By the time I am getting near the end of the three weeks of purgatory
known as Winter Break
I start to need treats to maintain my sanity
and this break, more than any other, I am in desperate need
because it has been wet and grey and mostly awful weather
which has meant that both daughter and dog have been firmly glued to the couch
basically eating their weight in food every two hours
and smelling up the place
so on one of the 5 million zillion squillion trips to the food shop
I also stopped in at one of my favourite haven's, Susan's ,
and picked up a bar of my favourite brand of soap
not the chocolate you would expect I would need as a sanity saver
though perhaps some dark chocolate coated ginger chunks
may have also caught a lift home
But most important was the soap
which is gorgeous and they are all really beautifully perfumed
and I have been walking around sniffing the stuff like a junkie
which is pure bliss given the circumstances...
This soap is the only thing saving me from taking out both dog and daughter
because the smells emanating from our delightful fur baby
due to Phantom sharing almost every sort of food possible
are simply horrifying
and he seems to have discovered using both dog breath and bottom burps
as a weapon for revenge
you see his delightful little face plotting
and he is delivering his smelly messages at every opportunity
So you have been out for the morning and left me here all on my own
try this fart on for size
You want to paint instead of play with me
this is one I have been saving all day
You want to sleep in
let me yawn in your face while standing on your hair so you can't escape
I tell you he has become the embodiment of evil bodily functions!!!!
So the soap has been jammed under my nose at every opportunity
and I am hoping that Mushu realises the futility of trying to continue the torture
in the face of me now having an antidote...
The other antidote is getting in and making these Dream Bars
which are a throwback to the eighties goodness and corny names
and having to make treats for the staffroom on a regular basis
and these never failed to please
Jen over at Artists Playroom asked us to do recipes this week
and though I had started strong and drew up a bit of a border
time disappeared in a fog of dog smells
and the finished product is not quite what I was planning
but let me tell you these are yummo and worth making
and if you need Gluten Free like we do here in our house
I have included the amended amounts in brackets
So
I am off to make Dream Bars and sniff soap and dream about Tuesday morning
when Winter Break will be but a distant memory... xx
What you may have missed...

LOVE your recipe, but then I always love your drawings. Kinda feeling sorry for your poor nose though, seems like you should fumigate that dog, inside and out!!
hugs to you all,
Jenn
Another very funny post Tracey! I pity you and your smelly little pup!
You are using your delightful soap as a Victorian lady would have her tussy mussie!
Critters and Kids, you have got to love em..smells and all. :) Love your drawings..Love the way you did the recipe too. HPPF.
I love your sense of humor Tracey. The soap paintings look great. I can almost get a whiff. Nice post. Have a great weekend. Thanks.
Humm...seems as though you should use that soap on the dog! Love the illustrations and the humor as always. Thanks for the recipe too! Happy PPF! :-)
gross but hilarious!! And the art as always, fantastic! happy PPF
(We have awful weather too, but in the other side of the weather spectrum, too hot and dry)
Oh my gosh, I'm laughing again! Luckily Winter Break is almost over... and doggy can get back to a more regular (and less stinky) diet.
Smart you for finding an antidote in good smelling soap.
Your recipe sounds wonderful.. although I can say I've never eaten mince so that could be an adventure :)
Lovely paintings as always! Happy PPF!
I am sure I am being redundant when I say I love your style! But I DO!!!
Great post, Tracey! Love the artwork...haven't used that soap or tasted those dream bars before but they're on my list now.
NOPE, I can't believe it....dear, sweet Mushu would NEVER do such things, surely?! ;)
I could almost smell the soap - and the rest! Poor you, hope your life will soon smell more sweetly for you again! Great painting, too! Valerie
That is all very funny :D The recipe looks awesome and one I think I will try. I've printed it out anyway :0)
I can almost smell the soap!Nicely done as usual! I don't think I could bear a smelly dog! I admire your patience! Patsy from

Lol! We don't have many dog farts anymore since my first dog died but we have plenty of dog breath that smells like fish which I have no idea where she gets because we don't feed her fish and rolling in I-don't-want-to-know what. That soap would be handy here as well. :)
OH the joys of a dog:-) That soap IS beautiful, I totally can smell it from here too! I think I'm coming over for some dark chocolate coated ginger chucks... and some dream bars... yum!
Love your drawings...so glad you got this soap and that it is NICE and smelly:)
sniff...sniff...Oh Trace...I see what you mean! Poor you :$
Mufftypup is a lady so she doesn't do all those nasty boy body beeps which we're thankful for ^,,^
I have a bar of that soap so can actually smell it! I think your painting is purfect!
I'm also going to use your recipe tomorrow. It looks delicious.
I've just got to finish my entry to APR which I hope to do in the morning. I only gave myself a day to do it in...such a numpty!
But I've had both hubby and son home so feel your pain!
Have a hopefully dry sunny weekend ~ soon be Tuesday ;D
Yeah, it would take some lovely smells to override the dog essence. We've had rain here for days too. The rain was welcome, the smell of mouldering dog and basketball shoes somewhat less so.
Your soap package painting is gorgeous. I am jealous of how you turn the labels and packaging the rest of us ignore into such lovely pieces of art.
Great Post and Sweet Piece!!!
Love your art and maybe even more, your stories!
Keep 'em coming,
xoxo
I need some of that soap. Nothing can clear the room faster than my dog. The bars sound good, and I do need gluten free, but it is way too hot to bake. Is fruit mince the same as mince meat? It always amazes me how you can sketch absolutely anything and it looks beautiful.
Too funny, I remember the doggy dayz. Love it when they dream and start traveling in the dream their legs going 90 mph. Dreary days, even in So. FL can get me down. . . and we don't have many of them. The Recipe with the art work is amazing. I should art up all my recipe cards. Thanks for the blog words. Blessings, Janet PPF
Tracey, you are so funny. I needed a good laugh this morning and you have provided it along with your delightful paintings. I miss my dog, smells and all, but I know where you are coming from! As for the soaps, my favorite scent is a combination of lemon and ginger. I used to be able to find a particular brand at Bed Bath and Beyond, but not they don't carry that scent.
Faye (not back into painting yet)
The dream bars sound just dreamy. The soap seems like a great escape from the worldly smells emitting from your family members. Hoping the air clears at your place :) Happy PPF

Put a tent in the garden and pop fur baby and Phantom in it, they can be as smelly as they like out there, leaving you to sniff and snort clean fruit air inside...problem solved...drawings are gorgeous as always :)
I am laughing so hard at your dog comments! Oh my! So funny! I am struggling a bit these days with summer break, but at least it's beautiful summer and I can shoo the kids outside, or sign them up for camp. Your soap painting is really pretty, by the way.
The recipe looks like a keeper. Now if only I could actually smell that soap. I'd buy it just for the packaging tho.
Darla
Oh my gosh - you had me laughing out loud - you are gifted in the ability to describe smelly dogs - fortunately you're also gifted with the ability to draw and paint something so that it's even prettier than it is in real life. I hope that bar of soap is continuing to smell as good as it looks!
soap can be as good a treat as candy for sure! Love, as usual, the beautiful rendition of soap! the recipe looks fun too,you have great handwriting!
My dad used to give 1/2 oz of whiskey to an evil-breathed cocker spaniel we had growing up - somehow it did the trick!
I don't know about the smelly soap, but those bars sound delicious. I love your art work too. Blessings!
i'm laughing out loud at villainous little mushu! good luck hanging in there until Tuesday! :-)
lthe soaps sound delicious... i love anything citrus scented.
What job so meticulous and perfect! Saludos
Hello Tracey,
I'm so glad you stopped by my blog so that I found yours, too! Love your sense of humor and your artwork - and I adore your header painting! Have a great weekend! I'm following you now, too!

This sounds delish and I think would be more appealing than the blue cake! :) Love all the good recipes I've picked up....though most seem to be sweet things. What a surprise, right?
Love your funny posts. I look forward to them on a daily basis...gotta get my 'Tracey fix'!
Funny story!! I can relate to smelly dogs and kids. It's an underground plot against us I swear! The soap painting is really great. I too love great smelling soaps.
Peg on the nose for Mushiness smells and a big sniff up for lovely soap and recipe.
What a great blog page Tracey
Lynn and the Doodly Birds xx
i love your creative way of avoiding the smells from your puppy! Your sketches are so good, and the post was fun as always!
Thank goodness this wasn't a scratch and sniff post. I think I smell something yucky just reading your post! My dog needs to go into another room just as a precaution!
I just LOVED this post! I Love the way you have made a recipe page and also enjoy so much how you use several photos of the same image to create a visually stimulating post! Fabulous! :0)
Your soap box picture is lovely. You've got a good eye for subjects. Very nice.
Such a lovely draeing! :) and I know that soap do have a wonderful perfume. I've have had this one once.. :)
Dream bars- oh I would love to bake them, thanks for the receipe! :)
sorry.. I meant drawing :))
I love them both! you can sniff the lemon soap and then take a bite of a dream bar - lather rinse and repeat :)
Tracey,
Your writing about winter break made me laugh!
But I can almost smell the fresh, fragrant lemon through your wonderful painting!
♥♥♥
Happy PPF!!

beautiful soap bar, you have a way of making everyday things look so beautiful! We're in a heat wave, strange to think of you on winter break.
Can I borrow your soap bar, hubby had a rugby camp and brought home a stack of muddy, smelly jumpers for me to wash. Still trying to get the stench out of the house!!!! Love the recipe and pictures but you know me, if it ain't in a packet it don't get cooked :) Just two more days to go and they are back at school (yippee, yahoo!!!) Didn't get to play this week, will be back next week.
Von.
Those dream bars sound dreamy. But I won't be turning on my oven until this heat subsides. I see you have the opposite problem.
Love this post and laughing with tears in my eyes as usual. And thanks for including the GF suggestions with your recipe. Can't wait to try it out! I'm still fairly new at the whole GF thing (been weeding it all out of my diet since February) and I'm still discvering things that contain gluten! Like baking powder?! I didn't know about that one!
Also, thanks for your recent encouragement about parenting and the insecurity that can come with it. You are so right--seems like I second-guess myself so much more now that I have two little girls tied up in my identity (and often literally wrapped around my person)! It's good to know that this feeling is "normal."
Blogger is acting up again. I didn't get this post in my reader list. But I caught it now--and it makes me want to smell that bar of soap! Those dream bars sound wicked!! :)
On week one out of three here. Our only problem is Frida that doesn´t grasp the concept of "the kids are NOT getting up at 6.30am" and wimpers till we open the door for her to go straight to the gas fire. *rolleyes at dogs without time notions*
Lovely lemony image.
"smelly messages" LOL too funny...er..I mean, you poor thing. ;) Good thing you had your antidote. Lovely drawing for both the soap and the recipe.
