Wild and Reckless Cabbagey Kale is not an odd title in my brain
because the prompt for Summer of Colour is Wild and Reckless Sherbet
which has to be one of the best names for an ice cream I have heard in a long time
and the colour is insane though a bit of a challenging prompt
and I don't even want think about what it would do to a kid to eat it
I feel hyperactive just looking at it...
I did consider trying to find some bullied hyacinths
but then figured that would be pretty diabolical of me
given the tulip incident of week one
but luckily for me there were ornamental cabbagey kales for sale
and before you get all
that is so offensive to cabbage to be lumped in with kale
and vice versa
I would like to point out that
one packet called them ornamental cabbages
and the other ornamental kale
and to my untrained eye they looked absolutely identical
both packs had a creamy cabbage/kale with purple tips
and a great purplish one
and for the life of me I can't tell the difference between the packs
so cabbagey kale it is
because kaley cabbage just sounds wrong
and through in a blue background and they get suitable wild and reckless
and due to the fact that it is a sketch done on a Sunday
it can pull double duty as a Sunday Sketch as well
which is just as well
because prior to this being drawn up this morning
I was thinking I was thinking I would need to bribe Phantom
to make a cake using batter in these colours
mind you if she does get in and make one
I will be sure to update it with photos....xx
Time for an update
my lovely daughter Phantom decided to join in the fun
and she applied her not inconsiderable intellect to baking
a wild and reckless cake
Dear Kristin Dudish
Phantom did not let you down
and please note the rather skilful lining of the pan
which as it turned out was her peaking for the whole project...
only thing I can say is that the picture below sums it up perfectly
and it tastes about as good as it looks... xx

Cabbagey Kale it is! LOL Lovely sketch...would make a great card! Green, blue and purple are my favourite colour combo. :)
This is absolutely gorgeous!!!
I laughed out loud at the bullied hyacinths... Not that I condone violence against flowers, foliage, or blooms of any nature ;)
You did a lovely job with this week's colors! (I personally loved the name too, but the thought of eating anything that color scares me a bit... I look forward to seeing if Phantom creates some edible art using those colors!)
xo
Kristin
beautiful representation !! find myself feeling sorry for the flowers,
I just love a shot of kale in a winter pot outdoors!! They last through all the cold weather!!! Your illustration has to be a favorite of mine!! So beautiful....you need to sell blank cards with this lovely watercolor!!
Hugs Giggles
That is the weirdest, wildest ice cream I have ever seen! Love your cabbage kale--whatever they are--beautifully rendered. I have to say, I just LOVE this combination of colors! Awesome! :):)
OOh, nice cabbagy kale, they look delicious, just need a little salt and garlic and we're good to go! Hehehe.
Winter veggies is purrrty. ;o)

what a fun color combination and you did a great job with your painting!
gorgeous - love your take on the color and yes, it makes me want to reach out and grab it!
I want that ice cream too. I'm sure that if I eat some I might cliff dive in my bikini or something!
Lovely cabbage - almost good enough to eat ;)
Cabbage or Kale whichever...I don't like them...but hey...I like yours!
The colours are fantastic. ;D
I hope you had a great Sunday and are ready for another fun packed week! :D
Gorgeous! I have never really liked the ornamental cabbage (Mom loves it) but your painting of it is just beautiful. It looks like big cabbage roses. I don't think I'd eat any sherbet that looked like that, however.
Love the wild sketch ~ colors and all ~ thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
Lovely piece, Tracey, we all seem to be wild and reckless this week! Fits our weather, too! Valerie
Ah! I love your Wild and Reckless ornamental cabbage/kale!! Genius! Great color use... Ad I agree, a kid wold get a bit hyper from this Crazy ice cream! Love it.
Beautiful...love the colors! Your art is amazing and so wonderful! LOVE IT!
great idea to do kale, the colours are perfect for this theme, well done!
wild and reckless cabbage! lol Love how you found the colors in this plant, here I thought it was going to be so difficult, yet you made it look so easy! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)
Ha, I like your commentary on the flavor choice this week. Gorgeous painting! Are the actual plants edible? They look too pretty to eat.

I adore that you have turned cabbage (cabbage or even kale?)into a wild and reckless project! Perfect!
Love your cabbagyy kale, it sounds just right to me! Since i have been away i have missed so many of your posts, i am off to catch up now!
A shame the cake wasn't produced today or I would have been round. I hate cabbage but seeing it is not the eating variety I have to admit I don't hate all cabbages then:)
Wonderful colours! Just looking at them make me want to jump.

What gorgeous colours ... And love your humorous post as always.
Oh my..so beautiful..the color palette is simply fabulous...

cabbage...kale...beautiful! I love this. The colors are terrific:)
cabbagey kale is AWESOME and reminds me of one of those healthy smoothies one is apt to drink at times - at least here LOL - looks awesome too!
This is stunning. I love your work so much. The colours and pen lines...just gorgeous.
This is freaking GREAT!! Come by for a giveaway!
yesterday, selling at the farmer's market, my neighbor grew Kale amongst other things. She told me how her young son one day tasted each kale commenting on it's taste, texture etc. no different from a wine expert. At the end he announced that Kale is now his favorite vegetable. I loved that story!
such a fun take on this color challenge.
I absolutely love the combination of these two colours. Probably my favourite, yet. What a fabulous job, Tracey. :) xx
You can make anything look amazing. Cabbage? Too awesome.
The colors are exquisite!!! I like your line too......gives it movement. Nice job!
I think you might think I was a stalker if we lived any closer I would be popping in to have a look at all your work, I find it fascinating. Or I could be a burglar and pinch it all.

I'm not sure which I like better, the "kaley cabbage" or the cake. Both top my list of lovely examples of this week's colors.
Your drawiing is super as the colours are reflected so well by the subject matter. The cake is superb - looks a bit like plastercine all mixed up!. Oh and I made the "tiny" bow on 2 cocktail sticks stuck into my wooden tool box about 1cm apart (who needs a bow maker??) BJ
Gorgeous cabbagey kale... great drawing... and Phantom's cake is wonderful...
Hugs

Love your painting..i always enjoy your work...and love the cake....so pretty...xxx
For a moment there I thought I'd be reading about some kind of cabbage/kale tea! Can you imagine? Ugh!
I love the painting and I totally admire anyone who can get inspired by a cabbage and turn it in to something rather lovely! :0)
The cabbage and kale flowers are beautiful and I also like all the other beautiful posts. The whole blog is beautiful.
Wonderful bold expressive lines. Happy Painting.
Beautiful drawings!!. Lovely cabbage inspiration and the cake looks delicious too, never mind the color! Hugs.
LOVE your cabbagey kale and the title is awesome too! What a clever way to illustrate the theme!
Kudos to Phantom for joining in on the fun!
xx
Love this! You are such a talented artist! I've never seen cabbage look so pretty!
I love seeing the whole family involved! Your drawing is FAB - loose and colorful and I don't have any issue with cabbagey or kale. However, while I appreciate Phantom's mighty effort in participating and the colors in that cake are extraordinary, I have to say.....blue cake somehow doesn't look very appetizing to me :) I'm sure it was yummy - and I would just eat it with my eyes closed! :)
Yep!!!
you did a beauty!!!
xo! ;)
I always call it ornamental cabbage, but I'll call it whatever you like! Wonderful drawing, perfect for this week's SOC flavour.
Phantom's cake is INCREDIBLE!! She is a superstar, it clearly runs in the family!

Your cabbage/kale is so beautiful! I'm just in love with it. I didn't think these colors could be so gorgeous! And I can't even begin to imagine how your daughter made that cake!
Love the title and your cabbagey kale drawings and the cake! Everything is perfectly perfect in every way.
Audrey loves Phantoms cake, it is all the colours she makes me do the icing on cupcakes, just perfect. The kale is gorgeous, love those colours. The execution and accuracy in that caketin liner would make even my maths teacher hubby proud. Would hate to show you what mine look like. Give me that hyperactive ice cream any day, looks yummy.
Von
You are funny!!!
btw I really love your 'nailed it' button!!!!
The cake looks like a map... well done to your daughter for joining in! Did your eating for Australia son manage to polish it off!
Hyperactive was exactly the word what popped into my head when I first saw the 'wild and reckless' - !
I love your sketch - you've captured the kale/cabbage beautifully :)
Karenx
Love your flowers so much and the colors are awesomely refreshing ...and the cake looks deliciously yummy...your daughter must be an angel....God bless her!
You are so creative .... Leaping from sherbet ( is that really a sherbet? Yikes! ) to a cabbagey kale :)
Love the cake! That's a wild interpretation too :)
Gorgeous work as always and that cake - amazing!
I just love your style and you did not disappoint with wild and reckless!!!
Who knew veggies could be so pretty?! That baby at the end with the Nailed It, sooo funny!!
Perfect - love your stuff! and I wish I'd thought of doing cakes too ...
you certainly captured the colors! Very nice work! The cake idea was great too! Thanks for stopping by!
Wild colours, wild vegetables, madcap cake! Fabulous interpretation of this week's colours.
Love, love those colors!
Gorgeous! it reminds me of cabbage roses! I can see this as a greeting card!
You are so talented Tracey!
xoxo
It is the strangest icecream but the colours are so good together. Your piece is so beautiful and like joanna reminds me of cabbage roses.
