See these beets
they aren't just any old beets
they are Sinus beets
Yes my dear husband, Sinus is from this moment on to be known as
Farmer Sinus
not to be confused with Sinus Farmer
because I don't think I would like that very much at all
not even sure how you would farm a sinus... harvesting snores perhaps
or fields of tissues....
anyway so here they are
in all their glory direct from the back yard vegie patch
lovingly tended by the man himself
who checks on his babies every day after work
I would have drawn the snow peas
but they get eaten as fast as they grow on the vine
farmer's prerogative apparently
and I can't show you the carrots
because they are beyond mutants
they would give you nightmares
they still taste good, but boy do they look freaky
and there is something rather offputting about eating something
that looks scarily like the a giant's arthritic toes... with bad hang nails
the beets however are a delight not just to draw and paint, but also to eat
I am planning a beet and feta tart over the weekend now they are duly drawn
So beets it is for the APR challenge In Your Backyard
and a big thanks to Farmer Sinus for growing such wonderful specimens...
maybe the next crop of carrots will also be pretty enough to draw
if we are game to try them again that is....
Can I also take a moment to thank Rita Barton
for this wonderful award... very much appreciated...xx
My last few posts have been...

I love fresh beetroots. I love them roasted yummo. but your tart/pie sounds interesting, are you gunna share the recipe?
On the carrot front, your soil will be too rich, that will be why your carrots are grown mutant extra arms. Tell Farmer Sinus to plant them in a patch of poorer soil next time and they'll send down one long tap root searching for the nutrients.
Have fun reaping what he sows.
xox
you've gotten the beet down for sure! i adore them and your tart sounds divine! enjoy and thank you for exercising caution about the giant's toenails...ewww
Hi Tracey,
You are such a fun read and your art is always lovely.
I love beets, especially fresh from the garden ones.
xoxo
Can't beet this drawing! I want to see your mutant carrots!
What a beet-utiful (sorry, hehe)colour you achieved. Did you use beet juice? Those little beggars bleed enough when cut to almost 'milk' them eh, haha. :0)
The beet sketch is wonderful - however, I have never liked to eat them. I was eating apple slices with peanut butter (a favorite lunch of mine) when I read this and the image of Sinus Farmer made the apple head for my sinus! Almost came out the nose I laughed so hard. So I will not read your blog with food in my mouth anymore!!!
Congratulations on such fabulous beets and drawings of them. A good excuse to get out the purply shades of paint. My beets look like carrots. Why? I think the ground is made of concrete!
xx
Love the beets. We bake them here, yummy, also eat them raw, double yummy...congrats on the award.. :)
Can´t beet them! Fab piece...congrats on your award too!
I love your beets, pretty enough to eat! :)
I was growing rainbow carrots and was excited at how big they were getting but they must have smelled so good that a gopher found them and ate them all. :(
Yummy, yummy, yummy all around. I LOVE beets. Not too popular in my house, more for me. xx
I have beets (that I don't check on every day) .... maybe I should check on them :)
lovely color combo in beets - you've captured their lusciousness
Lovin those beets and I was lucky enough to see them in person. It was you that got me into growing beets as well, so I have that to thank you for too. At least sinus gets his carrots to grow long, mine grow like beets! Gorgeous bright colours.
Von.
I love beets, beet juice, beet salad, beet drawings like yours :) Just gorgeous.
I have loved growing beets in previous years - surely missed growing this winter though ( new garden in the works)... we usually pickle them! Fun drawings :-)
Gorgeous combination of colours. In all my life I've only ever known of beet pickled in vinegar (yuck) which seems to defeat the object of growing lovely fresh veg.
Ooh I just LOVE beetroot! Especially when it's pickled - Yum! There would have been no time to paint them in my house. I would have eaten them before I had a chance! I once ate a whole jar of pickled beetroot and was alarmed when I found out that too much of it can turn your wee pink, lol! Am loving your paintings. Now I'm off to raid the fridge :0)
Love your beets, both your Framer Sinus' real beets, and your drawings of them! I'm actually not very fond of eating them, but these look just too juicy! But I'd really really like to see your mutant carrots! :)
Great beets but you have my curosity up about the scary carrots...picture needs to be forthcoming!! lo waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
Lovely beetroots! I'm not a fan but my husband is. Great to have your own garden produce. We haven't much luck here. Have a good weekend!
Not much of a beet fan but am definitely a fan of your drawing. My favorite part about this drawing is the meticulous blending of shades of red/maroon/pink to make such a totally appealing veggie. Amazing use of color....
Those are some gorgeous beets, good for Sinus and the garden wench! I'm loving the idea of the sinister carrots too, it must be kinda exciting to eat scary looking produce, more fun. Hehehe.
Hugs,
Jenn
Fantastic vibrant beets with wonderful blending of colours.
Who knew that beets could be a work of art? Obviously you (LOL)
Farmer Sinus will be thrilled and fired up now with all this attention to his produce. ;D
I craved beets whilst pregnant with my son and although he's not sure why he cringes now at the sight of them...but I'm not about to tell him!
Enjoy you tart...whoops sorry that should read...enjoy your tart!!!
How lovely, and the beets and feta tart, scrumptious sounding!!

it always amuses me that I used to HATE beets. [and lima beans, which I've yet to learn to love...]
then, as though I had had a memory transplant, I embraced the little monkeys and I, too, am truly in love with them...
this post is so great, well, they all are great, I mean this one is just such a hot-air balloon ride full of laughs and snorts!!
xoxo
Have I told you lately that I love you?!?
These past few posts are fantastic - I might have to relinquish my title as "Queen of Puns" if you keep this up! Just when I think you couldn't possibly be any funnier... You are. I thought I was going to pee my pants when you talked about the "blue rinse gang" a few posts down! (That actually might be oddly appropriate, now that I think about it! Ha!)
You are too too good!
xo
Kristin
I love your work - so much expressions. I just sowed some seeds today. Not beets, but hopefully I will have some bok choy, pak choy, coriander, basil, carrots and spinach. I love the warmer weather :). Hope you are having a nice weekend, Ev
OH come on - DO show show us the carrots! If only to make me feel better about our harvest of exactly TWO pinky-sized carotene sticks. Your beets are lovely. But now you also have to share a recipe!
So he's a beet farmer now, just like Dwight Schrute from The Office! These are lovely beets, though. He did well!
Gorgeous beets! Kudos to you both. Very little in life is better than eating peas right off the vine... Must see those carrots!!!
mutant carrots - haha! but i know what you mean - i've had a few of those myself over the years. love your painting - as always your work is wonderful!
Okay! I am really upset with blogger!! It wasn't just one post--I have missed several of your last posts that never showed up in my reader. Grrr! And I went through five days of blogs this last weekend and have been keeping up--never saw these.
Anyways, I'm glad you like beets. You can have all mine, thank you--LOL! I'll pass. But the mutant carrots is another story. ;)
Now I have to catch up on all the blogs and artwork I missed.
