This week we have rushed headlong straight into Summer
and so maybe it is natural that I have been spending time drawing and painting fruit and veg
and I have been obsessing about a radish and cucumber pickle salad
which is a bit odd as I hadn't thought of it for years, but it has invaded my brain and won't let go
which has led to drawings of radishes of course...
maybe I need Sinus to head to the market so I can make it up, cure the obsession and move on
and paint up the pineapple and peas waiting on my desk
but it has been a bit of a weird thinking week all round so maybe that won't cure it at all ...
For example I have been dreaming about fish almost every night this week
it started with grilled fish and coconut fish curry
then the next night I dreamt about Phantom's Fairy Godmother's Shelly's incredible Asian whole snapper in amazing detail
then moved onto dreams about goldfish, then goldfish in the freezer
which is a result of a disastrous summer in Florida where we seemed to kill a gold fish a week and Phantom wouldn't let us flush them so they ended up in the freezer
to this day I suspect she was taking them out of the bowl to have a play with them
but last night was the weirdest dream of all
and I dreamt about those little goldfish cookies from Pepperidge Farm that Phantom used to grind up into the car seats and into every orifice but never actually ate... she just liked crushing the little buggers... which maybe explains the high mortality goldfish summer right...
and I woke up with the theme Go Goldfishy from the ads going around in my head
I am almost scared to think where the fish odyssey will go next....
but at least fish dreams are better than the chocolate tragedy that has occurred
it seems that chemo has made all chocolate taste like sand
now I have tried almost every chocolate known to man to see if it is universal
and Cadbury's , Lindt, Purdey's, Hersheys, Maltesters, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, even baking chips are all completely and worryingly weird to eat... it is like the texture is all wrong
I am seriously concerned for mental wellbeing if chocolate is off the table
Add to that the dog is freaked out by my new look and keeps staring at my baldy head
but he is slowly being convinced that I am still me
and even managed to be close enough to sneeze on my head this morning
which was totally gross yet oddly comforting on two levels
one it made me stop humming that Goldfish theme for a moment
and two that it was easy to clean off rather than my normal mad rush to get in and wash my hair to clear it of possible dog snot flyers
mind you I would much prefer he sneezed on someone else for a time... it is still mightily gross
And with that overshare of doggy grossness
I will leave you to ponder your own weird random thoughts this week
I feel a bit of a sneeze coming on so I am off to find the mutt for some payback...xx
Linking up with Paint Party Friday ...xx

Oh Tracey, you are amazing, suffering through chemo and you still find the humor in everyday life, honestly you are a true inspiration, your radish are beautiful and hope you fill that hunger for them soon!Take care sweet lady,
Your radishes look good enough to eat! Tracey, I love your sense of humour! You're incredible! My hair is growing back...half my head was shaved in the back for my cancer surgery. You know the good thing? It was so much cooler this summer during the heat wave! :)
I love those goldfish crackers with their quirky smile. I wonder who at Pepridge Farm decided that all goldfish should smile like that. Sneezing dogs are a fav of mine too. I'm sneezed on at least twice a day :) Love the radishes - hoping Sinus made that salad for you.
fabulous radishes Tracey!! Your tales always crack me up-and now I'll probably have a fish dream tonight too :) Keep going strong!
Such a fun and funny post, Tracey. You are an inspiration! I hope the chocolate thing is temporary! I really do.
Oh the inhumanity, you can't eat chocolate. I just couldn't imagine it. There's always doggy chocolate drops. You would be getting back at Mushu and getting a sort of choc fix but you might have a cold wet nose.
Beautiful paintings, I hope you got your fix.
Take care.

roflmao... over the dog snot. You are so entertaining. Sorry about the chocolate thing. Surely it's a temporary thing. Your radishes are pretty. I much prefer your painting to the real thing. I'm not a fan of the taste of radishes. Thanks for the laugh

The fact that you are dreaming about food during chemo I take as a really good sign, lady! Silver lining on the dog snot, I guess. ;) You have to take gratitude where you can find it, right? Love your radish sketches, although I really dislike eating them they do look pretty. Glad you are hanging in there and sound in good spirits. *love and hugs* :):)
Have you tried chocolate ice cream, or ice cream with chocolate sauce? It may not be any better than what you've already tried, but there's no harm in trying. So glad to hear your dog loves you and that hair washing is now easier. Your art is as always, colorful & delightful. I hope you dream more of food and less of goldfish. :)
Fish. Fish and dog snot. And chocolate that has no taste. Interesting week you're having Tracey. It's good to hear your humor through it all.
Your radishes are wonderful. We have a fall final crop in, so hopefully will have some fresh from the garden soon.
A joy to read, and the goldfish thing is sadly too familiar. Hugs, xx dd
I'm not a huge fan of radishes - when I was a little girl mom had them in her garden and I was sad that I didn't have a garden. One day I decided to remedy that and brought mom out to show her "my garden" - I had pulled all of mom's radishes out and planted them in my sandbox. Mom was not pleased! Maybe that's why I still seem to have an aversion to them. . .
Love your radishes :).
Stay inspired!
Meravigliosi!!

Tracey you never cease to amaze me! I wonder why the wierd fish dreams-bizarre! I Mercer like radishes and I hate cucumber so that salad sounds pretty yuck to me although your radish illustrations actually make them look lovely! Losing the ttaste for chocolate is an unexpected side effect buy hopefully it will taste twice as nice when you're done with the chemo. Xx
Ya know, I thought that Yul Brynner was so handsome in his outstanding bald head, and I bet you are too..outstanding! I tried to analyze your fish dreams but it didn't work??? Have another dreamy week!
...hugs dear kindred!...(O:
Do hope you are getting along okay, even with all the yucky chemo and considerably yucky dog snot! Sorry about the chocolate thing though, now that is serious. Thinking of you and finding it incredible how you can be doing such great drawings under the circumstances, you are amazing Tracey. Hugs.
A life without chocolate is disastrous my friend......and fish, where did that come from.....hells bells that chemo has a lot to answer for. Great drawings as always, sending you lots of love and hugs.
Happy PPF, Annette x

So only you can make a radish look like a radish and a tasty radish at that! I have been a vegetarian for 35 years but not crazy about radishes. When I dream it is often about steak and barbecues- so what does that mean? Aaaaw your sweet doggie sneezing on your baldy head- he is showing ownership of it. Love it and you. xxxx
btw have you tried carob or is that like sabotage?
Oh my what a comedienne you are my dear!! Somethings fishy around here though...cuz I have been craving fish for weeks and weeks.... Are you telepathic too? Seriously I had smoked oyster when the kids were in Vegas since Cupcake will moan and complain about the smell...but I want salmon, shrimp, halibut, and prawns.....but NOT frozen goldfish!! Cupcake eats the pepperidge ones when her stomach is bad...That purple radish reminds me of my childhood, mom would slice it, I would eat it raw with a bit of salt on it! I loved it!!I thought it was a white turnip though. Beautiful illustrations. I think you should do a cartoon self portrait with Mishu mung on the bald parts!!
So good to see you one here!! Have an email half finished sitting in draft.... freeze that purdys until after the Chemo....better yet...HIDE IT.....It won't last in your freezer.
Hugs Giggles
You never cease to amaze or change Trace...it's wonderful to see you both painting and laughing at life.
Those radish are brilliant.
I can't help thinking the Mutt is possibly thinking I'm glad she didn't take me to her groomer! ^..^ I know he's just been clipped! ;D
I have to say I'm concerned with the chocolate issue though. I hope it's just a temperary thing. Fish over chocolate...that just not right!
Take care Trace
Hugs xoxo
Haha! I have visions of you polishing your head! You do make me laugh ;0)
Anyway - I thought my own head was full of weird and random thoughts - but none quite so weird as yours! Maybe the chemo has fried part of your brain... the part that makes any sense anyway ;0)
It is truly tragic that chocolate tastes weird to you now - have you tried hot chocolate? I hope it doesn't last! As for the frozen Goldfish - well that is just gross on so many levels!!!! Lets just hope that Matt doesn't get them mixed up with the fish fingers the next time he cooks the dinner! Your radishes on the other hand look truly appetizing - Yum Yum! I want some! Love them - but it's the beginning of Autumn here so won't be getting any for a while. But your paintings are totally gorgeous, so at least I get to enjoy them on some level :0)
you are still cracking me up - even with all the seriousness in your life! I want your salad recipe! the chocolate is a thing is a weird deal. . .I am confident your tastebuds will recover!
Wow! what weird dreams you have been having, I wonder what they mean? I love your radishes and that salad sounds yummy. I hope your taste for chocolate returns to normal once the chemo's finished. i couldn't imaging life without my 70%
That is just tragic news about the chocolate, does that mean that liver might taste good? You might be starting a whole new foodie trend if you can find the magic elixer that will replace chocolate...Lovely radishes, lovely sketches and watercolors always. Fish dreams of the goldfish sort. I am picturing a freezer overflowing with tiny goldfish....pouring out all over the kitchen floor. xox
Sorry to Hear about the Chemo! I know exactly how you feel.
Try and trick your mind! This happened to me when Pregnant. I love coffee and caramel is my favorite.
When pregnant and the doctors and nurses laughed at me. You have to give up coffee and no sweets.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!
Their laughter. and their saying now you will crave them- It is the vicious medical side effects.
Basically, when pregnant -- The smell of Coffee, Tea, and Caramels brought out Mr Hyde. He really exists.
I do hope there is a way for you to put chocolate on Prawns and it taste Yummy! Have to try -- it is a new adventure.
Who else would/could paint radishes and make them look so desirable. I can taste a radish sandwich right now, ..... and it's horrible. Can't stand the things. But your colours are so clear that even radishes look enticing. Perhaps there is a career for you in painting salad foods for the packets of seed companies.
So glad you can use your humour to brighten life. You certainly do it for me, though I'm glad to say that the nasty bits are over for a month or two.
Thinking of you as always. XX
i love radishes and your watercolor. i haven't had any fish dreams (lately), but i have been eating a lot of fish recently. your random thoughts made me laugh. so good to *see* you. you are amazing. you are loved.
oxox
Your paintings are fantastic and it's great that you can still have so much humour when you can't eat chocolate!! Hopefully it's just a temporary thing :-)
You make me laugh! Your radishes are divine...once had a radish fetish when I was little, dipping them into mayonnaise before eating. The cucumber and radish salad sounds wonderful for a summer salad. Dog snot, not so much. Goldfish in the freezer? That is a hoot. Chocolate...tragedy. xoxox
I really hope that was the last of the fishy dreams! I also hope that gritty chocolate taste is only very temporary and you can start enjoying all your favourite flavours again very soon!
Tracey, I literally search you out every week because I know that your post will give me a lift. First, let me comment on the radishes. You've done a beautiful job. I don't know that I know that I have ever heard of that salad before and frankly, it doesn't appeal to me. I am sorry about the texture of chocolate changing for you. I hope this is merely a temporary thing, because to me, chocolate trumps radishes every time. I dream of food almost every night. I have wondered why. Am I hungry? As for goldfish, ah, don't we all have goldfish stories? Children and goldfish! I loved your story. Maybe I'll tell you mine someday.
chemo itself is cruel enough for you to have to endure, but for it to mess with your chocolate -- that crosses the line. I think about you lots and am so inspired by your dedication to posting, drawing, painting & keeping us all uplifted even through this awful ordeal. you are pretty awesome. xo
Tracey,
No way, trading radish and pickle salad for chocolate?? That is truly cruel and unusual punishment. Hopefully that is a temporary side effect and will disappear when you are done with the meds.
Dreaming of fish is a little odd I think. My son prefers the beta fish to goldfish. I can't say I've dreamt about the dearly departed ones at all.
You go girl!
Well that's just sh..y about the chocolate. Ummm your mutt has very short legs, so what on earth are you doing rolling around on the floor for Mishu to be able to sneeze on you? Has chemo shrunk you to the size of a pepper pot, hence the sneezing dog? Or has the dog taken to sitting on your shoulder like a parrot? You can see what weird things go through my head and I don't have the excuse of chemo... Hope your ok dear bloggy friend.. :) Hugs to you girl
ps...I think the goldfish is thing is quite sane, under the circumstance..sounds perfectly logical to me.. :)
I always love your sketches and paintings. The radishes are beautiful. I wish you a lot of power for everything!
You are making me hungry! I love radishes to munch on, but also because they are so colorful and cheerful. Your sketches of them are great!
You don't usually see paintings/drawings of radishes - a neglected veggie in my opinion. These are great...I always forget your seasons are the reverse of the US - lucky you heading into summer, though it might be better to be bald in the winter where it wouldn't be odd to be wearing a hat.... I'm sure you'll wear your scarf/hat/baldness with total panache!
You and your sneezy mutt - the image is almost too gross for words, yet oddly amusing too...how can that be?
Now about that chocolate thing....don't panic yet - everything may yet return to normal. But if it doesn't, you're just going to have to go through the torture of trying every candy and sweet thing in the grocery til you find some new favorites. Now there's a hardship! :) For your sanity (and Sinus & Phantom), hope your taste buds return to normal QUICK! -
Those radishes are like fine jewelry! Your talent is astounding, Tracey. You could make a dog turd look beautiful!!
That sucks so much that you can't taste/bad taste chocolate. Talk about kicking a person when they're down. It's outrageous! You prolly can't drink either, huh? Geesh. Dogs blowing snotty boogers on your bald head ... it's all so wrong.
But it'll end up all so right in the end, that's what's important. In the meantime, though, I'd keep tasting that chocolate every couple a days, just to see if the magic came back!!
Big hugs! Darnell
Hi Tracey. Love your sense of humor. You rock girl! Your radishes look good enough to eat. I remember reading somewhere that when you dream of fish, you are overcoming difficulties that stand in your way of accomplishing things. Something to that effect. Happiness and health to you Tracey.
gloria
Radishes are beautiful.
Lovely radishes, great color! I hope your taste for chocolate returns to normal soon! What entertaining dreams you have! Hugs! :) <3 <3 <3
The fish dreams would be like a nightmare to me - can't abide the taste/smell and am scared of water :) Love that you are a doggy sneeze magnet - I think that's preferable to mine who comes, sits on my laps does a wet pffft and then leaves me with the stink while he saunters off, giving me a filthy backwards glance like I have somehow offended HIM.
Glad to see you on here and making US all smile too. Big hugs.
I remember how at times I'd be in the shot distance of my dog's sneezes. Not too fun at the time but something to laugh about later. Like you said, the sweet thing is how your dog was close enough to do that.
Glad to see you're gaining strength and getting back in the studio.
hugs and strength,
Juana
Great to see your post in my time line, and hilarious as usual. Have you considered buying a baseball cap or beanie hat as snot protection?
The chocolate thing isn't on, it's just not cricket! You have my sympathy though; my new meds make coffee taste weird :(
x
I have never seen more gorgeous radishes, to be sure, but I am a bit disturbed by the snot on the head. I simply do not know that I could make a joke about it! But that is why we all love you so, dear Tracey, because you can take a snotty yucky thing and point out a lighter side. You teach us just how powerful humor is and you inspire us to no end with your wonderful view of the world. Bless you! xo, janice
Beautiful radishes. So happy they don't have snot -- either real or painted -- on them. hugs!
You are blessed with the best sense of humor, since I can envision you sneezing on your poor dog - LOL! Your radishes look good to eat off the screen, my friend. Blessings!
I've missed so much! Happy Summer to you and your beautiful veg! You never cease to amaze . . . xoxo
Hey Trace, I read your post on Friday, though I got called away and did not get back to respond (until now). I have been thinking about you though. What's the dressing for the Radish and Cucumber salad? Creamy? Radish is on my list of things to try. So any suggestions as to the best way to eat it will be greatly appreciate. Oh no the horrors, chocolate tasting like sand. I'd never thought I'd hear that. Great post Tracey, and beautiful radish paintings. x
I love you attitude toward everything. You are amazing. Those radishes look just like what I bought at the Green Market Sat. Tastes good too. Blessings, Janet PPF
Radishes are such fun to draw and paint, and I love yours! The radish and cucumber pickle salad does sound a bit odd, though. Can't quite imagine how that tastes like. Really hope that your chocolate taste buds will be back to normal soon! Hope summer will bring you lots of good! (Though I must say that I'm sooo glad that summer's finally over here, and that the air is turning fresh and crisp :) )
Hahaha, I' late to this one but will say it anyway: we just killed our first goldfish... within 12 hours of getting and naming him: kaput! It was a birthday gift:-/ The owner looked pensive for a minute and then decided that the "upside" was that he could now dissect the fish! My nose later found the fish in our recycle bin:-0 where it was being "stored" until "we" could use it as compost to fertilize our soil for a corn crop, "like the indians, you know!" No i don't know and don't want to know and do not want to wait until next spring to find out what compost fish smells like!
Haha, fish... maybe you need some serious infusions of omega 3 in your life.... and why not some reishi mushrooms while you're at it .... shiitake too...certainly can do no harm... would have loved to see a fun fishy drawing after all these piscean experiences but I'm not one to ask such things of you at this time!!
Yes, I agree with Alicia. Try to use reishi mushroom. It will give you a new flavor.
