Winter Wimp ...

I am loving the whole Summer of Colour 2013
and the fabulous colour prompts for this week are Purple and Lime Green
which are suitably summery and bright which is extra wonderful
as it is a rather chilly winter here in Queensland, Australia
and the colours are injecting some much needed bright spots
they are almost enough to create the illusion that I am not freezing my butt off
although if cold weather did actually shink my butt by freezing it I may start to be a fan
but until that magical butt shrinking day comes... not a fan people
of the weather that is... love the painting and SoC...
just not a fan of painting with freezing fingers

I don't do cold weather well
actually that is an understatement, I am a winter wimp in a big way
I hate cold, any cold, even Queensland cold, which by most standards isn't cold at all
but it is enough to see me wearing bed socks at all times,
contemplating staying in pajamas until 2 pm,
comforting myself by dipping my chocolate biscuits into hot chocolate
which is why the butt shrinking freeze thing would be handy
and sending me cowering under duvets and blankets
while declaring I am not getting out of bed again until September

What really annoys me about cold weather though
is the very same dog that has to lie all over you when it is 5 million degrees out
won't come and be a little furry heater when you need him
oh no... he has his mangy little polar fleeced butt tucked up in any bed he can find
and if he can't burrow under the covers then he buries himself under mounds of pillows
and doesn't move until he is deathly hungry, or his eye balls are swimming
the traitorous little mutt does exactly what I would like to be doing this cold, windy afternoon
which is why I am now going to put my cold hands on him to get him to move
and then jump under the blankets myself
happy week 3 all ...xx

Haha!! This post is hilarious and I identify with everything you said. I've been freezing all day...my feet will not warm up! I prefer winter to summer but I guess it's a bit too cold for me today so I'm a Qld winter wimp too then. :P I have 2 dogs who are usually on my lap of a night but I do have one that burrows in under the doona during the day if she can! I love your painting! Love hydrangeas! Love the butt shrinking thing too. You're a crack up! :)

Oh dear....I just turned my fan on....Your beautiful summer hydrangea is deflecting the fact that you are headed into winter. Hope your new tea gets there soon!!

Very funny post...dogs are totally like that too...never there when you need them....cute when the camera is in the other room, and misbehaving when company is around!!

Love your bloom! yeah, really,,,,where did that expression come from....freeeezing my butt off...or sweating my A%& off come from.....trust me it is NOT true,,,as I do both and no.... you or I will never be able to write a new diet book using those tips. tooooo bad....
as I know we'd sell millions and get very rich and could just sit around on our BUTTS LAUGHING OUR A%$&# OFF,,,,couldn't we. All the way to the bank and back.

Well considering it has been pushing high 80's low 90's here in midwest USA I guess I would be happy to take some of the cool temps lol....love your entry for this weeks SOC - still trying to figure out which pic I will use for mine....

My hydrangeas are nowhere near blooming yet. Love your paintings.

Tracey,YOU make me laugh out loud! I'm with you, a cold weather wimp I am. Prefer no shoes. Since I live in FL that is pretty much the way of life. When temps dip below 70 that is winter in my book. Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, you did an awesome job on yours! Grab some tea and stay warm! Hugs~

I agree with you about winter and how I would rather stay bundled up inside! The butt freezing thing sounds lovely, if you figure it out let me know! Love your painting. It's really gorgeous especially since I love hydrangeas and love this color combination this week.

Gorgeous hydrangea!!!

I don't like winter either and your post made me giggle all the way through. I've been known to stay in my PJ's all day during a cold spell!! I love summer weather.

such a pretty piece you did, its lovely, OK, I will tell you I lost every thought after you started talking about dipping chocolate bisuits in tea, because I associate this blog with TimTam;s , I just do, I am simple minded that way, now I have to go out this morning and see if the ONE and only store in our ghost town has bought more!
You would never be able to stand the cold here my dear, its been outstanding summer weather, for us, 70 and almost reached 80 , thats as hot as it gets and not often and not for long, yesterday was the hottest this year, I will try and send some of our heat to you, are you ready, here it comes, oh my gosh, I need a Tim Tam, I'm losing it ha ha,

Absolutely lovely! I have hydrangeas in the garden.. I've been photographing them.

Dogs - what can you do :) The butt shrinking would be a wonderful byproduct of cold weather. Since I live in the midwest of the United States, it gets very cold in the winter. Of course, I don't like it really hot either.

Love your Hydrangeas.Very nice work for SOC! Well it's muggy over here after a few sprinkles, soon to be extra hot. I'd rather have the cold.:)

Love your story. I can so relate to that. I am not a person for cold weather either. I often feel I was born in the wrong country, not today though. The sun has been shining and I could sit outside and let the heat of the sun seep into my bones....
Love your painting, beautiful colors.

Beautiful flowers and love your story!!

Love the flowers, I tell you the freezing weather does not shrink the butt, we have had -3 three mornings in a row and my butt is still big! My glint of past summer days is a yellow daisy bush that has survived snow storms, frosts and what not. If it wasn't for that bush I since I would slip into grey gloom!

I've always wanted to paint a hydrangea, but was always a little overwhelmed by all those individual little flowers - you've put me to shame, yours is gorgeous!

i would rather be a little cold than too hot.... but then again i am a freckly gal.

I love your flowers, so beautiful and delicate! I'm afraid I'm a wimp with both cold and hot weather... Sigh. I so much enjoy your posts, I find myself laughing aloud, thanks for your beautiful art and wonderful words. I hope you're nice and warm!

Some beautiful summer colour!
People who think that Australia is always warm don't realise that we don't usually have central heating, so when it's 10 degrees outside (not that cold by British standards) it's also 10 degrees inside! Thank heavens for Uggs, I say.

Rita said...

You would really hate it way up here--LOL! I do love your painting, though. You'd never know you were shivering when you created it. ;)

Shahrul Niza said...

LOL, oh dear ... it does sound miserable :). Hope you feel warm with all the smiles & giggles from our comments today. I come from a hot weather country, so I did missed college-living through winters in Colorado, freezing butt and all :).

Your hydrangeas are gorgeous!!. Do you garden too?.

Stunning painting - and such a lovely choice of flower for the challenge. I laughed at your blog post - I'm the opposite, I constantly complain about the heat! Strange creatures aren't we!

Well as cold at it might be down under, you radiate summery thoughts with your lovely purple flowers! I would say I sympathize - but your winter is probably about the same as our summer, so I just can't bring my self to sympathize at all, lol! ;0)

You are so cool! I laughed out loud this morning when I read your theory about the butt shrinking freeze thing. (I love it to read your posts in the morning for breakfast before going to work). And I love this flower and I wonder how you can paint such a lovely summer plant during your cold winter time?

Carin Cullen said...

The hydangea is beautiful and I completely sympathise on the freezing front...only problem is, it's supposed to be summer here :-/

Tracey,
You make me laugh every time! Sending Love and Warm Thoughts...

Prairie Jill said...

Beautiful sketch! I really love your style.

I will try to think warm thoughts for you! This might make you feel better: in winter, high temps here in Winnipeg often are down around -25C to -30C, so ... well, I should have a really tiny butt! (Key word here being "should".) Meanwhile, we're sweltering in 27C heat today - which is probably mild by your standards!

Enjoy your hot chocolate!

Kimberly Hogan said...

Love your Hydrangeas. Your post is very funny. PLEASE… if you figure out the whole butt shrinking thing, I'll throw on a scarf and some mittens and freeze right along side you!!! I am now following all of your "FOLLOW ME" side bar buttons. (((HUGS)))

Well we're supposedly in the height of Summer but we swing from to hot or to cold (though not hot enough for most Brits... but I hate the heat.)

Your flowers however are gorgeous. I love the zinginess you get into your pictures.

Your butt-freezing comments made me LOL!

Your painting is lovely. I like the way you used the lime green as an aura around the flowers.

I'd much rather do cold than hot - I can always put on more layers but there is only so much you can take off (in mixed company, that is)!!
