The theme for the Monthly Painters Challenge for March
was 12 brush strokes
which immediately got me thinking of my favourite brushes

Other members of the group have done paintings using just 12 brush strokes
but of course I didn't think of that
and maybe I am influenced by
the fact that I have been drawing some of my supplies for Sunday Sketches
but I couldn't get past the idea of drawing and painting my brush buddies
I know exactly what stroke each one will make
which ones like watercolour, and which prefer acrylic
and I know all their strengths and weaknesses
They are just like old friends really...
These two are two of my oldest friends
left over from my days at University
they are both getting a bit rough around the edges
and they seem to both have permanent bad hair days
but I know exactly where each stray hair is
and can work around them
they have stood by me
despite the fact that I have abused them horribly
and left them in the water jar for way too long
let paint dry on them
I have dragged them from place to place
and have trimmed them
without regard for fashion or how they will look
too many times to count
and yet somehow they keep coming back for more
These three are my dependable friends
they are used all the time, and despite the fact that the black one
has a weird stray hair that sticks out at a right angle
and the fat one has peeling paint on the handle
they are my go to brushes
they never let me down
they are a bit boring
but appreciated none the less
These four are the cheeky buggers
they provide all the fun stuff
and mean I can do all the loose line work that I love
They range from very very cheap
to gloriously expensive
but they are just fun
they mean I can draw with a brush
and I love that
I am now off to turn this into a pendant
I have been having a great time lately turning my Sunday Sketches
into pendants
and this way I can have my brush buddies
with me where ever I go...xx

I love the jewelry with the arty art pieces embedded within! Such a statement!
aaawww look at all your beloved friends. All of my brushes are boringly new as I've only been painting for two years (after 25 year hiatus after high school). I hope my friends, i mean brushes end up looking that loved.
Speaking of love, that last necklace is DA BOMB, I'm guessing that some budding artist is gonna snap that up right quick when you put it in the shop!
That must be your posse :)
I have brushes in varying degrees of stiffness from glue - but I can't bear to toss them - they still have jobs to do
Great portrait! Love the pendants too - especially the bottom one!

I love these! What a great idea. So, did you paint the stroke or the brush first??!!
Your handles look very clean! Mine are multicoloured. My poor brushes take such abuse...

FOUND YOU! After our last chat ages ago about zombie punk Barnie's I promptly emptied my emails and thus forgot your blog name. It was only today (yes, head of mush!) that I remembered you commented on one of my rare WOYWW's and maybe I could find your blog that way! Duh!
Anyway. I am still in the process of getting to know my brushes but I love this.

Hello Tracey, your brushes look so real, at first I thought they were photos! Such a touching little piece with the story of all your brushes, love this, you are such a creative soul! Thanks for you lovely comment, so happy you liked her. xx
You are one clever lady!!! The pendants are a fabulous idea and look fantastic! I really enjoyed meeting your brush friends. Your realistic renditions and stories made me feel well acquainted. THANKS!
Great job on the brushes and love those pendants!!!
wow.. great job. I had to look twice to see if they were painted or real. I have a hard time finding brushes I like in our small town. I have sent for some but I like to handle them first and see how they feel in my hand.
I'm inspired by your brush drawings! Truly FAB! I've missed the last few posts of yours so caught up on your happenings the last few days; busy stuff. Cute drawing of Mr Tea for Sinus and I'm off to check out the Mess project....doesn't that suit most of us?
Absolutely fantastic. You have my like over on Facebook. Fantab interpetation of the challenge. Best of luck!
