So this painting being finished is actually a miracle...
now I know it may not look like it,
but believe me this is right up there
with all sorts of family miracles
like the daughter unpacking the dishwasher
without a reminder
Sinus Man not snoring
or me smiling and speaking coherently at 5am....
My day started nice and early,
despite it being the last week of holidays and by rights
this should mean lazy sleep ins,
and even given that I was actually relatively cheery...
made my way down to the kitchen
and was waylaid by the adorable sight of Mushu spreadeagled on the lounge
just waiting for his tummy to be rubbed...
now maybe I was moving in stealth mode and gave him a fright
or maybe he was just being a dog
but no sooner had I placed my hand on his adorable little tummy
when he did what may be the world's biggest
most snot filled sneeze ever...
now I am no stranger to dog snot,
but this one came with a not so wonderful doggy exclamation point
from his butt...
So is that a dog snart, or a snuffy, or what exactly would be the term????
How do you combine a dog sneeze with a fluffy
or fart
depending on your family terminology in these things....
because let me tell you this needs its own term to describe the eye watering
cringe inducing disgustingness of it...
I do know that it is actually one of the greatest grump inducing ways to start your day
of course not helped by uproarious laughter from the daughter figure
she is truly starting to get on my nerves
school can't come quick enough...
as punishment for her distinct lack of appropriate sympathy
I have nabbed the necklace that Lori Moon sent me as a present recently
back from the ungrateful little wench
and it is now residing in the studio where I can enjoy it....
Heading into the studio after that to tackle butterflies was quite a stretch
Inspiration Avenue have set that as the theme this week
and it took quite a bit of muttering and mumbling to get my head in a space
that would do justice to the delicate beauty of those winged creatures...
of course it did get me wondering what a butterfly snuffy would be like
maybe Rose Petals
or maybe it is actually pretty nasty...
maybe it is one of the great secrets of the animal world and there are
moths and critters sitting in an insect bar someone talking
about the whopper that Monach dropped the other day...
either way I abandoned pretty and went a bit earthier
I read The John Fowles book The Collector
when we were up at the beach
and it was about a pretty freaky
butterfly collector
so it seemed appropriate to the tone of the day
and so Inspiration Avenue
are lucky enough to get to share the miracle with me
as much as I would have liked to share the snart with you all
I am just too nice to do that...
I am also sharing my palette with Tracey Grgic Potter over at Paint and Palette
and hope that many of you will do the same
and check out all these wonderful links
by people who probably didn't start their day the same way I did....

Love your butterflies, not so much the "fluff".
Stay inspired!
Snart! I vote for snart!
These butterflies were just startlingly impressive when I opened your post! I am drooling over them. Love the rich colors. Just gorgeous. :):)
ooooh, the butterflies are gorgeous! loved seeing your palette too, thanks for sharing it, great to have you joining in the party again! Lets catch up soon for a cuppa - I have a beautiful Klimt tea set to Christen. xx
We have to catch up many times because I have to christen my new Donna Hay plates.... have been saving them especially.... great excuse for many many cups of tea!!!! can't wait to catch up Tracey xxx
I love your use of Butterflies and Tea. . . so meaningful. Blessings, Janet PPF
So beautiful! I love the butterflies and the wonderful use of color!
I love your butterflies. Love the idea of the tea too. Very nicely done. Have a great weekend.
just beautiful butterflies - I re-read The Collector recently and it inspired me for the challenge theme : to see lots of beautiful butterflies fluttering by freely :D
Oh, I love butterflies, and these are just gorgeous! Love the cheerful bright colours! And what a start into the day :). That "Paint and Palette" sounds really cool! I might try and join too, I just love taking pictures of my palette and paints, and seeing those of others. Have a great day! HPP!
Very nice finished product, but the outline design loos great as well
This is an interesting post - on the one side we have the gentle beauty of the butterfly... followed by farting dogs! Well, you had me smiling!!
Lovely butterflies, interesting use of mixed media.<3
Your painting is beautiful. Love the colours. And - deep breaths - school holidays don't last forever, although sometimes it seems like they do!
Beautiful work! Valerie
Miracle or not, the butterflies are beautifully vibrant! Patsy from
HeARTworks
great painting! i like the layers and the loose lines of this piece.
happy PPF and thanks for sharing,
hugs, peggy aplSEEDS
Good GRAVY! My stepping in cat barf, barefoot, this morning doesn't seem so bad. ;)
I decided to stick my nose into a book and forget about the rest of the world. Plus I'm trying to catch up to T. Bone. He's on the 4th book of the Percy Jackson series. He's none to happy that I'm already 1/2 way through book three. It's easy peasy reading - what can I say? It's also just the thing to take one's mind off of starting the day on such a gross note.
The butterflies came out beauteous my dear!!
Beautiful painting Tracey.
Love these butterflies - I don't think they reflect the start of your morning at all :) The little touch of collage is a great idea. They are SO cool!
Meh, I just left a comment and Google ate it! I wonder if Google flarts?
I LOVE your painting and as always your post made me laugh OUT LOUD- right after taking a sip of my coffee! My keyboard is just not safe with you around!
I need to look around for that book, it sounds interesting....
xo

Ha ha ha! Now you have me thinking about butterfly farts! I used to tell my son that every time a girl farts a fairy gets it's wings.
I love this painting. It takes a truly gifted artist to overcome bratty kids and dog snarts to paint something like this.
Oh dear, I nearly snorted tea out of my nose laughing. Your painting is wonderful, I like seeing the progression. I hope the rest of your day went less snarty/snuffy. :)
I love it Tracey...what a wonderfully entertaining post. xx
Although I must have spent 5 or 6 minutes at your blog alone, it was SO worth it. I have laughter tears running down my face as I write this. Oh, and the butterfly paintings are gorgeous, by the way.
Faye
I vote SNUFFY! Hahahaaa.
Your Butterfly work is gorgeous.
Love how you reclaimed the necklace for your own trophy of enjoyment.
Happy PPF!

I'm STILL laughing. What a response you got to this post, too. Glad to see you back at IA because I love those butterflies and the key.
LOL the infamous Snart, with 4 doggies I am not unfamiliar! Great post, I'll be chuckling all day. The butterflies turned out just delicious! ~Happy Paint Party Friday! #56 Robin Panzer Art Studio 33
Lovely creation ~ love the composition, the colors and style~ namaste, carol, (Share the Creative Journey) Happy PPF ^_^
I've got to go with Snart too. Gosh what a great way to start the day, not. Love the butterflies!
I adore your blog header!
you have a light touch style and so fresh!
I enjoyed my visit!!
Your butterflies are so beautiful!
I LOVE your butterfly painting!! It's gorgeous. Such great colors.
Such a funny post, too. Though, I am sorry your day started so badly. At least you were able to persevere! Doggies can be so gross, can't they? Haha!
Love the butterflies and the story! As a dog owner and lover I get it :)
Your butterflies are great! I've tried butterflies some and found them challenging. Going bold in shape and color was a good choice.
I can't say I share the same experience as Cody rarely sneezes or farts. You certainly do seem to find yourself in Mushu's firing line a lot. Too funny! lol
I LOVE your butterfly painting! Great composition and colour!
Have a great weekend,
Serena x
Gorgeous, vibrant butterflies! Along with a good chuckle after reading your post!
I don't know why but I feel like I know this painting already! Love it, the vivid colours are wonderful!!
Snuffy actually sounds like something quite cute and cuddly! Dog farts are truly foul-my two lie up beside or on me on the sofa and every so often a hideous odour will waft in my direction while they sleep on, oblivious!
Anyway, i love these butterflies, such beautiful creatures and funny enough on the top i was wearing today. You illustrative style always blows me away.
Wow! Butterflies look amazing! :)
my sympathies go to you.
you write a fun post that has made me smile.
and
your butterflies are gorgeous.
I laughed out loud - not once but twice - nice to see that you got the necklace back. How wonder long it will be until it disappears again. :)
Yep,
Keep totally bumping into each other, lol. Beautifully done. Too bad it's not smaller, I can see that as a part of the Holocaust museum butterfly project. I love it. :o)
Best,
Jenn at www.justaddwatersilly.com, hopping from paint party friday
Hope we see you over at Paint and Palette soon... I would love to have a sticky beak at your palette...xx
Just two more sleeps!!!!! Summer holidays are great but start to feel a bit long at the end of 8 weeks... don't envy her heading back while it is still so hot though...xx
Cat barf ..... that is quite a start... luckily this morning was snuffy free.... not even a sneeze!!! looking up on this side of the world...xx
I am more in favour of snuffy too Sheri... more fitting for a little cute bundle of fur.... though I think the episode probably warranted a snart!!! Lost the necklace again already!!!!
Maybe Mushu needs to spend some time with Cody to learn some good manners.... today has been joyously free of all doggy bodily functions though so maybe he is feeling bad after yesterday... hope you can stay cool today...xx
Lost it again already... came in this morning after going to get some groceries and it was gone again... roll on next week when she is back at school and in uniform!!!
i love your work! you have a beautiful and unique style!! happy PPF!
Butterfly ooze is, well, unattractive whether is a sneeze for a wet fart thing. Every year when I taught 2nd grade we hatched a bunch of butterflies. The leftover juices from when the caterpillar turns into a butterfly are red, runny, and gross. Probably didn't want to know that did you? Your butterflies are fab! Love the way you used the layers underneath.
Haha, well despite the snart, the butterflies turned out beautiful.
Catherine Denton
That makes me feel better about casting aspersions upon butterflies... mind you it also makes me glad I was an art teacher and not a second grade teacher... I will never complain about palettes left in the sink again...xx
Oh, these butterflies are just gorgeous...love the black with the vivid colors, and the neutral background is perfect! You made me laugh with the snuffy snart ~ I'm glad my cats are more well-behaved lol!
The colors of the butterflies are so beautiful! Glad my dog has never done what yours did, what a way to start a day ;-)
Dear Tracey, you are such a comedian!! I just love to read your posts and see the bright side of the mundane and annoying that you so wittily impart. The butterflies are delightful, like theyre about to take off into the sunset. Love also to hear about your daughter. I go back to school next week. Only year 11's this time.Last year too. I was sitting alone with laptop, hubs in bed with sore back(Im going away tomoro, and he ALWAYS gets sick beforehand) so thanks you for the wonderful bag of chuckles.
just beautiful...oh and Yuk..dog but snot...xxx
I've just woken my dog by laughing so much at your story. You know, he is only repaying your kindnesses of good food and great company, every little/big gesture comes back at you via dog karma. Mine looks at her rear in shock and then walks away, her diva-ness is so distressed by such pungent moments. No more pepperoni for madame, I say it everytime, but it's hard to say no to the drool river.
P.S. Beautiful butterflies, the green one really stands out. I hope that wasn't inspired by the sneeze gift.
Snuffy!!
Amazing butterflies!!
Thank you very much for not sharing the snart! :) I'm pretty sure my whole family would've been falling over themselves laughing if that had happened to me-
These butterflies are pure gorgeousness and not at all snart-like. I think that no one would ever guess that you had experienced that before creating them. (Also, thank you for making me giggle so much, that takes skills at 2:11 in the morning!)
HAHAHAHA! Love your snart story!
Your butterflies are SO amazing! I especially like the squiggly ink lines. Been itching to try out some mixed media collage--your work is inspiring!
OMG! Toooo funny! Your butterflies are wonderful! I can hear them Snarting and lucky me I don't smell a thing, colds can be a blessing sometimes, lol!
A wonderful composition..just adore butterflies
xx

The snart story is hilarious!!! How did you get your daughter to unpack the dishwasher without a reminder? That still has to happen in this house... waiting for the miracle.
Your butterflies are gorgeous - I'm glad you were able to complete them.
absolutely gorgeous!!! What a perfect amount of collage elements underneath!
oh Tracey you made me laugh out loud with that one! brilliant. (and so are the butterflies!!) xx
Your butterflies are lovely!

I like it! It's pretty and dramatic too. I'm glad you got it done despite dog mishaps and other obstacles.
LOL - what a way to start the day! But your beautiful butterflies bring joy! (At least to me!!)
Hi! I'm so happy you visited me (and left a very nice comment too!) for PPF, because I followed you here, and now I have a new favorite blog to add to my list!! Not only are you darn talented, but you are hilarious too!! I love your art. This butterfly painting is gorgeous. I'll be back for more!

OOOHHH I get your text about the Donna Hay Plates now :) I've only just saw this. For some reason blogger does not automatically send an email for replies on blog comments.
I love this!!! I love butterflies and looking at your painting just made my day a little brighter. :-) I really love your style of painting! :-) I wish I could paint so well just like you!
