Baseball Nut Green Tea...

It is entirely possible that karma decided a bit of payback was warranted
because I had been blithely flying through the winter
smug in my tea fuelled immune system
laughing in the face of colds and flus
and generally showing a lack of sympathy
for those struck down by the dreaded lurgy

which, of course, made it inevitable that it would take me down
and take me down it did
we are talking almost man flu proportions here
I spent a few days lying around
having thoughts about buckets and kicking
and cursing the dog for not having opposable thumbs
and therefore not being able to make me tea
and bring me trashy magazines to read
cause nothing makes me feel better
than stars without makeup

it was touch and go for a day or two there
but I have recovered and am feeling relatively human
and while I haven't quite forgiven the dog
for being such a sucky carer
I am happy to be back painting and playing
with the Summer of Colour prompt
which was Baseball Nut
not quite sure how baseball fits with vanilla, black raspberries and cashews
but hey not coming from a baseball country
its not my place to question the mysteries of ice cream flavour names

Luckily for me I had recently received yet another shipment from the Republic of Tea
thank you very little Andrea from Falling Ladies for getting me hooked on this place
and one of the teas I ordered was a Black Raspberry Superfruit Tea
which was in a sort of soft green container
which somehow morphed into a bit of a vanilla colour
which I blame entirely on the cold and flu drugs
which obviously messed with my sense of colour
but it worked out nicely for this week's prompt
and the tea also appears to have restorative powers
so it seems only right that it makes the grade for Baseball Nut
and will from here on be known as Baseball Nut Green Tea...

Can I say a huge thank you to all the people from The Summer of Colour
hosted by Kristin who have been visiting and taking the time to comment
and also say a happy very early Tuesday Tea
to all my friends at Art in Red Wagons...xx

Though I totally and completely feel terrible because you have had the flu...ugh... I am cracking up laughing, out loud, over your wonderful sense of humor. You really do make me laugh whenever you write. Hilarious! And I live in the US and have never heard of Baseball Nut ice cream and have taken long walks pondering what the heck a baseball game has to do with cashews, as well as black raspberry!! Baseball games that I have attended (4) people yell out, "Peanuts! Get your peanuts here!". Hmmm, but I have to admit, that if some guy yelled for me to eat vanilla-black raspberry swirl-cashew ice cream, I would do it in a heartbeat. Yep. I'd even skip dinner, which at a baseball game means a hotdog. ps. I love your tea art! Feel better!

As an American who pays no attention to sports whatsoever, none of that made sense to me--but it is a beautiful drawing of a lovely tea can and I am sorry you were sick and have such a clumsy dog caregiver, but glad you are on the mend. Spoil yourself rotten for a few extra days. ;)

Do you think if I keep looking at artists whose art I admire it will make mine better?

Ok, Mushu loses the dog treats and I'm gonna hide his little dog coat so he feel chilly and hungry. Punishment is meted out straight away for not bringing you tea and sympathy. BAD DOG.

So sorry you're a sickie, hugs from me, just don't cough my way! lol. love ya,
Jenn

Glad you feel better. Lovely painting, as always! Valerie

I do believe it's called baseball nut because it matches the colour (or should I say color) of the ball they use. The nuts.. well... Americans... what can I say?

Hope you feel better chum. My cats make quite good nursemaids - they just cuddle up and keep you warm. We really don't want them with opposable thumbs though... (watch this horror movie for evidence)

(I may have shared this with you before, but frankly, it is worth another watch don't you think?

Oh yes, and the art. ... Beautiful darling!

Mufftypup has asked me to comment on her behalf when she heard Mushu is receiving such bad press....
She feels she must bring to your attention that his major role is to BE THERE for you...literally!...not to actually 'DO' anything! Well, other than to snuggle up to you perhaps for the fever temperature to transfer to him to keep him cosy whilst this chilly snap is hanging around.
Share nice and all that ^..^

Meanwhile I hope you're feeling better now, but by the look of your painting ~ you're fine ;D

Never heard of black raspberries, they look rather like blackberries to me - LOL. Great take on the colours. BJ

I'm saddened to read that you have been taken down by the flu or something similar. I feel your pain. When I'm sick, Bleubeard has no sympathy whatsoever. And tea is no where in sight, except in your lovely paintings. Beautiful choice of tea to match the colors this week.

Happy Summer of Color AND Tea Tuesday!!

I love your arting but I ADORE the way you talk. :OD As a person from a baseball country who has zero interest in sports, I have no idea what these flavors have to do with it either. It should be peanuts and cracker jacks and beer and hot dogs. But I am not in the Mystery Science Ice Cream Naming Guild, so what do I know.

I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling too well, but it sure made for good reading--thanks for putting a smile on my face...and your art--awesome, awesome!

Could you even begin to imagine what life would be like if dogs HAD opposable thumbs? Not only your tea and magazines delivered to you when you're feeling under the weather (hope you're feeling better soon, by the way)...but - perhaps - they could even make dinner once in a while or make a bed.

Enjoyed the delightful images of black raspberries. There are tons of these types of raspberries growing here (the wild version - not cultivated ones) which we make into jam each summer. Never thought about doing tea.

I'm glad to hear you're on the mend and very relieved to see that suffering from the female version of man flu (which is obviously worse but you just didn't go on about it the way they would've!) didn't cause you to lost your rapier like wit! Dogs may not be very good at bringing you tea but if he's anything like mine he was probably very good at curling up on your feet/lap and being a little furry hot water bottle with sad and empathetic eyes!
I love that you managed to tie your new tie in with this week's ice cream colours - beautiful illustration as always!

Well first of all, I love your painting! And I love the sound of that particular flavour - Maybe after the mint incident it might be the one to restore my faith in the fruit tea! Not that I have seen it over here but I must be able to get similar!
Sorry to hear you've been poorly - Sounds like a Hot Toddy is what you really needed! (whiskey, honey and lemon) My Mother-in-Law swears by it! :0)

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Knock on wood, I can't remember the last time I actually had a cold or the flu. Hubby has been hacking away over here for the past couple of weeks. Keeps going to the doctor to get all sorts of fixes for his scratchy throat. I made him eat manuka honey. And a friend gave him a special spicy tea from Sri Lanka to drink. I saw the baseball nut prompts on some other blogs. I don't quite get that ice cream name/combination either. Sounds good, though. And your blackberry drawings are incredible! Take care! Tammy

I have 3 dogs and all of them together aren't much better than your one dog when I'm not feeling well. They are cute though!
Love your tea art! If I keep looking at art like this I may find the nerve to start trying my hand at it.

I'm glad you're feeling better!
You've captured blackberries beautifully - we pick them from hedgerows in the country at the end of summer - blackberry jam, blackberry pie, blackberry pancakes - and I swear that all those blackberries get us through the bare beginnings of cold and flu season!!

Terrie Purkey said...

Glad the worst of the flu has passed. That's NEVER fun... and to not want to draw or create - blasphemy! But we've all been there.

I've never heard of this kind of ice cream either and missed the challenge cuz we were gone, but all the entries I've seen are great and yours is special. Even though I don't really drink tea, you always make it sound so yummy and the names are so mouth watering, I might just have to try again....
