I have never claimed that my dog is a brain surgeon
in fact I think I have a healthy understanding of his many and varied limitations
which are usually far outweighed by his complete and utter adorableness
but yesterday he took his ability to make me shake my head in wonder at his stupidity
to a whole new level
In his defence I may not have started his day too well
as I may have spilled just a little blueberry tea on him
it was cool at the time, and I thought it gave him a rather dashing air
but he was rather unhappy, not at the fact that he had a strip of bluish purple hair
but that I had dropped it dead centre on his back and he couldn't get at it to lick it I think
and if that wasn't enough it was grooming day
Not that he is smart enough to remember what is happening
and he greeted the groom with love and adoration
he sat excitedly on the table, licking her hand and generally being cute
until she started the clippers and did the first run down his back
and you could see the shock in his eyes
the OMG how did I not see that coming
He manfully shook and whimpered his way through
the gentlest grooming in the history of the world
putting his shiver on and trying to plead for it all to be over
with his most mournful eyes gazing up at me, but
in no time at all he had gone from woolly mammoth to spring lamb
On his feet hitting the ground he forgot all about the indignities he had suffered
and reverted to bounding around like he had springs in his feet
and generally doing the equivalent of doggy cartwheels
he raced straight inside to try to grab his doggy crack off the shelf
he will do almost anything for these mini marrowbones
and on getting his treat for being such a wimp
he gleefully bounded out the door
with a leap that would have won him the gold medal for high jump
he sailed through the air about three feet off the ground
didn't quite nail the landing but it looked impressive none the less
The next four hours consisted of him running around like a mad thing
jumping up on the sofa ...jumping off the sofa
jumping up on the bed while I am trying to have a nanna nap
jumping off the bed
jumping back up on the bed and depositing a smelly toy on my face
jumping off the bed in the hope I will throw said smelly toy
jump back up on the bed and be totally surprised that there is a toy up there
play with the toy on the bed until I give up on a nap
follow me downstairs... bouncing the whole way
bring every single toy he has ever owned inside ....one at a time
wanting me to look at how handsome he looks with it
run out of studio and deposit toy where ever it drops and go find a different one
trip over all toys on the way out...then again on the way back in
see if I think he lookscute with the cow/ dinosaur/ manky duck toy in his mouth
then repeat the procedure with the pink chicken/ weird fish/ purple alien type toy
tripping on them on the way out, and again on the way back in...
seriously he tripped over every toy....every time
this went on for hours!!!!
Eventually all the acting like a puppy caught up with him
and he fell asleep on the sofa on his back like a toad squashed on the road
snoring so loudly we had to turn the volume up on the tv
Today his natural sloth like state has reasserted itself
helped by the fact that there is a cold, decidedly non Spring like wind
which means that he is tucked up on the sofa snuggled into his hoody
or perhaps he has simply forgotten that anything happened yesterday
after all he is looking puzzled as to why all the toys
are inside and lined up down the hall way
I'm not cleaning them up just yet as it is messing with his head I'm sure
which is totally making my day...
Happy Friday everyone, especially PPF er's ...xx
This week has been a frenzy of posts so here they all are...

Your doggie is so so so so cute!
Cute doesn't have to be "brain surgeon material"....
I love your drawings. Everything perfection here!!!! HPPF!!!
Hahahaahaha, my mom has a dog like yours!!! What is said dogs name? What a cute snack pack with both kinds of clippers! Hahahahaha you made my day!
~Donna~
Obviously he was much too weighted down with all that hair to be able to dash about with abandon but in his new, lighter, freer state, he could release his inner rambunctiousness. Fun drawing for today - it totally captures your day....just needs his little paw print on it! :)
He is such a cutey pie. Still giggling thinking of him bouncing like a spring lamb. Maybe I should get the guinea pig shaved, he might actually move then.
Love the pic. When I first saw it I thought you had clipped the Mr Sinus, all sorts of things went through my mind!!
Von
Mushu, what a ham. That dog should win the prize for ways to make you laugh. I'm loving the fact that he can't remember where all his toys came from. Brain surgeon, no. Too cute for words, yes. We had a name for a cat we had once, we called her "a box of rocks and a grapefruit" because she was certainly smarter than just a box of rocks. ;o)
love me
You are a brave woman to stay and watch. I drop mine off at the vet and she always looks so happy! I don't stay to find out. What a cutie.
omg I burst out laughing at the "totally didn't see that coming" remark...poor dogs, they are so trusting aren't they, but he got you back with not letting you nap! He is a sweetie, and I would be hard to resist those eyes! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
At least he has some hair left Trace...Mufftypup was shaved!
He looks positively handsome. Imagine Muffins behaviour with having her first brazillion! Every time to wind blew she whizzed around wondering what the %$#@ was happening. Yeah...you get the picture!
She's wrapped in her fleece coat as I type because I just can't stand to witness the shivers and shakes along with the imploring eyes ~ it kills me :$
It's funny to hear Mushu loves Schmackos too. Muffin doesn't always eat them but prefers to walk around with one in her mouth until she finds a suitable hidding place...namely behind cushions, under her bedding and even tucked into clothes lying around! I've very often gone to put on a sweater from a chair...only to have a schmacko attached to my armpit!
Love the painting as always ;D
Yep, our hair does make us fatter (lol) or at least feel like it. So funny. I remember the days of turning up the TV b/c of doggie snoring. . . oh I the legs running too while sleeping. Dogs are so adorable. Love the illustration and story. Blessings, Janet PPF
Poor little guy hehehe but he looks cute. My dog used to do that too, the running crazy thing, so funny.
Your art as always... fun and fabulous :o)
Another cute post for PPF. I love your drawings/paintings and stories that go with them. All that weight shaved off gave him all that bouncing energy. LOL
Our dog is so smart its scary. we now have to spell things and she is learning how to spell BATH and can hide faster then you can spell it. lol HPPF.
Your dog is just so super cute, though a brain surgeon dog might be convenient, too, and profitable... well, maybe not, people are so prejudiced... Thank you for sharing your cutie's escapades and your beautiful art!
Love your doggy story, and the love of Shcmackos seems to be universal, too - it was the fave food of my Scruffy! Great painting, too. Valerie
Your dog is adorable - they really are masters of the poor me, i've got the weight of the world on my shoulders sad eye look aren't they! Anytime I groom mine myself, our wee girl dog does the whole shivering and trying to jump into your arms to make it stop thing as if we were torturing her instead of simply trimming her fur! I love when they're freshly trimmed though and being white they're so much easier to keep clean! I'm glad to hear that it isn't just our two that I thought might be missing a brain cell or two - sometimes they're so clumsy, bless!
Great illustration too!
Awwww! Your poor little pooch. :) I actually have to leave the dog styling salon so my pooch Kika doesn't seek comfort in me because she's not still for a second. As soon as I leave she calms down and they can trim her. :) Love your illustrations as always. :)
Your dog is a real cutie, at least he didn't try and get mud or dust imbedded in his new clean short coat, like my friends dog does after a cut. I love your drawings.
Great story it made me chuckle. Loving your drawings. Happy PPF, Annette x
He must have felt so good after his grooming/clipping experience. Sounds hilarious the jumping up and down to get your attention, sorry you didn't get to nap...probably couldn't even when he napped because the snoring was too loud!...love your drawings.
Oh my goodness, I remember these days well!! Only I had two doing that at one time.... craziness. I can see it all as you describe it!! I used to swear they gave them something to make them that spunky... I guess like anyone who has a good haircut they feel like celebrating... He is such a cutie too!! Love dogs... babysitting a little toy poodle we get about once month for a week or more!! I love little white dogs too!!
Great illustration, I still have a pair of those claw clippers!!
Hugs Giggles
your illustrations are great!

How to get your postal address???
oh, you crack me up...i love the painting of the grooming tools...xo...one thing i don't miss about my little lari lu...she shivered the whole time we groomed her and couldn't wait for it to be over...poor thing...it was traumatizing...spirit on the other hand, loves to be bathed and brushed...no clippers needed but a central vacuum would be nice...xo hope you have a great weekend and that it warms up!
Oh this is just the best post- and your doggie is adorable and so are your drawings. Happy PPF.
Ahh...He is SO cute! And he looks positively UNIMPRESSED in the photo on the right, lol! You don't even need to pick up your brushes or pens - you have the ability to paint a picture with words alone! :0)
Oh, the way he looks in that second picture says it all! So cute! I can totally see him laying on the sofa like a toad after all that jumping and playing around. Lovely illustrations too!
Hahaha! I love the part at the end where you 'mess with his head'.
Our beloved pups definitely have the weirdest habits...but that's what we love most, right? My darling sweet Ellie, a toy fox terrior, has to have her "cup of coffee" every morning, first thing, like me. It's a special biscuit dog treat but that's what we call it, and that's what she loves best about each morning! Aaaah, coffee for us, tea for you and your sweet pup! :)
Your descriptive abilities are amazing and so fun filled! I got tired for him and for you just listening to all the back and forth! But could picture it all. Love your paintings of the tools of the trade, too!
Oh how I love doggies!! Bath time for us sounds very similar except we have a 70 pound dog bounding around, rounding up toys and jumping on the bed! Yours does look quite dashing with a fresh cut. And to think you get to do this all over again in a few weeks!
What a cute dog. Your paintings are all so good. Glad you were able to be so productive.
Hi very good job and so meticulous and retailer as always, your dog is beautiful. Saludos
First,,,let me say I am a BIG fan of your artwork...let´s get that out of the way...BUT,,,,you had me ROLLING on the floor with this blow by blow description of this grooming day...
Plus, I had once gotten HOT PINK on my BEIGE cat and he told me how embarrrasssing it was ,,,as all the other cats were making fun of him and my neighbor even asked ,,,when is he getting his piercings,,,another asked if he was getting ready to run away and join a punk band...atleast you sweeeeet doggie could get it shaved off. Speaking of which,,,he is soooo WHITE. My neighbor has a twin of your dog and he is always so drab white. I think he needs to go to your groomer:) Thanks for always entertaining me:):) wishing you a happy weekend!!
What a hilarious dog you have! Sounds like hours of entertainment. LOVING your art! I want that juicy fruit gum painting. Love your charming blog as always, happy PPF!

Lovely painting and a cute dog!
Adorable dog and now very fashionable with blue hair ~ such a cutie ~ Lovely fun post and delightful creations ~ (A Creative Harbor)
I love the drawing/painting of the doggie grooming paraphernalia. And poor dear. What a shock your poor pup had that it imprinted the rest of his day!
Isn't it fun to have a "dog of very little brain"? Mine is not the sharpest tool in the shed either.
Fantastic illustrations, as usual!
So sweet! When we bathe our pup, she gets all wild and runs, jumps, skips and everything else someone would do if they were on drugs...haha! She doesn't love getting groomed...loves the bath but hates the groomer.
Lovely Illustrations! Happy PPF!
hehehe what a cute little character!!! :0)
I love how you can illustrate anything and make it look really really cool and bring it too life! Right down to the packets of juicy fruits!!! LOVE it!!!
Cute doggy and cute story. Our pup is 4 1/2 months old and hasn't visited the groomer yet but he hates when I try to bathe him! Love your art as usual. Happy PPF and have a great weekend!
Oh my what an adorable little guy even with all his doggy antics. Maybe purple just wasn't his colour... Happy PPF.
OMG, I'm exhausted from laughing so hard and I feel like I've tripped over every toy myself! What an awesome illustration, both in paint and word, I LOVE it and your dog is ADORABLE!!! Deb
i hope your tea did not stain him! the smelly toy thing in your face - yep we have those - in fact just took two out of the dryer because I couldn't take it anymore!
cheers, dana
Gotta love a dog that makes a bigger mess than the kids. I've finally got the kids trained to pick up after themselves but it will never work with our sweet Lily - goofy dog!
Hi Tracey have u on my google reader and love your blog , cutie little furbaby , had to pop in to ask , does your furbaby get brown tearing from the eyes , if so do u use anything to keep it under control ... noticed none on him...

LOL, I got so caught up in your hilarious doggie tale that I almost forgot to look at your (always) wonderful sketch!
Too friggin' funny... the jumping off and on the couch and the snoring was hilarious... my parents have a dog that does exactly the same thing!! Especially for treats. :-) Lovely artwork Tracey... xox
SO fun! Only you would see and capture the beauty of grooming tools:-) You have had a prolific week - enjoyed your other posts as well!
Great posts and beautifully illustrated. You have even made a packet of juicy fruit into a beautiful artwork! Not to mention dog grooming tools:)

Hahaha, I think our dog is as smart as yours!! She has that exact same look. And is just as brave and courageous. Your boy is so gorgeous though. it makes up for a lot. :)
