The Good, The Bad And The Decidedly Weird

So this week has been a bit of a mixed bag with lots of good things happening,
like Phantom allowing me to paint the perfume bottle she got for her birthday
well not allowed exactly, more didn't complain when she saw I had liberated it from her room
This perfume smells lovely, which is a bit of a relief as the packaging may have played a bit of a role in my decision to purchase it for her,
and luckily it suits her and doesn't smell like cat's swill on her it all worked out nicely
The win for me was that it was great fun to paint up even if I only got time for it to be a sketch
I often have a play in my sketchbooks before I paint something up in a more finished form
but this one came together quite nicely ...
so this definitely falls into the good category of the week

Also on the good is the crazy great time that I have had painting up mugs and cups
it has been liberating to push myself to use more materials
and for the first time in ages I have delved into my draw of papers and bits and bobs
and start mixing and playing more with textures, papers and techniques
made more fun by the fact that the neighbour seems to have fixed his wind issues of last week
and the studio has been free of his butt music all week
see , lots of good right

On the not so good side of the ledger is the fact that Mushu the wonder mutt
smells oddly like Chinese food... and not nice, fresh Chinese food
but more like the old, suspiciously furry lot that hides at the back of the fridge
he needs a bath... bad... and is so stinky that an ant actually jumped off his butt
which you would think would be a good thing is light of last week's debacle, but no
this ant jumped off his butt and crawled in between Phantom's toes and bit her
can I just point out how bad the dog must smell that an ant would rather nestle between toes that have been in school shoes all day...
It resulted in a bite and a yelp, from Phantom not the dog... he snored through it all
and a mad dash to kill the offending ant, who was surprisingly speedy
Phantom then needed ice to make the swelling go down,
but as she has opposable thumbs she was able to do this herself,
which left me free to scour the sofa for more rogue butt jumping ants
not a highlight...

So we have covered the good and the bad so it is time for the decidedly weird
and this moment is bought to us by my beloved husband, Sinus Man
Remember these tooth brushes... well I made the grievous error of buying one for Sinus
and he now keeps asking me to feel his teeth... which is weird right
I mean I am happy they are so clean and all that
after all I love the clean I get from mine, but this is not something I think he needs to share
and no matter how many times he asks I am not feeling his bloody teeth

happy weekend to you all
especially my friends at Paint Party Friday ...xx

My last two post links are here...

Lol at the ant! Poor Phantom. Are those toothbrushes the vibrating ones?

Wow Queens of Cups, I'm glad we don't have biting ants...but boy if they nest anywhere near a door we are on them like stink!!

Your illustration is actually more beautiful than the bottle which is also gorgeous!! Maybe you should be designing perfume bottles...I am going to want to nail that down and give it a sniff!!

Okay Sinus...that is too weird buddy....I have heard of intimacy...but that is up there with bum jives/jibes from the tooter house next door!!!

You are so funny. I like your painting of the tooth brushes. And your hubby wanting you to feel his teeth! Haahahahaaaa! Awesome!

Oh no! Now I am going to have dreams about biting ants! LOL!
Lovely perfume jar.
I don't particularly want to feel anyone's teeth. If I had wanted to do that in this lifetime I would have become a dental tech--ROFL! ;)

Tracey, your perfume bottle painting is wonderful and a very good likeness of the one owned by Phantom. Beautiful work, as usual.

And I have to say... you did a splendid work with that bottle! Looks wonderful!

Love the hot pink with the cerulean blue, awesome. Your antics make me think that you should be writing a column for glossy magaszines, they wouldnt even have to hire an illustrator! You are so talented.

Wow! That really is a beautiful painting of the perfume bottle Tracey. I love the colours and the loose pen lines over the watercolour. I have been bitten by ants, are they the big ones or the tiny ones that bite? They have always "done a runner" by the time I realize! I must add that your husbands request is an odd one! lol He must think they are nice and smooth:)

You are the master of bringing excitement to still life paintings. I don't remember borrowing anything from my daughters for projects, but they're masters of "borrowing" my stuff. At least that's what they call it. LOL! Have a great weekend, my friend.

Your point of view creates a much lovelier perfume bottle

Wow! the painting of this perfume bottle looks great. They should use this in their advertising, I'm going to seek it out and see what it smells like for myself. Oh, just a thought, perhaps you could spray some on your mutt, lol. :)

Great perfume bottle! I would've bought that too just for the look ...

Stone the crows Sheila!!! Just how big are those ants down under??? I didn't even realise that ants could bite! Ours are tiny little things...
Anyway - yes - asking you to feel his teeth is definitely weird! If ever Paul gets an ulcer, he always insists on me poking around in his mouth until I can feel the exact dimensions! I wouldn't want anyone poking around in my mouth, that's for sure!
The perfume bottle is gorgeous! I can see why you wanted to paint it and the sketch is so pretty! I'm with Ann - maybe you could spay some on the mutt! ;0)

Marvelous perfume bottle. I can see what attracted you to it and your painting of it is even nicer than the original because you have captured the softness of the rose. xox

So glad that the perfume smells as good as you make the bottle look. There is nothing worse than an ant bite. It really hurts. Have a great week.

HEY! That's a good idea...when people get fun gifts they don't want to open because they are to pretty? OR that perfume bottle? That would make cool painting subjects. As you've just established...haha Sure love your work ESPECIALLY my tea cup. Gram was so touched! Love your quirky stories about you fam. Thanks so much for sharing your work. Happy Paint Party Friday!

Your rendering of the perfume bottle is absolutely stunning.
I always get such a nice shot of happy when I visit you, Tracey. I'm such a serious girl by nature so it's great to come here and look at the world through your delightful lens. It always makes my day a little better and makes me a person that is a little more fun to be around. You rock.

Your life never ceases to amaze me and I'm so glad I live in France where the French eat the wildlife and not the other way around.
You could suggest to Sinus Man that you feel his teeth with your toes... it could go one of two ways... :) x

Unknown said...

Was so carried away with Mushu's butt ant friend wanting to eat Phantom and Sinus's fetish that I forgot to say I love the Lola bottle you painted. :) x

Giggle - so here I sit during my lunch break at work, reading about your day and laughing out loud - only getting a few odd looks, but I don't care. Hope Phantom survives :) and as for Sinus Man - I agree with Catherine...you need to respond with something equally unappealing (like your toes!).

You know we all encounter ups and downs in our lives and bites and morning breath, or whatever. You are truly living proof that your attitude influences how you feel about your life - your positive, humorous take on life not only makes your own fun and enjoyable, but because you so willingly share it with us, it makes our lives better too - if even only for a moment as we chuckle about yours. Thanks for being you!

another hilarious insight into chez Fletcher-King!! I laughed at the idea of Sinus asking you to feel his teeth - that's hilarious but oddly I can see why he did! Poor Phantom - those ants sounds like vicious little buggers. Maybe you should all start smelling like mouldy chinese food and none of you will get bitten (or invited to parties, or have anyone sit beside you on the bus!)

oh and your perfume bottle is beautiful!

I came here expecting a good laugh - and you didn't disappoint me. OMG!!! You must have killer ants! And I do hope Sinus' teeth are NOT bloody. LOL. Love the perfume bottle although I am not a perfume person.

I have missed reading your blog.... Your posterior stories are great, and I am so sorry to hear of your ants! Loving ALL your cups... The icad project makes me want to join in but joining in to every project is what made me run from my blog for months... I will need a big cup of tea myself to sit with and enjoy catching up on your blog (like a hilariously quirky novel).
