Jumping a Different Box....

Hugest thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes last week
it made me feel special despite it being a box jumper of a birthday
during the week I actually hit another milestone of sorts
and jumped into the past 300 followers box
which is a big two hands in the air dance around the room type deal for me

It was this time last year that I decided to get in and do the blog a bit more seriously
well maybe seriously isn't the right word
but I wanted to make it a bit more like me
and to give up trying to make it all professional
most importantly I decided to make art that I like, that reflects my life
and stop trying to do it all "properly" if you know what I mean

at the end of the day I used to find it all a bit tiring
blogging used to remind me of doing the half dressed school drop off
you know where you put on a nice shirt, tidy your hair etc
but on the bottom half you are in pj's and bed socks
and you spend the whole time praying nothing happens
so you will be forced to get out of the car....

although one day I did see it happen when a student couldn't get her bag out of the trunk
and the poor mum had to get out and help her, but she handled it with complete style
despite the fact that she was wearing bright pink pj pants covered in purple love hearts
which clashed with her oh so perfectly business suited top half
and people were honking and laughing
she bowed to the crowd and drove off with head held high
she was my hero for days after that

anyway blogging used to feel exactly like that
I was trying to show the world the neat , tidy respectable me
which really is an illusion on a good day... some may even say a delusion
and one day I was totally over it all and figured I had nothing to lose
I did the equivalent of doing drop off in full pj's ,complete with bed head
and it was hugely liberating and fun and easy
never under estimate the allure of easy
I love easy and there is no way I would go back ... not for a minute
So anyway
a year ago I set a bit of a goal
well not really a goal, because just typing that word makes me hyperventilate a bit
more a wouldn't it be nice if this time next year I could hit the 200 mark type thought
so it is very cool that I am over that... and to celebrate I am going to do a give away
my 302 followers give-away...
and the 302 thing is important because if I mention bodily functions too much
I seem to lose one or two followers
which is cool, because lets be honest there is only so much snot we can all handle
but I wanted those two extras as a buffer
in case I decide to write about rampant hay fever again soon

The four paintings up for grabs are the four I have posted here
and are all ink and watercolour, and are originals
they are unmatted and on paper that is 13cm x 19 cm
which is about 5 in x 7 1/2 in I think so they are only little
but you should be able to pop them into a frame easily to pretty them up
and all you have to do is say in your comment that you want to be in the draw
I will attempt to work a random number thingy
but failing that then names in a hat will suffice
and if you link up to this in some way I will throw in an extra entry for you
just let me know in an email or in the comment section and I will take it from there
I will close entries at midnight next Thursday and announce the winners soon after

thanks to all of you for your support and being part of the fun
you are appreciated  and good luck ... xx

P S  happy Friday to all the Paint Party Friday people
PSS ... Facebook people who don't have a bog...
just message me that you would like to enter,
or pop a comment on the status update and I will enter you in there...xx

the last two posts links are....

Congratulations on 302! (I have no aspirations for any such figure.) I don't mind the hayfever/bodily functions chat but the chicken tongue business makes me a bit squeamish. I love your "everyday" art, and it IS collectable!

the half-dressed school run is such a good analogy to the whole concept of blogging. I totally agree about making it more about the real you and what makes you tick and less about what a 'professional' website/blog should perhaps be. I've been so lax with my blogging the last while (there's so much going on in the background at the moment which I'm bursting to tell folk but can't just yet and it's been distracting me from art and blogging) but I really want to start blogging more frequently than I have been. Congrats on getting over 300 - I'm stuck at 130-odd and don't really know how to increase it!
I'd love to own one of your original artworks so please count me in for the give away!!

Well, you got me curious there, so I actually went back to the start of your blog in 2010 to see the difference. And you're right, this is so much more "real" to read and way more fun. Loved the story about the lady with the pink pj's. And I love your work, especially the 2 top ones. Count me in for the draw, would love to win!

okay, I just commented with the wrong login, so now I'm logged in with the right one: the above comment from jerden is actually me: denthe ;-)

By this time tomorrow you should have 400 followers!!
Yes, I rather love the idea of owning an original Tracey Fletcher :0) Trouble is, which to pick???
Hmm... I'm thinking those pears would look lovely in my kitchen!
Good luck everyone :0)

I would love to be in the draw! Thank you. For Fall Fearless, we use www.random,org, Easy and free! So it has never occurred to me to tidy up my top half when I go to school drop off in my p.j.s --- great idea! Especially since I often take a detour to the supermarket to pick up a few things. I wonder if they'd think I was even MORE crazy if I got half dressed...

Vicki Holdwick said...

Oh goodness! I'd love to win any one of these lovelies.

I so identify with the pj Mom, except I don't even pretend to be dressed on the top part. I frequently drop my grandgirls off at school with bedhead and jimjams. No biggee!

I'm kind of inept at the Google follower thing so I hope I did it correctly! I swear, I am going to take a picture of my stack of bowls and send them to you (because I definitely couldn't draw them.) I went bonkers when I found them at That Magic Place, my six year old immediately broke one, I went apoplectic and bought two more and I might even go back and get a set of backups for the others!

aimee said...

and by the way... thank you for writing what you did about the 'half dressed life'... beautifully said. i needed that today.

Excellent post and work. I can almost see that lady in her pj'z. How funny. The other day I walked out of the house with my pink garden clogs on and didn't realize I had them on. Congrats on your blog followers. I am happy to be follower #308. Thanks for this wonderful giveaway as well. I love all of the paintings but the floral painting really tugs at my heart strings. Hi, I'm down the bottom here and would love a chance to win some of your gorgeous artwork. Love the Pj story. Found myself caught out when picking my teenage daughter up from a party at 3am. Said daughter's friends wanted me to come and join in the party. My daughter would not come out. I was wearing my comfy brushed cotton monkey print pjs, and my Ugg boots. There was little chance of me getting out of the car to drag my daughter out of the party. Thank goodness for mobile phones...Not sure what I was worried about, all her friends were plastered, I could have just flounced in and said I'd been to a fancy dress party....um, thought for next time... :)

My whole life is full of pink pajamas with purple hearts (metaphorically speaking that is - don't even own pjs - wear shorts and tshirts to bed). I did once have to get out of the car and take my grandson into school (can't remember why) and I wasn't wearing a bra under my tshirt - folded my arms across my chest and held my head high. Anyway - love your paintings and would like to win them.
