Teaspoons...

A couple of weeks ago I put up this mug and spoons drawing
as a work in progress

it was a while ago now
and it was buried at the end of a post

but trust me it was there
and lots of you said you liked it how it was
which was really sweet and greatly appreciated
but I had this idea in my head that the cutlery
would be closer to the ones I drew in this Sunday Sketch Post

the thing I liked about this drawing was the textures in the handles
and that it didn't look too static
I always think that cutlery has an energy to it
it makes all that delicious clattery clinky noise in the draw
and when you drop it it always falls in interesting ways
and looks all light and dark and lovely
and of course it delivers to your waiting tastebuds
morsels of wonderful
or disgusting
depending on the relative success of the cooking adventure!!!!

but I have to admit to a crisis in confidence
after so many of you said you liked the spoons
just as they were
and I liked it as it was as well
but this week I put on my big girl pants
and jumped in

and it was so worth it
because I love it now
It is how I saw it in my head
and it looks so much more dynamic and alive to me
love it when that happens

happy Sunday Sketches all...xx

OH my goodness! Only YOU could pull this off so well! The textures in the handles are amazing.

I love your spoons. you were right to continue. SOmetimes it's hard to bite the bullet and keep going when something looks pretty good but doesn't match your head. what if it sucks later?? I love your bold spoons and I loved your other black and white cutlery too. In fact, you inspired me to go trolling the internet for cool cutlery pics. You'd be surprised that there isn't any. Who knew. I don't have cool cutlery, only kinda modern stuff but I'll have to try drawing it.

Oh, did you fix the wonk?? lol. Be bold with a black marker, lol.

I think your work is stunning, I've never seen anyone sketch like you. I think it's the subjects you pick that do it for me. The cutlery sketches should be in everyone's kitchen including mine.
I have a pine wall unit with different mugs, jugs, plates, napkins, cups, saucers and bowls on, they don't match but they are all pink and make a great composition which I have used as a back drop a few times.

So many different styles and I like them all! Fascinating how the work in progress looks totally different than a finished work. I'm a big fan of your work Tracey!

I am with Lynn. You bring the simplest subjects to life and we look at them and think "how did she see that?"
Absolutely love your spoons in the mug. And now I am looking at mine.......

Great job--you were right to go with your own instinct. I did like how the spoons looked in progress, but they definitely have more life and texture now.

It's a good thing you trusted your own direction. I love how you've given those spoons some shine and depth.

For the record, I also like your wonky-based oranges. Oranges are so oddly shaped... The wonky base seems to fit! It's never a mistake... Just character in the painting! :-)

I'm so glad you continued and moved forward on this project. Your spoons are simply amazing and I LOVE LOVE the hint of blue and the texture you're created! :)

The best spoons are the ones that happen in bed with your honey!

I think we have these teaspoons - indeed this whole set. I think it's called King's. It not his, as we didn't steal it. It's ours...

Whatever... lovely spoons, beautifully illustrated.

Now I know what I've been doing wrong, I don't own any artistic big girl panties! lol Going comando evidently isn't very creative! lmao I love the spoons, and the free form design on the handles is amazing, they do have a lot of energy! waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

big girl pants - I need to go get me some of those :)

you're right that adding the detail made it dynamic and alive ... I love the shock of blue shading

Love both the peonies in the tea cup and the more refined botanical study. Your oranges are great too. By the way, I would not have noticed the wonky if you had not pointed it out!

You are amazing, glad you jumped in and added so much detail, and that is such a hard look to achieve so perfectly! Wow, again!

Love the subtle addition of color. You're right, it does look better with just that little glimmer added. Those handles are beautifully rendered. Another winner.
