Jenn over at The Artists Play Room
set this week's topic as
juicy
which should be pretty straight forward
I figured I would hit the fruit shop and find some suitable fruit and get drawing
but turns out it I am a couple of weeks away from juicy being all over the place
Mangoes not in season yet,
papaya is everywhere, but I wouldn't describe papaya as juicy
ditto the rockmelon and pineapple
the blueberries looked sad
strawberries were everywhere but we have been having so many
that we are in danger of ending up like that girl in Willy Wonka
and I know that she turned into a blueberry
but I can imagine us as strawberry people floating around
we are so awash that every time I blow my nose there are pips
I actually like the idea of a strawberry without pips
and don't tell me that raspberries would fit that bill because raspberries have hairs
which is all sorts of wrong in my book
up there with hairy butt peaches ...
gives me the shivers just thinking about that season starting up again soon
so I have decided to stick in safe territory
and go with something without pips, fur, hair and is totally in season
Juicy Fruit gum
I have fond memories of my grandmother handing this out so we didn't get car sick
when we went for Sunday drives
and when I went looking for some to paint
they now have a new packaging of course
and oddly it seems to have grown as well
so maybe it is extra juicy...
Something else that is juicy is that my treasured friend
who I have now known for a scary sounding 28 years
can't believe it was that long ago that we started college
anyway, my fellow Bundilla Babe, Melissa
is finally putting her extraordinary photos and take on life into a blog
You can find it at Silver Linings Studio
and I can't tell you how much I love that she is doing this
and I know you will love her and her work as much as I do
The final bit of juiciness
is that the second issue of Featuring is now available for pre-order
I loved the first issue and just know the second is going to be great as well
head over here to get your order in
juice on people...xx

I love your work so much, as well I could read what you write all day, I'll go check out your friend right now, OK,
We're leaving our season of juice and you're just entering yours ... But you're right about the gum - ALWAYS in season ...Too cute!
Loved this! When I was a little girl, I had a great-uncle who always brought gum for us kids. He had an unusual name which we had trouble pronouncing, so to us he was always the Juicy Fruit Man :)
Juicy sketch, Tracey! I've always been a Wrigley's PK gal myself but I didn't mind the occasional Juicy Fruit. Great take for APR.
Your friend, Melissa, is an awesome photographer!
Have a lovely Tuesday evening ~ xo
Good thing you helped nudge her to get her photos out there- they are fabulous!!! Juicy Fruit is the best gum ever!
VERy funny post Tracy, love the way you describe fruit. Great painting of the gum. I remember having it too, but went through so much cos I spat it out s soon as it stopped tasting juicy, hehe :0)
♫Juicy Fruit, it's goin' move ya♫....it used to be the only gum that didn't have artificial sugar...
Great Pic
blessings,
Cindy♥
Your drawing of the pack of gum is so cute. It reminds me of when I was 8 years old because, not only was it my favourite flavour but, I dressed up as a pack of juicy fruit gum for Halloween that year. No joke! So silly.
My mouth is watering just looking at the drawing & I can even smell it - such memories! Though I love its juiciness, it's too sweet for me these days. And thank goodness, no hair or pips or other nastiness! :)
I love your posts and just like you to think outside the typical and come up with chewing gum! Juicy fruit reminds me of being a kid too as it was always nicer than minty gum back then although the idea of it now - gross!! I agree with you on the hairy fruit - I also don't like raspberries because of the pips - not a fan of gettting pips all stuck in my teeth! Nectarines are however a great alternative to peaches - the juicy fruit without the fuzz!
Ahhh, Juicy fruit - I remember it well... Yours is beautiful!
But, I have to admit that I thought this was the perfect opportunity for you to unveil a self-portrait, my juicy friend... No need to travel to the market, you already have everything you need ;)
xo

p.s. I will probably be banished from blogland for saying so, but I don't care for moleskines either!
Great choice for the theme- and even with the new packaging, your painting immediately brings to mind that famous, juicy taste! FUN post!
xx
Stephanie
well, we can always rely on you to think outside of the box! And that's what makes your art stand out - The fact that you make such 'ordinary' things 'extraordinary'! I love it!!!
I also love hairy butt peaches, and I don't even mind pips and seeds. I even eat the skin of Kiwi fruits, lol! :0)
my gosh, you always make me laugh, the hair on the raspberries almost had me spitting out my hazelnut coffee! That gum so totally reminds me of my childhood. I used to beg for "real" gum, not that awful sugarfree stuff. Although I don't chew much gum now, thank god sugarfree gum has highly improved. But now I have a craving for some juicy fruit. Hehehe.
Hugs,
Jenn
Hmmm, I wonder, is there gluten in gum??
Wonderful "juicey" post dear Tracey...always enjoy your take on things and your drawing is WOW!
Exciting about Marit's FEATURING!
Happy September!

When I visit your blog, everyone in the house has to stop what they are doing and listen to me read your posts out loud--they are getting to know you very well!
My husband especially liked 'hairy butt peaches'--
I love your blog! (I'm new here!) Your illustrations are awesome and your writing too...glad to be here :)
Ha Ha! I looked up the same image for Juicy Fruit on Chrome, but then did something different! I love your post as usual, Tracey. Wonderful drawings and wonderful conversation, always so much fun!
Wow, the old juicy fruit sure brings back some memories, didn't know they still made it. Know what you mean about the strawberries, little miss is always begging for them but now she wants something different, had too many. Love your piccy as always, it's soo juicy. Had a look at your friends new blog and is she a stunning photographer, just fabulous.
Von.
i also have fond childhood memories revolving around juicy fruit gum :) thanks for the memories!
Although I was born in the USA, I was reared in Mexico. Therefore, it was a treat when I came to see family in the USA during my childhood to get Juicy Fruit gum. I didn't realize they had changed the packaging, but still like the classic look better. You did an awesome job with both. Blessings!
your ability to bring on uncontrollable laughter is utterly amazing!! I used to like juicyfruit but for some reason I canNOT recall NOW, in my ancient years, I associate it with BEing car-sick...
too bad.
hate when that happens!!!
xoxo
Ah, Juicy Fruit always takes me back. A fabulous choice!! Looking forward to checking out Melissa's blog--what a stunning photo. xx
