF
Wow! so much inspiration. 2014 will be a great year you you!:)
I'm always amazed at how you are inspired by everyday items to create such beautiful pieces of art. Happy New Year, my friend!
You describe everything so well, just the way we all feel. There is nothng like a mnew sketchbok for hapy feelings. I wuld have to live to 150 to use all the delicious new sketchbooks I have. But when I start a new one I cannot draw on the first page, I have to start on the third page in case I make a mess. So in awe of your artistic skills - and the hand is great. May this be a year when everything goes right fr yu, Sinus and Phantom. XX
Happy NEW Year to you Tracey. May you have a Blessed and Creative 2014. Love your sketches. Your table looks so inviting. Thank you for the inspiration.
Hugs
Susan

hello dear woman,
i am so happy that the art world touched your heart as it did, you so deserve to feel loved and appreciated!
your hand is awesome. hands are quite difficult, but maybe not if we practice.
wishing you a 2014 that feels awesome to you!
This is my first time back in blog land since Christmas and what an inspiring post you have on offer! I have yet to post on my blog this year - as always the Xmas break leaves me in need of a holiday! Not to mention the office inviting me in to catch up on two weeks worth of work, blah, blah... This is the first moment I have had and what ever it is that you are drinking that gets your creative juices flowing - I need some!!! So glad 2013 is over. This is going to be a good year! :0)
Happy New Year! Sending you all my positive energy! Hugs!
What a brilliant desk you have.. your sketches and writings are inspirational :) And I like how your brain works, as I can relate to having millions of browser pages being open!
I'm really looking forward to coming back to the land of the blogging, and reading more of your adventures in art (and tea :) xx
Hi Trace! I'm sorry I'm so late commenting on your post. I had the Mister home for like ever and then Blogger keeps making my comments vanish after I've written an epistle. Oh, the air is blue!!
I'm so happy for you that you had a tea party held in your honor! How wonderful and so deserved!!
Your drawings are so impressive, as always. I always dreamed I would draw like that some day, so I won't lie, I am living vicariously through your art. You can keep the cancer part, but I want to dream I'm you when it comes to the art part! I mean that drawing of the hand holding the world's most delicious-looking hamburger! LOVE!!! I so love the depiction of just ordinary everyday things that we ignore and take for granted and how you make them take on the importance they should have in our eyes. Forks have feelings, too.
I'm sorry too that I haven't gotten a card off recently. I am catching up on my cards this week. I like sending you happy mail!
Okay, I'll let you go and publish this before it goes poof! Take sweet care, honey chile, and keep up the good work! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Big hugs, Darnell
What a wonderfully creative looking desk! Mine just always ends up looking a complete mess. I love starting a new sketchbook, but somehow I never seem to get very far with them. I have a whole number of started sketchbooks, but hardly any finished ones. So this will be one of my new year's resolutions - finish at least one sketchbook! And sketch loads more too, every day, if possible. Hope 2014 will be a wonderful year for you, Tracey! xx
Happy New Year Tracey. So good to see you so excited and ready for the new year. I wish you the best.
thinking of you often and hoping you're spending the first part of this new year painting to your heart's content.
Happy belated New Year Tracey! May it be a healthy, hilarious and highly creative year xx
