No Pearl Jam Peony.....

A couple of weeks ago the lovely Pat
over at Artfully Oooglebloops took this wonderful photo
of a peony in a teacup which she included in this blog post
and she very generously invited people to play with it
and I happily took up the challenge

I thought it may help me recover from the Pearl Jam Peony incident
back in February
where I worked on a botanical detailed drawing of a peony
 that almost drove me mad
the result was great
but boy did all those petals drive me to distraction

But I thought enough time had passed
and the trauma had settled
until I started drawing this one up
and it all came rushing back
petals and more petals
details and complicated tones
but I am older and wiser
and so no Pearl Jam was playing
and no trying to perfectly capturing it

this was all about survival
so armed with copious amounts of tea
I jumped in and did a quickish sketch
and it was fun
no angst
no perfection anxiety
just plain fun and colour and tea
Pomegranate Green tea

and my love of Peonies is restored
demons are laid to rest
and I am ready to move onto getting those
Republic of Tea Tins painted up

Happy Tuesday Tea everyone...

My last few blog posts have been about...

I love both versions. But the realistic one must have been painstaking to produce. I'm glad you're past the peony angst. This is delightful!! :):)

I'm definitely not desiring to tackle peonies. You're brave to try.

What a beautiful image Tracey! I like the freedom in your line work and the wonderful looseness and fluidity in your paint work. I just visited Artfully Oooglebloops blog post and as if I don't have enough to do already, it has got me thinking about painting this too :)

I love peonies and had them in my garden in Scotland (well theoretically they should still be there and if not I'll want to know why?)
I adore both works....just pink perfection!
Stay cosy Trace ;D

China teacup and peony...both delicate and lovely. Thank goodness you didn't give up on peonies. Look what you would have missed.

This turned out beautifully! I think it's interesting how approaching things with different styles (and background music?) can have such different results. I love the first peony you did for all its meticulous detail- but I love this one just as much for how loose and carefree it is with those sweet, soft colors of the cup. Thanks for sharing this!

I love the loose and happy peony in a cup - I think there's a place for the perfection of a botanical drawing (yours are always gorgeous) as well as this freer style. So soft and pretty.

I love your peony! And who needs all that detail? Things can get so fussy and overworked can't they? This is just perfect!! :0)

that happened to me with a dahlia once :)

I love your result ... enough detail that our imagination has no trouble filling in the rest ... such pretty colors too!

I knew I would be late getting here today, since I went out of town. But I love the way you overcame the demons and produced this totally gorgeous peony in a cup. What a tribute to Pat's post, too. I see you also made it in Jean's post today, also. You are becoming the all around tea gal! Hope your tea Tuesday was perfect in every way.

Your drawing looks pretty darn detailed to me. I think even if you had your eyes closed, you would still be able to sketch beautifully! :) Have a great day. Tammy
