My Kind of Sunset ....

Now I know this isn't my normal cleanish line drawing of tea or food
and you might think it is a bit of a stretch as a piece of work
based on the Sunsets prompt from Artist's Play Room this week
but it is actually my favourite Sunset

One of my all time favourite bands is a Brisbane band called Powderfinger
sadly now they have sailed off into the sunset called artistic differences and solo careers
but they put out this CD years ago and one of my favourite tracks is called
you guessed it... Sunsets
which is a lucky thing because I am not much of a sunset person in general...

When I saw the prompt I had that slight sinking sensation
that I may have to go and look at the sunset and maybe try to paint the bloody thing
which would have been a pain because by the time the sun is setting
my brain is usually in no sort of shape to paint anything

Sunset means the house is in that end of day uproar
as I am trying to put together a meal while refereeing some bizarre argument
between Sinus/ Phantom and or the dog
so the chances of nipping outside to record a glorious blaze of colour and light
is about as likely as waking up tomorrow with a body like a super model...

So while scrolling through the iPod picking the day's studio tunes
I remembered the whole Sunset thing
thank you Powderfinger for getting me off the hook
so I have painted this up while belting out the song at an unseemly volume
but as I have a tendency to sing along and am completely and utterly tone deaf
and equate enthusiasm and volume with singing ability
it is therefore best to play it at volume to drown out my dubious accompaniment

So here is my Sunset
Powderfinger style
as I warble off into the sunset of day 8 of AEDM
and link this up to APR ... xx

And she's a winner!!! I love it when the artists of APR think outside the box and really take the theme and run. It's great if someone wants to paint a sunset or use the colors of the sunset, but it truly brings joy to my heart when I see something unexpected, unusual or right out of left field. So, you win my impromptu prize my friend. I love the cover art and it's spectacular repainted by YOU. :o)

Hugs,
Jenn

Again in love with this two facets of work shown here: the writer and the visual artist. Very inspiring and a coherent style in both categories.

Brilliant twist to the theme Trace...but I've got a b***** sunset underway (which is amazing considering) so guess I'll get the wooden spoon prize! :$
Never heard of the band but will have to give it a whirl. Just think if they get so many hits you could be resonsible for them reforming? ;D

Fantastic cover art. :D

What a great moment of inspiration! I love it when that happens:) It's made for a completely different stance on the theme. Original and very cool. Great post

What a fantastic face you have painted, and this facial angle I did yesterday night (although mine is much smaller) and I wondered a bit about the shadings, and thanks you I now see it :)

This is something different looking for you! Actually, my sketch today looks more like yours than yours, ( well i hope you take that as a compliment and aren't insulted as you know i love all your sketches, tea cups and otherwise)..... I should have it posted on my blog in a few minutes......i will have to check your band out after work....

So odd not to see brightly colored tea cups and florals from you. I quite like this darker departure. Will definitely check out the band!

I like it. I wonder if I can find it on-line and see what it sounds like.

I'm also am 'enthusiasticly talented' singer, but as I live on my own this isn't a problem.

Brilliant interpretation! Could it have been possible we were singing at the same time? I was quietly singing in The Lair "Hallelujah" with K.D. Lang and was busted by The Hubs. I jumped. I have been told since I could sing that I am tone deaf and ruined any chance of my brother being able to sing. All I know is hyenas and the cats like to join in. ;)

Fab fab fab!! I love seeing 'outside the box' work because it helps me stretch my own imagination for another time.
Thank you for being an inspiration.......and for being bloody funny!! :0))) Mo x

I had to double check and make sure I was in the right place when I saw the art - wrong colors, wrong style, wrong subject - wassup with???? But then of course as I continued to read I was reassured that I was in the right place - who else would draw a song? :) And I see your sure hand in the drawing....it's fun to see a totally different side to your drawing. I on the other hand didn't stray from inside the box at all. Ah well....

great take on the challenge Tracey...precisely what makes challenges fun I think

I hardly see any sunrises, but sunsets tempt me often just outside our front door especially this time of year

Happy November

Nice little song there - I found it on YouTube. Quite the toe tapper.

Speaking of songs, today I had to write a Christmas song - for work! Cheesy and catchy was the brief. Well, my son couldn't stop singing the chorus so that might (or indeed might not) be a good sign!

Love the shift in artistic direction here (to coin your phrase!).

Love your reference to your singing voice! Made me laugh again. Okay what's all that stuff scribble along two edges, I want to know what naughtiness you've been up to! Besides getting out of using orange! I love your original take on things, and your wonderful artwork, too.

Trust you to come up with something this clever, you show off :)
We share singing (or terribleness of singing), maybe we should start a group. The off key geysers.
Great pic, looks better than the real thing.
I will get to all your posts asap, promise.

Powderfinger got you off the hook. I wanted so much to hear the song, but not allowed in my country, it said. You Aussies are a tight group with your music, I guess. ;)

I loved seeing a departure from your usual paintings. Wow! Dramatic and wild! I can picture you belting out a song. I can sing away here, too. Karma just puts her ears back and turns her head. ;)
