It is stinking hot
not just a touch warm
not just gee it is a bit hot isn't it type hot
it is eating sorbet for breakfast hot
which is kind or glorious
because it feels all sorts of naughty
but to eat anything else would be madness
The humidity is worse than it usually is at this time of the year
as a result of ex tropical cyclone Oswald
who obviously took great offence at being given such a dud of a name
and thrashed and trashed the coastline of our great state for a week
taking lives, displacing thousands and
leaving a clean up that will take months to repair
we got off lightly with lots of plant debris and branches and palms down
buckets and buckets of drenching flooding rains
the pool resembled a raging waterfall as it overflowed
but then settled into a disgusting billabong as the storm moved on
Sinus has been busy clearing more and more of the debris each day
and we are starting to see our garden slowly re-emerge
Power was out for a day which somehow meant
that everyone in the family had to join me while I was trying to read
they arrived in my room to tell me the power was out
no kidding Sherlock!!!
followed by requests to eat all the ice cream to save it from spoiling
then an hour later asking when I thought it might come back on
like I would magically know!!!!
then ten minutes later asking what I was doing
like sitting and reading suddenly had a different name
followed by wanting to keep me company
because obviously reading wasn't doing it for me
to asking again when I thought the power might come on
because maybe in the last hour I had become psychic perhaps
at which point I started making up answers to their questions
some of which I thought were quite creative
though the eye rolls and the groans led me to believe
that perhaps Sinus and Phantom thought I was deluding myself as to my wit
cheeky beggars should have amused themselves
who I didn't get to during the week
I am thinking things should be back to normal over the coming day or two
especially as school has started for the year
which means that I can return to my normal painting and blogging schedule finally
not to mention catching up on blog visits and meeting some deadlines for work
well maybe... let's not get our hopes up on the meeting the deadlines part...
Happy weekend all...xx

it is just all kinds of cruel and unusual punishment to show ice cream to a friend who just ate her body weight in birthday cake, what?? are you TRYING to make me throw up??
The artwork and especially the red & white bowl are gorgeous but stop it with the food products for the rest of today, huh? I think I gotta go lay down.. ;o)
(Mom's unconscious, in a sugar coma already... )
You Amaze me!! Look at the detail in that spoon...wow I'm sure I have or used to have a spoon like that or someone did at least....I've seen it before.
I thought my family were the only ones to try the ice-cream trick for breakie....
However I would take yogurt, stick a spoon in the little cups then freeze it. Cupcake loved the Popsicle it made. People thought we were being naughty but we weren't.
Sorry about Oswald, glad you came out unscathed...
As for the questions, I bet every mother could relate verbatim to how their family is... I swear it happened every single time I had a bath...kid, hubby, two dogs descend... just as I was having that exhale moment....
Thanks for the memories!!
Excellent illustration!! As always!

That sorbet for breakfast thing is pure genius! We´ve been having tar melting temps too, although no Oswald fortunately.
Good to know you are ok and your garden recovering.
I am glad that you're OK, and no more damage done than learning you weren't psychic..lol Although it does sound as if you have a bit of clean up on your hands, I think sorbet in the morning sounds like an excellent idea, much better than cleaning. waving hi from the hills of North Carolina ♥
Well, what fun to have that for breakfast, but no electric--not so much. Interesting to hear how hot it is there when here in the state of Ohio in the U.S. we are having ice and snow...guess Mother Nature is in charge. Glad you are doing ok...and your sense of humor is intact! Love your paintings, as always...
I like the idea of sorbet for breakfast. Have to say I'll have to wait for that happy idea for a few more months.. round here is still chilly enough, that sorbet sounds a bit bone chilling that early in the AM. I was watching on TV the amazing amount of sea foam that old Oswald has stirred up in your neck of the woods. I think you're right that there's a bit of a grudge about the name choice therefore a little extra punishment for you all.
How funny and how typical its easy to see u are the "all knowing" one of the family , but if u were dare suggest that u were " the all knowing one " they would be horrified and then maybe start arguing about which one of them actually was ...does that make sense lol

'Love the idea of breakfast sorbet. You never cease to entertain with your hilarious posts! Glad your power is back on, and that your schedule is returning to normal. I won't deny a certain joy at the moment the door has closed behind the kids running to the school bus in the morning.
Your ability to draw intricate silverware boggles my mind!
Your ability to choose ice cream for breakfast on a VERY HOT DAY, just makes perfect sense!
God forbid it should go to waste? Perish the thought, crazy that!
Double talking kids, well that's what parenting is all about, don't let them out talk you!
And just s o you know I like how you maneuvered your art into all sorts of configurations here!
HPPF! Oh and gold star for being first in line tonight!
Man, oh man! What a week you've had! Hey, but I see you've highlight one of the bright spots here: several excuses to enjoy your sorbet :). That spoon is AWESOME and I am just in awe of your ability to portray form so well. A sweet and delicious little drawing.
So . . . read anything interesting lately?
Delicious looking breakfast sorbet, love that spoon! Bummer about all that cleaning, but I guess after that kind of storm, one appreciates if that is the worst...
I could eat some of that sorbet, it is so hot here too, too hot to eat. Love your post as always.
Sorry Oswald gave you all such a lot of work, sounds awful. Hope things are soon back to normal! Valerie
it's been so cold here I can't imagine eating sorbet at all never mind for breakfast but your illustration looks fantastic! Glad to hear you got through the storm with no serious damage -we've had no TV for 2 weeks since we moved (the satellite dish man comes today!) so I feel like I've no idea what's been going on in the world.
I love your illustrations. They are always positive and full of colours.
Thank you for sharing. Have a lovely PPF!!!
Hahaha at cyclone Oswald being offended at his name! :D
Glad you didn't cop too much damage. Our back fence fell down, but we got off pretty lightly too I suppose.
Sorbet for brekkie! Yummo.
Mmmh... A deliiously pretty illustration!
Well I LOVE the idea of sorbet for breakfast! Only here it's more likely to be porridge, since it is far too cold for sorbet!
The painting is gorgeous - and I'm SO glad that you're finally back on a roll again, both in your studio and your garden! :0)
Whenever I used to ask Mum what she was doing when I lived at home, she always had the same reply...'I'm standing on my head at the bottom of the garden!'
And it's been the same answer that my own kids always got from me, lol!
Hey, that's a great idea to have sorbet for breakfast to get through the humidity here. It really is bad at the moment. Glad you survived Oswald without too much damage! Love your illustrations, that spoon looks awesome!
OMGosh, Oswald, I do Know exactly what you are going through. I had caramel ice cream for breakfast this morning (after 21 days of Prayer/fast is over. . . wouldn't you know ice cream would be first, actually I hadn't had any in months and months, so. . . .it was due). Blessings, Janet PPF
Love all the drawings. Glad you out harm of Oswald, Have seen some horrible photos. Was hoping none that I saw being pulled off roofs were You and Yours. You have all had my prayers.
Ok, Name of the Silver Pattern Please. Wonderful!
Ice Cream for Breakfast-- Marvooooolusssss!
My Kids ate Pizza and Ice Cream for Breakfast.
Nothing in the Refrigerator was safe.
My only attempt to enjoy a Wine Cooler went South Real fast. Getting home on Friday and from the store and going to relax HA!
All the K&B were having enormous fun and laughing and they had been Grumpy! We never get to do anything - and 20 million questions later---
Then they were just estatic. ( all the while I am cooking Hamburgers ) They run to the kitchen and open the refrigerator for the third time. I get the question? Is there more? More What? They show me the empty box. Not one wine Cooler for MOM.
Never got a wine Cooler. Enjoy the Ice Cream! So, lucky it was still some left to draw and eat.

So sorry about the bad weather but really glad that you and your family are ok. We just had horrible devastation from a tornado not too far from us but luckily we just got lots of rain and some fallen branches.
Sorbet for breakfast sounds perfect to me. My spoon is not as beautiful as the one you painted but I definitely use mine for frozen yogurt in the morning.
Similar situation here for a couple of days. If you ever wonder what people do for entertainment who don't paint or read, now we know. They bug the living crap out of those who do know how to occupy themselves without electrically powered gadgets.
I am firmly in favor of sorbet for breakfast! Let's start a movement!
Wonderful painting and post!
Will have to see if breakfast sorbet is sold in the states now! :)
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

Mmm, looks like a delicious breakfast! During one of the long hurricane induced power outages here, the local ice cream shop gave away free ice cream until it was gone instead of letting it melt.
I had to look up billabong. What a strange word! Glad you are safe, if a bit soggy.
Something stange going on with the comment form. Let me try it again:

What a delicious post! Loved it!
Happy PPF!
Winter is my cup of tea and sorbet for breakfast sounds awesome.:) Great job in your illustrations. Happy PPF!
Sorbet for breakfast! wow have never tried that. Thank you for a great read and wonderful illustration.
Happy PPF, Annette x

I'm still giggling...love your Oswald party crashers. I would like some breakfast sorbet please. I promise not to interrupt your reading. ha ha! Charming!! Oh and beautiful work. I love that green/yellow color especially.
Tracey, each week I look forward to the ongoing story of Sinus and Phantom. This week the story took on a more personal meaning, because it reminded me of the times we've had "lights out" due to a storm. I'm glad the damage to your place wasn't horrible and that clean-up is doable. Your painting of the sorbet is just wonderful. All that delicious cold sweetness comes across well. Your ability to paint/draw silverware never ceases to amaze me.
Tracey your attention to the tiniest details in your art is amazing!! I sure wish it was that hot here instead of so bitter cold, but I certainly wouldn't want damaging storms and power outtages. We had our share of that this last year! Looking forward to seeing more beautiful illustrations now that you'll have more time.
I don't know how you found so much comedy in what must have been trying times but you definitely did.
Your art work is absolutely lovely.
Sarah @ A Cat-Like Curiosity
I come away cheered up after reading your posts. Happy to hear you didn't get to much damage done from that storm. Is this the storm that I saw on the news that brought tons of sea foam onto land? I've never seen that before. Amazing. HPPF
SOUNDS hot! Goodness!!
Well, you must be the mastermind of the house if everyone is coming to you for the answers!! :)
Wonderful to read your stories and delight in the Sorbet drawing. I just love getting to see your side of the world -- what a lovely window you provide for us. Hope the heat goes down and life gets easier for you -- thanks for sharing your art and sense of humor (in Portland, OR, USA, where it's sunny and 50 degrees and I believe we should have ice cream every day possible)
I'm sorry to hear about the disaster with Oswald and the light mishaps at your household. I'm glad to see that you haven't lost your wicked sense of humor. Our weather has been cold in the mornings and warm in the afternoons. However, I don't think I need an excuse to eat ice cream - LOL! Peace, my friend!
Eating sorbet anytime on a hot, humid day sounds wonderful. I am glad you and your family are ok after the cyclone. We have had some terrible ones in the east coast in the past couple of years.
lol sorry about your storm damage but your painting is perfect, as always!
Amazing detail. Love your work!
I am so very jealous of your heat wave. It's freezing here. Love your illustration, and I have been known to have nothing but ice cream for dinner. So glad you didn't have too much damage from the storm. xx
Glad to hear you will be back to normal soon.
That sorbet looks so refreshing| Here we have snow!
Love your artwork!
Glad you survived the storm Tracey! Beautiful sorbet, I must say that spoon is the focal point, beautifully detailed.
Yay Tracey..fabulous post as ever! Love your art..the spoon is so gorgeous ..and love the intricate deatails..sublime! i love sorbet..especially orange flavor!
HUgs and happy Creating

wow! sounds like quite an ordeal... but your artwork of the sherbert for breakfast is amazing!! such wonderful detail! coming from PPF...
Yummy sketch!! OH yes, sorbet is so refreshing too!
LOL re. Oswald's name...I wonder who actually names the cyclones. We were lucky and didn't lose power although I STILL had to hear "I'm bored" a gazillion times from Aaron during the days of horrendous weather. As if he expected me to somehow be his sole source of entertainment. Sheesh! lol
Glad to hear your yard is returning to normal. Have a great weekend. xx
Hello Tracey, I hate humidity so I can well sympathize with you on that one! Your art pieces are always so good, best wishes to you for the week-end and new week to come!
Hi Tracey! I left you a note on my last posts comment. (About my cup) So that you don´t miss it my friend ;)
LOVE idea of making up answers. I think I will adopt it as my new strategy for dealing with the deluge of questions that always seems to come when I am totally engrossed in, well...anything. My family will not be grateful to you for planting the idea in my head, but I am! Glad things are starting to get back to normal after the storm.
You made me laugh through your ordeal of no power nor peace to read. Yay that things will get back to normal for you. Enjoy your overl warm weather, while I shiver on this cold rainy winter day. Have a great weekend!
excellent illustrations here..thanks for your nice comment on my painting
You make that sorbet look so good i want some even though i just splurged on hot chocolate and am sitting with a fuzzy blanket thinking about turning the heat up!
Sorbet in the morning for breakfast sounds divine. It has been too cold here for that...but, this summer - I need to remember that!! :) Wonderful illustration!
Love love love the details in that spoon :) the shorbet looks yum but the colors make me drool more :)
Sorry to hear Oswald was wreaking such havoc but glad you came out of it fairly well. I just love your posts! Always so entertaining and your art is just gorgeous. Wow! Love those details and the way you color them. Funny to read how you are so hot there and we have record cold temps here. Snowing as I type this. :)
Sorbet for breakfast would be way yummy!! Sorry for the power outage - sitting and reading in the quiet would be a treat (provided everyone leaves you alone) - - -
Hey Trace, our temperature has shot up today and will stay until tomorrow but what a shame I didn't come to visit before brekkie! Sorbet would have been yummy...but it's okay because it's going on the menu for tomorrow!!! ;D
I'm studying the detail in your fantastic work and still I don't get it...no matter how I try. You are sooooooo talented...but then you would already know that if you were psychic so that's why I'm telling you just in case.
Glad you are all okay with Oswald paying a visit. So scary! :$
xoxo
you're making me crave for sorbet! I love your painting! Makes me salivate!
I already know that you guys were safe because of FB, but here I am to see you and your work in "person". ANY excuse to have sorbet or ice cream for breakfast works for me. In our house we have a tradition of having birthday cake for breakfast on the mornings after our B-days! And love your illustration of said breakfast!
I don't know WHAT it is about trying to read that brings everyone in and underfoot....
