Wild And Reckless Cabbagey Kale... and a cake...

Wild and Reckless Cabbagey Kale is not an odd title in my brain
because the prompt for Summer of Colour is Wild and Reckless Sherbet
which has to be one of the best names for an ice cream I have heard in a long time
and the colour is insane though a bit of a challenging prompt
and I don't even want think about what it would do to a kid to eat it
I feel hyperactive just looking at it...

I did consider trying to find some bullied hyacinths
but then figured that would be pretty diabolical of me
but luckily for me there were ornamental cabbagey kales for sale
and before you get all
that is so offensive to cabbage to be lumped in with kale
and vice versa

I would like to point out that
one packet called them ornamental cabbages
and the other ornamental kale
and to my untrained eye they looked absolutely identical
both packs had a creamy cabbage/kale with purple tips
and a great purplish one
and for the life of me I can't tell the difference between the packs
so cabbagey kale it is
because kaley cabbage just sounds wrong
and through in a blue background and they get suitable wild and reckless

and due to the fact that it is a sketch done on a Sunday
it can pull double duty as a Sunday Sketch as well
which is just as well
because prior to this being drawn up this morning
I was thinking I was thinking I would need to bribe Phantom
to make a cake using batter in these colours
mind you if she does get in and make one
I will be sure to update it with photos....xx

Time for an update
my lovely daughter Phantom decided to join in the fun
and she applied her not inconsiderable intellect to baking
a wild and reckless cake
Phantom did not let you down
and please note the rather skilful lining of the pan
which as it turned out was her peaking for the whole project...

only thing I can say is that the picture below sums it up perfectly
and it tastes about as good as it looks... xx

My last two posts have been....

I laughed out loud at the bullied hyacinths... Not that I condone violence against flowers, foliage, or blooms of any nature ;)

You did a lovely job with this week's colors! (I personally loved the name too, but the thought of eating anything that color scares me a bit... I look forward to seeing if Phantom creates some edible art using those colors!)

Cabbage or Kale whichever...I don't like them...but hey...I like yours!
The colours are fantastic. ;D
I hope you had a great Sunday and are ready for another fun packed week! :D

Gorgeous! I have never really liked the ornamental cabbage (Mom loves it) but your painting of it is just beautiful. It looks like big cabbage roses. I don't think I'd eat any sherbet that looked like that, however.

A shame the cake wasn't produced today or I would have been round. I hate cabbage but seeing it is not the eating variety I have to admit I don't hate all cabbages then:)
Wonderful colours! Just looking at them make me want to jump.

yesterday, selling at the farmer's market, my neighbor grew Kale amongst other things. She told me how her young son one day tasted each kale commenting on it's taste, texture etc. no different from a wine expert. At the end he announced that Kale is now his favorite vegetable. I loved that story!

such a fun take on this color challenge.

I'm not sure which I like better, the "kaley cabbage" or the cake. Both top my list of lovely examples of this week's colors.

Your drawiing is super as the colours are reflected so well by the subject matter. The cake is superb - looks a bit like plastercine all mixed up!. Oh and I made the "tiny" bow on 2 cocktail sticks stuck into my wooden tool box about 1cm apart (who needs a bow maker??) BJ

Love this! You are such a talented artist! I've never seen cabbage look so pretty!

I love seeing the whole family involved! Your drawing is FAB - loose and colorful and I don't have any issue with cabbagey or kale. However, while I appreciate Phantom's mighty effort in participating and the colors in that cake are extraordinary, I have to say.....blue cake somehow doesn't look very appetizing to me :) I'm sure it was yummy - and I would just eat it with my eyes closed! :)

Audrey loves Phantoms cake, it is all the colours she makes me do the icing on cupcakes, just perfect. The kale is gorgeous, love those colours. The execution and accuracy in that caketin liner would make even my maths teacher hubby proud. Would hate to show you what mine look like. Give me that hyperactive ice cream any day, looks yummy.

Hyperactive was exactly the word what popped into my head when I first saw the 'wild and reckless' - !
