I try to stay away from the controversial here on the blog
so no politics, religion or the freakin Kardashians
but today I am veering into slightly risky territory
and discussing that most divisive of seasonal beverages
Egg Nog ...or The Nog as it is affectionately named around here
and I know just the sight of it will have some of you rolling eyes and gagging slightly
while others will be licking lips and thinking nutmeg scented thoughts at the sight of it
I just hope you don't judge me too harshly for tipping my hat to the dreaded stuff
Don't worry that I have gone all Martha Stewart on you
and been in the kitchen whipping up jugs of the stuff
not on your Nelly ... oh no we aren't talking lovely home made here people
we are talking the store bought , out of a carton, has the slight whiff of plastic about it stuff
and in the past I have never been a huge fan, not a hater but more of a take it or leave it deal
maybe one or two laced with some brandy over the course of Christmas and I am set
which is a good thing as I am quite the light weight when it comes to alcohol
does Glug, Glug, Woohoo ring a bell with some of you...
anyway this year it has all changed and I am in love with the bloody stuff
for some reason when all else is impossible to face to eat or drink
and my stomach is doing those delightful chemo somersaults that I loathe so much
the nog sorts it... just one little glass cold out of the fridge
and I am sighing like I have been sipping the nectar of the gods
and just to clarify in case you are thinking I am in permanent glug glug woohoo territory
we are talking unadulterated, virgin nog here
just thought I should clear that up in case you had visions of a lop sided, bald woman singing bad 80's pop tunes at 1 pm in the afternoon
Even better is the combination of the nog with this little gem
it is a Zoku slushy maker and it is crazy marvelous
so in the heat of our Summer days and when the flush of chemo hits I just fill her up with nog
and presto I have a nog slushy... well as long as you don't sneak icy sips
and give it time to actually slushify... which is a great new word right
it is truly a wondrous thing
So I have crossed the divide and it is nog all the way through to Christmas baby
I am trying to not think about what will happen when the season passes
and it disappears from the shelves
I will be nog less ... which isn't going to be pretty
or may force me to actually make the stuff from scratch.... or to play the cancer card and make Phantom be the dutiful daughter and make it for me
either way I think this might be just the thing to see me through to the end of chemo
weird I know
but better than the 10 weeks of not being able to stomach chocolate
that was just cruel
So as you read this I will probably be lying around
and scooping my slushy nog with a smile on my face
or maybe at my desk contemplating just what happened to this Cuppa with Friends piece
which was a fab mug emailed in from Lori
It just didn't quite work the way I wanted it to
it might have to be revisited when I am not on such a sugar high from all the nog
and when I don't have a brain freeze from the said stuff being slushified
or whatever other lame excuse I can come up with
So I leave you with my nod to the nog
and wish you all a great week...xx

I've never really been a big fan of Egg Nog - until the past couple of years. Hubby loves it and I've had a few sips of his and I love the nutmeggy 'custard tart' flavour! I really want to try it in a slushy now. Might have to buy Miss Ariella a 'slushy magic' for Christmas! I assume they're about the same as the Zoku one...
"Slushify"... now that is a marvelous word! i wonder if you can slushify boys?;-) Not a Nog drinker over here... never had it! Maybe in the next 20 years i'll try it. But that cup now... those upside down dogs...That's me and mine!
wonderful paintings - don#t kno this egg nogs drink... I adore this dog cup Tracey it ROCKS!
Happy PPF!

Yumm yumm I will take one please. This is really wonderful
Nicole/Beadwright
very cute! Reminds me to add that - and some Kahlua - to my shopping list! {:-D
I give a big nod to the nog... Hey whatever works, Right!
Except I might put a little of the forbidden nectar in it. shhhhhh!
I so look forward to reading your blog!
I am delighted to learn that there is something you can stomach , that gives you this much delight! Is it really not sold anywhere year round?
I loved it in years past, but you've reminded me it's one more thing on my "I don't eat that anymore " list since embracing veganism!
So, please raise a cup for me ole girl! Drink one in my name!
Great that you find egg nog tasty! Lovely paintings, too, so it's an inspiring drink too, I guess! :)
I don't think we get this here, at least not in cartoons that I've ever seen. Think we could be missing out.Love your drawings, as always.
Tracy, I enjoyed seeing your wonderful paintings and want you to know your blog lightens up my life. As for egg nog, minus the alcohol, my son could not get enough of it when he was a teen. At one point he had his jaws wired together for a dental procedure thing, actually cutting his jaw and moving it forward to correct an overbite. During those 6 weeks he lived on shakes of all sorts: hamburger, veggies, etc. But his favorite was egg nog. Even to this day, in his 50s, he loves eggnog. I'm glad you can get some enjoyment from it too.
We don't have Egg Nog here.I simply love your art work!
Lovely illustrations and very cheerful post. Thank you for sharing. Big, big hugs!

Well I have never tasted the stuff! Assuming it contains raw egg, the very thought is enough to turn my stomach! It really does sound quite repulsive!!! It is so weird how your taste buds go all weird with chemo isn't it? I have heard about this... I wonder if they will now always like Egg Nog and dislike chocolate! I have to say, your painting does make the Nog seem far more attractive than I imagine it tastes! For me, it would be like a bush-tucker trial - and I would need the brandy just to make me do it! ;0)
Must be something to this because when my aunt was voing thru chemo whoever was going over would take mcdonalds eggnog shakes! Only thing that settled her stomach. I had to go to 3 one time to get one. Everyone was out. My dad brings everyone a jug at Christmas whether you like it or not. It's tradition. Lol. Drink on missy drink on!
My nod goes to the nog. I enjoy it in my coffee as well. Have you tried the ice cream? Delish!
Cheers to you for reminding us (once again) of the simple pleasures in life.
I love Egg Nog! I wonder if you could freeze nog? That way you'd have extra -- perhaps try it with one and see what it is like after it's been frozen ... but then that's a slushy???!!! Anyway -- here's to us Nog drinkers! YeeHaw!
Thanks so much for the laugh...you are toooo much:):)and thank god we don't have that "poison" nog in Germany so I am cleared for the season...speaking of which,,,,I hope it is a fantastic Xmas season for you and your family....take care,
Cynthia,,,,
I love seeing (and studying) your wonderful illustrations Trace! Your nog sounds delish! We love some egg nog at Christmas time-the one you get at the liquor store:)I do get the one in the carton to make egg nog bread-which is quite good too! Happy PPF!
i've never had an egg nog. never. but i think i would like a slushy one. that sort of sounds good.
Oh Yum Yum, tis the season for THE NOG with a dash of nutmeg and a little somethin' somethin' to make it Merry and Bright! Whoohoo!! Love that stuff plain or fancy. So glad you found it delightful and how clever of you to slushify it-sounds delish. Have a wonderful Merry Christmas!
Hi Tracey - I haven't been here in a while but it must have been serendipity that I stopped in today, having had a love/hate relationship with nog all my life. Gonna try yours. Sending hugs across the globe.
Tracey,
You know you can freeze egg nog in the carton it comes in?? There's enough air space in the carton to accommodate the expansion when frozen. I can envision an "army" of cartons in your freezer, ready at a moment's notice to stave off any ill effects of chemo on your stomach.
Thanks for sharing, love the dog cup.
Niki
I honestly can't remember if I've ever tasted egg nog or not. I have these moments like with parascending for example where I'm not quite sure if I actually did it in real life or just dreamt that I did!! Anyway, I'd there's actual egg in it I won't be trying it now! I'm glad you love it and that it is something you can stomach during the chemo although it sounds gross virgin or great painting of it though and I love the sound of the slushy Cup even though I'd never have need of it over here!!
Hi Tracey. Glad to see you doing your great work. Awesome drawings. My dad made us eggnog when we were kids. Milk, eggs, sugar and cinnamon and then an egg beater to beat the heck out of it. I loved it. You can buy quarts of eggnog and freeze it. It will be okay. Just let it defrost completely in the frig. Tastes the same. I've done it before. Good to see you. Well wishes to you. Today I still drink it, but add a little rum to it.
Goodonya Tracey...glad something helps. Haven't noticed this on the supermarket shelves, but I'm usually fairly blinkered when shopping. Will give it a go. Wish you a peaceful and joyous Xmas...and HEALTH in 2014.
Slushify, such a fab word Trace. Not for me the Egg Nog but if its doing you good, drink up my friend and get Sloshified.
Hugs Annette x
Glad there is something to settle your tummy Tracey, but egg-nogg?! And I am stealing your word, slushify is excellent. I am already thinking of all the things I can slushify, like mangoes and lychees and strawberries..... Stay good, your strength inspires me. Fiona
Oh so happy you are enjoying your Egg Nogs, keep on delighting in what feels good!
Hugs and best of wishes your way,
Kat xx
Im an egg nog lover too, and I really like your painting this week. Drink up! I'm glad you found something you can enjoy! xo
I don´t know much about egg nog, but I love that juicy orange colour! It is mouth watering! Love that cup too! I am going to send you a photo of two handmade cups I got these days.
Enjoy your drink, dear!
Cheers
Gabriele
I adore Egg Nog and it freezes really well - I know because in fear of it leaving the shelves I have frozen lots of it! So, freeze on and feel well.
Back long ago when I used to drink I kind of like rum and eggnog over the holidays. When I didn't drink anymore I tried some virgin eggnog and decided I could live without it. I am so glad it helps with the nausea!! Could you buy it up and freeze it? Since you plan to slushify it anyways--it's a thought. ;)
Your pictures make the nog more appealing to me than I remember--LOL!
Love and hugs!!
Cheers!
KLINK
joy to you and love your art!!!
Better than the (pretty revolting to me) egg nog is the news that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, or at the end of chemo anyway. Live will start getting back to normal. Enjoyed your post and your lively sense of humour as always. Keeping you in my thoughts. XX
Yep I'd be one of those gaggers you speak of... wow good for you if you can get that past your lips. Pretty sure you could stock up and freeze a bunch to last you until Chemo is over!! Now lets talk about that gorgeous artwork...so glad you are getting some therapeutic time!! I'll have the rum...while you have the nog!!A perfect combo!! Cheers to us!!
Hugs Giggles
No worries I love the nog!! Glad your enjoying it your way. Loving your illustrations too. Happy PPF
Never the nog look cuter-er!
I want some now! ♥ Hugs!
The thought of you nogless is distressing me. Perhaps Santa can help :)
Dearest Tracey, *hug*, your resilient sense of humour warms the cockles of my heart and almost always raises a smile. How wonderful that you have discovered that something as yummy as 'the nog' can ease the dreaded pukeville feelings. I giggle at the thought of you singing aloud, glass in hand, then cursing as brain freeze kicks in, lol. Brain freeze truly sucks!
I really like your image of Lori's cheerful mug.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and don't run out of the nog - store it up. Hey! Can it be frozen? You could buy & freeze it so that it will last you well after the festivities are over. Just an idea? Love hugs for now - Mo xx
Love your painting! It is so good to see you working! We have the most amazing egg nog here! And it is super delicious with Godiva's white chocolate liqueur! I wait all year until it is available again :)
Enjoy your nog! Do you know I don't think I have ever tried it! I will look out for it. I saw the colorful Campbell's soup and marshmallow fluff in the supermarket recently and thought of you :)
Karen x
Glad you've found something to help you along, even if it is eggnog (I thought Advocaat was bad until i was subjected to eggnog!).
I'm not a Nog fan. I prefer boiled custard. I'm so glad you have found something that makes your stomach happy. Maybe you could freeze the nog. Then you could have a supple that will last you a few months. I freeze skim milk. I really like Lori's cup.
I enjoyed my visits to your blog. You gave me a chuckle this morning along with some eye candy. Thanks!
I've gone back and forth on the nog over the years. This year I had two sips of the many gallons that my hubby has consumed and that was enough. But hey, whatever floats your boat or makes your tummy happy. LOVE that slushie cup. Gotta look for one of those around here. And love Lori's cup! Adorable... xx
