Why School Holidays Do My Head In Part 2....

The good news is I have made it to Friday of week one of the Spring holidays
bad news is that the holidays have continued as they started
board games have become blood sports
both husband and daughter are under a life ban from the Wii
having possession of the tv remote has taken on life and death proportions
the whole house seems to have been transformed
into a sort of high stakes obstacle course of cups, plates, game pieces, dvd's and rubbish

my nerves are now completely shot
and even the dog has acquired a nervous twitch
which is rather unfortunate as he also has hay fever
so now we have twitchy sneezes
and you never know which way to move to avoid the avalanche of doggy snot

The first three days of the break consisted of Sinus and Phantom
annoying the bejesus out of each other... and me
to the point where I actually sent each to a different floor of the house
and told them they couldn't return until they heard the oven timer go off
now I may have done the sneaky extending of the time a few times
but it seemed to give them enough space that they calmed down to a tolerable level
great news for me, not so great for the mutt

They seem to have decided poor Mushu is to be the focus of their combined need to torture
they have discovered how endlessly funny it is to hide from him
then jump out and scare the pillicks out of him as he walks past
they have crept up on him while he is asleep, hidden his favourite toys
and blamed him for everything from the constantly emptying fridge
and the mess that is slowly but surely consuming the whole house
not to mention that he hasn't been doing the dishes
from any of the 50 million meals and snacks he is apparently eating

It would appear that he is also managing to drink
litres and litres of pine coconut drink
so much of this stuff has been consumed
I have been half expecting spontaneous bouts of hula dancing
I sort of heard mutters about how funny it would be to see the dog in a grass skirt
and mentions of coconut bikinis
but I am hoping that his explosive snot filled sneezing
may in fact save him from that indignity
I could possibly intervene
but at this stage I am more concerned it will mean they will turn on me
so I am throwing him under the bus people
and he can fend them off as best he can
happy Friday everyone... especially my friends over at PPF...xx

Holiday torture fun has been discussed in these last two posts...

OMG Tracey, you threw your poor dog under the bus to save yourself! rotflmao...::shaking head::...I say take the dog and lock yourself into your craft room, hopefully you have a bathroom adjadcent to it and hide from them! Actually sounds like you are having as good a time as they are, being sly and elongating the timer and all! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

I agree! Take snot sneezer and hid away in your studio and lock the door! LOL!

I love that you gave them a time out!!! ROFL! Hope you make it through the rest of vacation! ;)

Hahaha...Spring holidays begin next week for me, roll on Monday. I hope my children fight less than yours, though given the drama that has taken place tonight I am a little scared!! :)

Love your drawing, your line work is amazing!!

I want to scoop your snotty sneezy dog up and cuddle him and 'there, there' him - poor wee soul being the butt of your families jokes and scares! I can imagine him jumping as our tend to do when they get a fright - poor Mushu must need valium for his nerves at this stage as well as hay fever tablets!
I laughed at the idea of him drinking all that juice (Which sounds lovely, by the way and great illustration of the carton) and not doing the dishes - I have a vision of him standing on a stool by the sink with a flowery pinny on up to his little doggy arm pits in soap bubbles!

Poor traumatized dog, lol!
In our house, dinner is ready when the fire alarm goes off, as apposed to the oven-timer! Maybe you should try drinking some of that rather yummy looking drink - only sneak a shot of Vodka in it, lol! Maybe one of those a day will see you through the holidays ;0)

Loving the sound of that juice... great illustration.

Who won the epic game of monopoly btw?

You are going to be SO lonely when everyone is back at work/school - just you and sneezy!!!! Ok, maybe I don't mean lonely!!!

Ahh... it's all good fun really - thank you for keeping me entertained!!!!

i homeschool my boys so there's no such thing as school holiday episode in my house. ha!ha! although from time to time, they get a day or two when i just let them spend more time playing online games... actually, to keep all of us sane! melinda alpha #35

Funny real life! now I remember why I prefer to walk strays and don't have a snot sneezer of my own! I do like your art this week.

Oh - poor Mushu! I agree with Sandra, above. Make a smoothie for yourself with a splash of vodka! I have the same experience with school holidays - I am always so glad when school starts up again! Happy PPF!

Sister Girl, I feel ya! Fall Break starts next week here. The boy is a breeze, it's his father who decides to hang around the house and annoy the snot out of us.

Sounds like you and Muushu need to sneak away by yourselves for some bevvies and treats. May your next post be a drawing of clean dishes and pretty drinks!

Your house sounds not unlike mine... Where the adults are the biggest instigators!! Poor mushu.... That whole story has the makings of a Disney film in which he would be the star!!!

Glad to hear it's chaos in someone else's house at school holiday times too. Enjoy them though as they grow up so quickly. Mine's 19now. There is still chaos but just a different type of chaos. Have fun and keep thinking... they'll all be back at school soon. :-)

I'm feeling so smug as I sit here in the Northern Hemisphere where kids are just starting new school year and mothers everywhere are secretly breathing sights of relief! :) Very entertaining post and fun paintings!

Sounds quite lively at your place. I think you and dog should have a time out in your studio while the others fight it out on the wii. Love reading your posts and getting a glimpse in to Tracey Land. Love! Happy PPF

Your pine coconut drink box is wonderful, Tracey. If it is pineapple and coconut, I bet it tastes wonderful too. Enjoy those crazy days with the children. It ends all too soon and you are left with DH and dog. Hopefully, that will also be an enjoyable stage of your life. Mine has been. More time for art for one thing.

I love visiting and seeing what your family is up to each week. I taught for so many years and remember how glad all of the Moms were when vacation was over. Also, remember how much I looked forward to them.

I know if I was still in the classroom, the kids would LOVE reading about all of your family's adventures. Ever thought of writing a children's book? (Minus the vodka, of course)

You do get a vacation from the school vacation, right!?!

Thanks for visiting over at Painted Thoughts—and I'll be back to make sure you're still alive after the "vacation" is over!

Poor ole Mushu.. you do need to escape the madness. :) At least it ends soon. Love your drawings. The different between Jam and Jelly is A LOT OF WORK. The Jelly we had to spend hours steaming a five gallon bucket of grapes to get 2 gallons of juice to make the Jelly. The pear Jam only took peeling the pears or fruit, slicing and in a hand crank mushing it so you had texture and then making the Jam, much less time involved and more texture and less sugar needed. Here the wiggly stuff is called JELLO. Hope that helps. Thanks for your comment. :)

Our dog causes the problems with the Wii- he takes the controllers and chews them up. But I think he was just mad that we kept stepping on him when he would plant himself right where we were playing...

Holy cow, how long is your spring break? Is it like our summer and it's for 3 months??? I usually like our break but I have to admit, if I had kids torturing the dog...wait. I did! I kinda took pictures of it. I found my dog in the cupboard once....I think it's ok to toss the dog under the bus for the sake of your sanity!! Hang in there..

LOL! I just love your stories they always make me laugh! I can totally relate - although my girls aren't school age yet, but when Mr Mac takes time off from work, our whole house hold is in an uproar.

I love that you sneakily extended time out - I am going to have to keep that one for when I am having a really bad day!

Can't stop giggling at the mental image of a twitchy snot-flinging hula-dancing Mushu. Poor little guy. Poor Tracey.

Haha, I can totally relate to the nerves being shot and not being able to do a decent half hour's painting session.☺ One more week to go, hang in there, you can do it!
